Gong Baoyue heard that Gong Dahai had been arrested the next afternoon. She hurriedly took the money and ran to Gong Dahai's home.
"Yue! Are you here to pick up your mother?" Zhao Da'e asked with a smile when she saw Gong Baoyue.
Gong Baoyue looked at the haggard and disheveled Zhao Da'e in front of her. There were bruises on her face, and it was obvious that she had been beaten!
Gong Baoyue's eyes were slightly moist with heartache. She sniffed. She didn't want to cry for her anymore. She had already shed all her tears over the years.

She was thinking about reporting Gong Dahai, but she didn't have time to act.
Gong Baoyue and Jiang Si were newly married and were in great love, but she didn't pay any attention to them.
Unexpectedly, Gong Dahai was arrested just one day later.
"It was my mother who did it!" Zhao Da'e said, then raised her head and looked at Gong Baoyue with a smile.
Gong Baoyue looked at Zhao Da'e blankly, as if she didn't know her. She didn't know why she suddenly changed. Over the years, she had regarded Gong Dahai's family as her heaven.
"Gong Dahai, Gong Baozhu, and Gong Jianbang, they don't treat my mother as a human being! They beat her to death!" Zhao Da'e said, and began to cry.
She cried so hard, her heart was broken.
Gong Baoyue just sat there watching Zhao Da'e cry. While Zhao Da'e was crying, Gong Baoyue lifted up her clothes and looked at her body and arms. There was not a single piece of good flesh on her.
Gong Baoyue watched, and unknowingly, her eyes were blurred with tears.
No matter how foolish her mother was, she never abused her. She was just weak and gave in, and made herself give in as well, always obeying the Gong family, even though the demands made by that family were unreasonable and excessive.
This made her feel very wronged, but, after all, she was still her mother who had endured humiliation and raised her since she was a child. How could she really not feel sorry for her?
In that era, if a girl gave birth to a child and the man disappeared, the child would either be lost or given away. Zhao Da'e still had some conscience and gave birth to the child and raised him to adulthood despite the secular gaze.
"Mom, why?" Gong Baoyue murmured.

Gong Baoyue stared at the door for a while, shook her head helplessly, and had to go back first.
After returning home, Gong Baoyue took out the money in her pocket, put it in the bottom of her suitcase and locked it.
Not ten minutes after Gong Baoyue left, Gong Baozhu came back with her brother. When the brother and sister returned home, they looked at the charred house and felt inexplicably irritated. They started to criticize Zhao Da'e.
Zhao Da'e looked at Gong Baozhu with a sneer. Without saying a word, she picked up a feather duster from the table and hit Gong Baozhu hard just like Gong Baozhu had hit her.
"Ah! You bitch! How dare you hit me! You will die a horrible death!" Gong Baozhu's eyes were filled with tears from the pain.
"I'd like to see who is going to have a miserable death! Since your own mother doesn't care about you and lets a little girl like you be sarcastic and spewing dirt every day, then I, your stepmother, will bear the bad reputation and educate you myself!" Zhao Da'e said as she beat him, as if returning all the anger she had suffered over the years. The more she beat him, the more adept she became, and the harder she beat him, the stronger he became.
Gong Baozhu was beaten so hard that she cried for her parents and ran around the room in circles. Zhao Da'e chased her and beat her.
This frightened Gong Jianbang so much that his face turned pale. He stood there blankly, staring. What happened today? Is this woman crazy?
