New tree

New tree

After moving to the new residence, it took the family a long time to adapt to the new life, which even delayed Bai Shunan's elementary school enrollment. By the time they noticed, Bai Shunan was already seven years old, and he started school a year late.

The mother accidentally got a grape seedling and was very happy. She even bought a flower pot and planted it, taking care of it every day. She valued the grape seedling so much that she couldn't bear to see others say that it would not survive. Later, when she saw the grape seedling grow new buds, she was even more happy. When she picked up Bai Shunan from school, she bought him a marshmallow.

The marshmallows were fluffy and white when he first got them, but Bai Shunan ate them slowly. He sat on the back of the bicycle, and the marshmallows were blown by the wind, becoming smaller and stickier. By the end of the meal, his face was covered with marshmallows.

Bai Shunan had only been in school for a few days when the teacher called his mother for a talk because of Shunan's silence. The mother could only smile and respond to the teacher's words which sounded like a scolding and also like an education. After this one-sided conversation of nearly half an hour ended, the mother took Bai Shunan's little hand and walked out.

Bai Shunan hung his head low, a sense of shame welling up inside him that he didn't understand at the time. Then he heard his mother say, "Shunan, look, what a beautiful sunset."

Bai Shunan looked up and saw his mother pointing at the sky. He suddenly realized that his mother was still very young. He remembered some words from his father and brother, and he found that they were all wrong. His mother was younger than he thought, younger than her in his brother's eyes, and even younger than her father's eyes. The sky was in front and behind her.

Little Shunan thought that his mother was simply dazzlingly beautiful.

"Wow, Shunan, I can't believe it," the mother said, holding Shunan's hand and gently shaking it. Her face was gentle yet slightly sad, as if she had returned to her usual role. "I actually stood by you all this time..."

A strong wind blew.

Bai Shunan rubbed his eyes, which were covered with dust, and heard his mother's voice on the wind - "It's okay with you."

"Maybe next year, we'll be able to eat grapes from the vines." Mother spoke of her grape seedlings again. She had always had great faith in them, and this faith had almost become the nourishment of her life, striving to fill every aspect of her existence. She added, "The vines are growing so well, with so many new leaves!"

Bai Shunan started to feel greedy after hearing this and sighed, "I really want to eat it soon."

"Yeah, yeah, I want to try it too," my mother said with a hint of pride in her tone. "It must be delicious."

Unexpectedly, less than two years later, Shunan became so lively that they couldn't believe he had ever been so withdrawn.

A year later, the grape vines produced fruits that were slightly sour but tasted good. They were not big but very plump.

The mother was not happy for two days before she started to get annoyed because there were always birds coming to eat her grapes. She smiled and complained.

Shunan ate the washed grapes and listened to what his mother said. He thought that his mother must have praised the birds in her heart, praising them for having such good taste and knowing that her grapes were delicious.

"You guys are acting so badly before we even start filming. I can't even imagine how pissed I'll be when we actually start filming your scenes next week..."

Li Suiwen, who plays the second female lead He Qiao, walked out of the dressing room. She had just changed back into her casual clothes and was about to go to the dance studio to practice dancing. She looked away casually with a hint of shallow disdain in her eyes.

Li Suiwen is tall and slender, yet resilient and beautiful. She has a charming appearance, but her intellectual temperament is even more outstanding. What makes her even more charming is the subtle desire for control that lingers in her eyes, in her glances, smiles, and every move.

She had only taken a few steps when she was attracted by Li Xuanyue's criticism. Li Suiwen said she had to go and see this lively scene.

Li Suiwen stopped and turned around. The person in front of her blocked her view. She took a few steps briskly, but still couldn't see who was being scolded. Seeing hopelessness, Li Suiwen lost interest and was about to look away when Bai Shunan stood up.

Upon seeing this, Li Suiwen froze in place. The vague impression in her memory suddenly came to life. The familiar face, still childish but with a bit more maturity, still attracted her as much as it did back then. In her eyes, the fragile figure was right there, as if the past ten years had just passed by him.

Li Suiwen was watching so intently that she didn't even notice Lu Jinfeng passing by her. Her eyes were fixed on Bai Shunan who was about to pack up his things. She took half a step forward in a daze.

At this time, Bai Shunan looked over to find the owner of that burning gaze.

The two looked at each other, and Li Suiwen came back to her senses. She smiled naturally and walked towards Bai Shunan, greeting him as she did back then, "Hi, Shunan."

Bai Shunan also recognized Li Suiwen at a glance. He had filmed a movie with him many years ago. He smiled politely and said, "You are here too."

"Yeah, it's been a long time." Li Suiwen walked over to Bai Shunan. She looked straight into his eyes and noticed that he looked away awkwardly, still resisting eye contact like he did back then. She withdrew her gaze and stared at his long, thick eyelashes, which trembled. The smile on Li Suiwen's face grew deeper. Every time she saw him, she always wanted to tease him, "You are the new 'Qi Ci'."

"Maybe."

"What a shame! We don't have any scenes together this time," Li Suiwen said with a meaningful smile. "I was hoping to have another scene with you... Are you leaving?"

Bai Shunan said "hmm" softly. He was not good at reminiscing with others.

Li Suiwen easily broke Bai Shunan's heavy sense of boundaries, causing him to show a bit of timidity that was both uncomfortable and acceptable.

"I'm leaving too," Li Suiwen decided to cancel her original plan for this unexpected encounter. "How about we go have dinner together?"

"No, I have something else to do."

"Oh, that's a shame."

They walked along the wall toward the door.

"Come to think of it," Li Suiwen recalled more things. She was always the one to find topics with Bai Shunan, and she had gotten used to it. "Lu Jinfeng was also in the crew. I still remember you liked him when we were filming. Do you still like him now?"

Bai Shunan's expression calmed down, "It's okay now."

"Really? When I saw how much you liked him, I thought you would love him forever."

Bai Shunan was silent for a while. He was not used to people talking about the past. He looked forward and saw the dusk outside the door. On the other side of the wall, Lu Jinfeng's hand, which was sliding his phone, stopped.

Soon, Bai Shunan's voice came over - "I thought so too."
