Chapter 113
The next morning
The autumn rain fell intermittently throughout the night.
Whether it was the white noise that lulled her to sleep or the dog's warm embrace that made her feel so secure, Lin Jin slept peacefully without any dreams that night.
As dawn broke, she woke up with a slight twitch in her brow. The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Cheng Sangluo, her head tilted to the side, fast asleep on her shoulder.
Lin Jin comfortably squinted her eyes, deftly turned over, and naturally put her arm around the puppy's shoulder.
A warm smile played on her lips as she gazed lovingly at the person before her.
This sharply defined face never gets old. Even after being worn down by life, it hasn't changed at all. It's just like when I first saw it many years ago. Its eyes hold a sharp nebula, yet it doesn't lose its pure innocence and kindness.
Lin Jin was so engrossed in watching that she couldn't help but reach out her hand.
She ran her fingertips over the puppy's relaxed eyebrows, carefully outlining and memorizing the contours in her heart.
She smiled more and more contentedly, and couldn't help but sigh to herself: If only time could freeze at this moment, or even just slow down, so that the separation wouldn't be too close.
Cheng Sangluo felt an itch on her brow while still asleep. She smacked her lips, raised her arm to cover Lin Jin's hand, and then groggily tucked it into her heart, "Mmm...wife, stop it..."
Actually, when the couple cuddled and slept together, she usually woke up first. But yesterday's intimate moments were different from the past. Almost every time, the two of them reached the peak at the same time, so the one who worked so hard also experienced exhaustion.
Lin Jin's hand was being held tightly by the puppy, and she couldn't pull it away for a while. With her other hand, she brushed a strand of her hair against the puppy's nose and shushed it, "Little sleepyhead, wake up! If you don't get up, I'm going to tickle you!"
Cheng Sangluo kept her eyes tightly closed, scratching her itchy nose, and couldn't help but laugh even in her sleepy state.
She laughed and rolled over, trapping her mischievous lover beneath her. She lowered her head and kissed his fragrant neck repeatedly, complaining, "You could have just slept a little longer, but you had to wake me up!"
"It tickles! Get off me! Hahaha..." Lin Jin was amused and laughed out loud, but she couldn't resist the guy who was using brute force on her, so she had to beg for mercy: "Okay, okay, I won't bother you anymore, please stop bullying me!"
Cheng Sangluo sat up straight at the sound, glanced at his wife who was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe, and quickly threw off the covers and jumped out of bed.
Without giving a reason, she simply scooped the person who was sinking into the soft bed up, eliciting a joyful gasp.
"What are you doing?" Lin Jin, held in the dog's arms and suspended in the air, instinctively pounded on its strong back. "Put me down right now!"
“I’m taking Miss Limpy to wash up, so she doesn’t develop the bad habit of sleeping in.” Cheng Sangluo tightened her arms and explained as she walked towards the bathroom, then arranged today’s schedule: “You promised me you would go to Dr. Chi’s for a follow-up appointment after you came back, so you have to give me some time today.”
Lin Jin pinched the puppy's firm lower back. "Silly boy, that was my original plan too. Didn't you promise me you'd come with me to look at the new developments?"
Upon entering the bathroom, Cheng Sangluo habitually helped her lover sit comfortably on the washbasin.
She placed her hands on the counter and first gave her wife a ceremonial kiss on the ear before busying herself with squeezing toothpaste.
The young couple always liked to face each other while rinsing their mouths, as if they would be at a disadvantage if they didn't look at each other for even a moment.
Such a scene adds a touch of everyday warmth to an otherwise ordinary autumn morning.
Cheng Sangluo doesn't brush her teeth properly, always wanting to get a good morning kiss as soon as possible. At this time, Lin Jin will scold her severely, and in the end, it becomes a countdown.
A thin mist filled the bathroom, mixed with the refreshing scent of mint. The two smiled at each other, their mouths full of foam, and rinsed their mouths together with the sound of running water from the faucet.
After finally putting down his toothbrush, the puppy pouted his clean lips and said sweetly, "Wife, kiss~"
"No kiss yet, I haven't washed my face." Lin Jin said proudly, wanting to save her first kiss of the day for after washing up, thus keeping the puppy in suspense.
"Okay, okay, I still need to wash my face." Cheng Sangluo didn't act up and obediently rubbed the towel, chatting about random things along the way, "Um... what are you planning to do about... my brother and the others..."
Lin Jin paused, holding the towel in both hands, and stared at the puppy suspiciously. "Even at a time like this, you're still feeling sorry for them?"
"There's no heartache involved. I just don't want you to get into trouble because of me. I've been getting close to Officer Ji lately, so we'd better keep to ourselves."
When the conversation suddenly turned to Ji Nanxing, the topic naturally inevitably turned to Xu Songheng.
After a brief moment of contemplation, Lin Jin feigned a teasing tone, "Speaking of which, hasn't Xu Songheng been found yet? This doesn't seem like the way that expressionless guy usually does things."
Cheng Sangluo chuckled: "Ha...why did you give Captain Ji such a nickname?"
"I've known her for quite a while, and every time we meet, she has a deadpan expression and deadpan eyes. Calling her expressionless is an understatement." Lin Jin's words were sharp and venomous, and she was quite sophisticated when she cursed. Then she got back to the point: "It seems like you ran into her. There's been no progress on the case, and it made us spend a whole day apart for nothing. You're both such capable people, yet you're stuck with a missing person."
"Hey, why are you dragging me into this?" Cheng Sangluo said indignantly, leaning against his wife and recounting their conversation in Ji Nanxing's office that day.
Finally, she put her arm around Lin Jin's shoulder and whispered, "If Captain Ji finds you, please do me a favor and cooperate with the investigation. After all, we are both involved in the case, so I'll help you as much as I can."
"I didn't realize you were so good at doing favors." Lin Jin raised an eyebrow mockingly. She wanted to say something sarcastic to Cheng Sangluo, but she stopped herself in time and replied instead, "You little dog, are you starting to care about face now? Fine, since she didn't make things difficult for you, I'll cooperate with the investigation."
"Alright, alright, thank you so much for your generosity, Miss Lin!" Cheng Sangluo rubbed his wife's cheek. "We've gone off on a tangent. Weren't we talking about my family of vampires?"
“Your brother is such a gambler, it’s inevitable that he’ll repeat his mistakes. I’m just having my men build some connections, and he’ll go back to his old ways of gambling. Your parents will be dragged down with him too. They’ll be in constant turmoil, so they won’t bother you anymore. I have plenty of ways to deal with people like this who’s rotten to the core.” Lin Jin spoke of that family of accomplices with a chilling tone, his expression turning sinister.
This shrewd woman is very good at applying what she's learned to other situations; this method of dealing with a gambling addict was something she learned from Lin Sheng.
Lin Sheng had his eye on Cheng Sangluo, wanting to completely ruin her life. He had Xu Songheng set a trap, which led Cheng Xing down this path of no return.
Lin Jin didn't expect to be able to apply what she learned so quickly.
When she turned to look at her beloved puppy, she regained her gentle and tender demeanor, dotingly saying, "I will not allow any dangerous factors to exist. Everything is slowly getting better, and no one can ruin our lives."
A hint of surprise flashed in Cheng Sangluo's eyes, because in those few seconds she saw a completely different change in Lin Jin's expression.
She thought Lin Jin had changed and wouldn't be as petty as before, but now she realized that the crazy woman was still the crazy woman, only she had concealed her sharpness and given all her hidden tenderness to herself.
Cheng Sangluo washed her face to wipe away the inexplicable discomfort, and then changed the subject: "What would you like to eat for breakfast? I'll make it in a bit."
"Cheng Sangluo." Lin Jin slapped the towel in his hand against her face, kissed her lips through the fabric, and said firmly, "Yes... I want to eat Cheng Sangluo..."
"Eek!" Cheng Sangluo made a disgusted sound, but his hands and feet were very honest. He had already nimbly picked up his wife and walked towards the kitchen. "Okay, now let's go steam Cheng Sangluo."
Lin Jin hooked her arm around the puppy's neck and asked with a gentle smile, "Why steamed? Can I order pan-fried instead?"
Cheng Sangluo hadn't yet grasped the subtlety of the words and asked naively, "Then why pan-fry it? Deep-frying would be fine too!"
Lin Jin brought her lips close to her ear and whispered in a soft voice, "Yesterday was so wonderful. From now on, I look forward to steaming Cheng Sangluo with fragrant water every day... steaming Cheng Sangluo with fragrant water..."
"Smells...water...want...sleep..." Cheng Sangluo mumbled out the answer, her face instantly turning as red as a monkey's bottom, before bursting into a shrill exclamation: "Oh my god, oh my god, you're so...such an old-fashioned pun...you're so indecent..."
In fact, Cheng Sangluo dared not think too much about yesterday's sweet moments, especially the path from the dressing room to the study.
The two rooms weren't far apart, but they felt impossibly far away, making her legs weak with every step.
That buzzing little gadget had an amazing aftertaste that made her, who was perfectly clear-headed at the moment, feel a kind of illusion.
The illusion of electric current, mixed with the sound of water, hummed and echoed in our ears, creating the illusion that we were still sharing a faint, lingering sense of connection.
Lin Jin had taught her what it meant to be "once you've tasted the sweetness," and she could only understand it to some extent when she lost her mind and went crazy in the midst of love.
At this moment, she finally understood the true meaning of "tasting the marrow and knowing the flavor".
She was obsessed with, indulging in, every hug and kiss with Lin Jin, and reveling in the suffocating feeling of climbing the mountain together.
You must stay close together, like a farewell before the end of the world, for that kiss will feel all the more precious.
We must share our world intimately, bathe in the river of love forever, and live on endlessly.
You must, at the peak of your emotional outburst, express your love for me without reservation, revealing exactly how much you love me.
Cheng Sangluo swallowed hard, her back twitching involuntarily, before finally emerging from her lingering, unpredictable thoughts.
She looked at Lin Jin in a daze, and when she met his deep eyes, she was completely captivated in an instant.
"Go ahead, go to your territory. Who knows who'll get the upper hand then?" Lin Jin leaned softly against her, seducing her with a perfectly timed flirtatious move, deliberately bewitching her: "I saw you really liked that little toy yesterday. Why don't you try it again, or maybe try something else? Anyway, you have plenty of toys, enough to keep you entertained for a while~"
"Eat you? Of course I'd spit out the bones!" Cheng Sangluo, her blood boiling, quickened her pace. "Watch out, or you'll get carried away!"
