Chapter 14 On the Road (2/2)

The two of them walked together under a big tree, and Wang Li said: "Han Ya, you must be too tired from walking. Let's eat something and rest."

Han Ya said: "Auntie, let's make some porridge. You haven't eaten well all day, and you haven't walked so much, so don't let yourself get tired.

Wang Li said: "You see I can't do it anymore. I'll lie down for a while. I'm too tired. I didn't even wash my face and my hair was a mess. Han Ya took a towel, poured some water, wiped Wang Li's face and said: "Auntie, it will feel comfortable after wiping it. You take a nap. I'll make some porridge and boil an egg for you." Wang Li didn't want to say that she was tired. She raised her hand, made a "㟧" gesture, and fell asleep.

When we woke up, Han Ya had already cooked porridge. The two of us drank two bowls each and ate an egg. Han Ya had probably washed the egg before cooking the porridge, but since we were fleeing from famine, we didn't care whether the egg was clean or not.

Wang Li said, "Go to sleep, girl. You should get up and watch over her in the second half of the night. Auntie just woke up and can't fall asleep."

Silly girl said: "Aunt, remember to call me." Then she fell asleep. The girl was too tired. The backpack was bigger than Wang Li's, and she had to cook. Wang Li found that her body could not do anything and was weak. She sat there thinking about all sorts of things until dawn.

Seeing that the girl was still asleep, he did not wake her up. He dug some wild vegetables nearby, picked them up, hid behind a rock and went into the space to wash them, poured out two bamboo tubes of boiling water, took two bowls of porridge, put some more water in the pot, and added some firewood before waking up the silly girl. The porridge was bought in modern times.

Han Ya woke up and saw that the meal was ready. She realized that she had forgotten to keep watch the whole night. She felt so embarrassed that she almost cried.

Wang Li smiled and said, "It's okay. I don't get sleepy at night anyway, so you can just keep watch today." After the two of them had their meal, they started their day again.

Wang Li was depressed. Why didn’t she see anyone along the way?

We were a little scared just because we were alone. The road was really difficult today, full of potholes. I didn't know what happened to the road, with so many potholes.

It's almost July and it's still so hot on the road. I think Shanxi is still a better place than Henan. At least no one is starving to death.

Before I traveled through time, I watched a movie about people fleeing famine in Henan. They were so pitiful. All their food and drinks were snatched away by the Kuomintang, and the little that was left was quickly blown up by the Japanese. The poor girls even sold themselves.

As I thought about it, I regained my strength and encouraged myself to reach 30 today. Suddenly, Han Ya said, "There is a dead person lying by the tree in front of me. I am scared.

Wang Li thought to herself, I’m afraid too, but I have to save my face.

Wang Li said: Don't be afraid, girl. See if he has anything we can use. Let's find a place to put his things down. You go to the higher slope and see if there is anyone nearby. If no one is around, we can take his things and use them ourselves.

Han Ya ran up the hill to look for someone. Wang Li looked at this person. Why did he look familiar? Where had she seen him before? Was he someone the original body knew? No matter what, she would first check if he was breathing and feel his pulse to see if it was still beating.

I thought I had found a treasure, but it turned out to be a burden. I touched his forehead and felt it was a little hot, so I quickly helped him up and gave him a pill of amoxicillin and a fever-reducing pill. He clenched his teeth tightly and pinched his nose. When his mouth opened, I quickly poured the medicine and water into his mouth.

After taking the medicine, I ignored him. Han Ya also came back and said, "Auntie, there is no one around, just the two of us. Should we steal his things?"

Wang Li almost laughed out loud. This child, if Han Ya had also gotten on the train and left her alone, she would probably have suffocated to death. This child is so funny.

Gasping for breath from exhaustion, yet still thinking of ways to have fun in the midst of suffering, Han Ya had already started preparing to make a fire.

Wang Li said: Girl, don't make a fire. Look, this man's leg is injured. There may be people hiding nearby. When they see us making a fire, they will know where we are.

Let’s eat rice balls and drink some water. When the two were about to eat, the man woke up and saw his friend’s stepmother when he opened his eyes. How could it be such a coincidence that every time he had problems, he would meet her to save him. What kind of fate is this?
