"What if we have nothing to do with each other? Would you still go to such great lengths to save me?"
Xu Xingchen didn't give Jun Haoyue any time to think. In fact, she had been holding some words in her heart for a long time, and she was unwilling to not ask them out.
"What about you? Aren't you the same? Seeing me injured, wouldn't you also do everything you can to save me?"
Jun Haoyue asked back the question like kicking the ball. Now was not a good time to say such a thing. If he said it wrong, it would be a disaster.
Xu Xingchen shook his head without saying anything and did not ask any further questions. The two of them rested there for a while.
Jun Haoyue had just helped Xu Xingchen up when bursts of thunder were heard in the distance, accompanied by large dark clouds. It seemed that it was going to rain again.
"Let's find a place to avoid the rain first. There are hillsides everywhere here, and there is a risk of collapse over time." Xu Xingchen didn't want to encounter a nightmare again just after surviving.
Jun Haoyue saw a small cave early in the morning and immediately carried Xu Xingchen towards the cave.
As expected, as soon as the two stepped into the cave, a violent storm came. Jun Haoyue hurriedly carried Xu Xingchen on his back and walked inside. The heavy rain had already spread to the cave entrance.
Jun Haoyue managed to light a fire with the tinder he carried with him. Xu Xingchen was in a terrible state, with wounds all over his body from being scratched by dead branches. He could only lean against the fire, which gave him a chance to catch his breath.
Jun Haoyue turned around silently and made a simple curtain with the vines growing in the cave, covering Xu Xingchen. He said, "I'll go to the cave entrance. You quickly take off your wet clothes and dry them by the fire."
Xu Xingchen couldn't help laughing and said, "I know."
This person is even more shy than me.
After the clothes were dried, Xu Xingchen felt refreshed all over, but the wound was still festering and needed to be treated quickly.
Xu Xingchen looked at the wound worriedly. Jun Haoyue had already gone out for a walk in the heavy rain. When he came back, he had a few more fruits in his hands, but his clothes were almost soaked.
Xu Xingchen took the fruit, and now it was her turn to turn around silently. Jun Haoyue was drying the clothes.
After eating the fruit, they regained their strength. The heavy rain outside the cave gradually stopped. Taking advantage of the break in the thunderstorm, the two had to find a way to leave here quickly.
Xu Xingchen couldn't walk. She could barely take a few steps with support, but that was too slow, so Jun Haoyue simply carried her on his back.
The two men wandered around in the mountains for a long time, until they were exhausted and on the verge of despair.
Xu Xingchen's eyes lit up, and he pointed to a narrow path not far away and said excitedly: "Let's go from there, it's right there."
Jun Haoyue was really impressed by Xu Xingchen's good eyesight, and quickly carried Xu Xingchen on his back and walked towards the trail. It turned out that this was not an uninhabited place, but there was a path.
If Xu Xingchen hadn't been so focused and calm in his search, he might not have found it. As he got closer and closer to the exit, Xu Xingchen collapsed, unable to hold on any longer.
"Xu Xingchen, don't sleep," Jun Haoyue was shocked, then realized that he was probably too tired, not fainted, so he quickly quickened his pace.
Dusk fell and the last ray of sunlight in the sky also disappeared. Fortunately, while there was still a ray of light, Jun Haoyue finally walked out with Xu Xingchen on his back.
Village chief Wu has already led the villagers out to look for Xu Xingchen.
"A few people go over here, a few more over there. While the rain is stopping, everyone should split up and start looking."
"Village chief, there is someone over there."
"Go and take a look."
Xu Xingchen was sleeping soundly on Jun Haoyue's back when he suddenly woke up and saw a group of people surrounding him.
"Good, I'm glad you're back." Village Chief Wu was still frightened. "Why are you covered in wounds? Go back and get treated."
"Your body is covered with wounds caused by dead branches. Bandage them. It would be bad if they fester. Fortunately, you arrived in time." The doctor said as he bandaged the wounds.
"What about you? Are you injured?" Xu Xingchen glanced at Jun Haoyue.
"No," Jun Haoyue was agile and apart from some scratches, the rest were not worth mentioning.
"Don't be stubborn, let the doctor take a look later." Xu Xingchen was still a little worried.
Jun Haoyue had no choice but to compromise.
The continuous heavy rain in recent days has damaged a lot of crops. In addition, it is the harvest season, which should have less rain and more sunshine, but it keeps raining. Xu Xingchen is a little anxious.
"The farmlands have a lot of water," said Village Chief Wu, his face weary. "The higher ground can still drain the water, but the low-lying farmlands are basically destroyed, and there's not much to harvest."
"The rain is a good thing," Xu Xingchen said. "Everything is excessive." He had hoped for rain before, but now he felt that too much rain was a disaster. "We can only think of other ways."
The heavy rains over the past few days have completely submerged the farmlands in the low-lying areas. No one would feel good after seeing the crops that they had worked so hard to grow destroyed.
Some villagers even tried to rescue food, but with the precedent of Xu Xingchen falling off the cliff, Wucun Township issued a special order that villagers should not risk going to the flooded farmland unless necessary. Of course, this soon caused dissatisfaction among the villagers.
"I've said it before, this Xu Xingchen is a jinx. When she comes, the rain comes too. One day, she's bound to turn our village upside down."
"Yes, I still remember what Aunt Wang said. It never rained for so long before."
Everyone was talking at once, pointing their fingers at Xu Xingchen.
"That's sheer nonsense," Jun Haoyue said. "How could Xu Xingchen possibly control the rain? That's sheer nonsense."
"My family's farmland is almost completely destroyed this year. This has never happened in previous years," someone in the crowd complained. "Who will compensate me for my losses?"
