Chapter 38: War of Lips and Tongues

Xu Xingchen's eyelids jumped, and Munduner popped out from behind Zhou Xiaoniang, jumped into her arms, and pointed at the greenhouse with his short arms.

"The wheat is spoiled."

Zhou Xiaoniang explained to her incoherently that Mundun'er was a data body and the people on this planet could not see him, so they did not know that Xu Xingchen had learned from Mundun'er's words that the wheat grown in the greenhouse had been destroyed.

"I finished watering the wheat with Shuanzi at noon and then went back to cook. I thought no one would go to the greenhouse without you, so I came a little late, and then...嘤嘤嘤, Sister Xu, I'm sorry."

Shuanzi patted her back to comfort her with an embarrassed look on his face, but he didn't know how to explain the situation. He was too dumb to know what to say, so he chose to remain silent.

Xu Xingchen entered the greenhouse and saw that it was in a mess. All the wheat seedlings had been pulled out and trampled, the land was dug into potholes, and the hoe used in the crime was thrown aside.

She took out the diluted nutrient solution to try to remedy the situation, but the wheat seedlings showed no improvement. She tried again with the undiluted nutrient solution, but the wheat seedlings still did not survive.

She stood up angrily and walked out of the greenhouse to ask Zhou Xiaoniang about the details.

Jun Haoyue, who followed, picked up the hoe and shook it in his hand. After looking around, he called out softly, "Mundun'er."

Mundun'er, who was originally in Xu Xingchen's arms, jumped out when he heard Jun Haoyue calling him. Xu Xingchen subconsciously shouted, "Mundun'er!?"

"... Confused? Sister Xu, what did you say?" Shuanzi looked around and asked.

"It's okay. How long did it take for you to go back and come here?"

Shuanzi scratched his head and asked Zhou Xiaoniang. Zhou Xiaoniang, her eyes red and swollen, estimated for a moment before speaking: "About two hours."

Two hours, four hours...

It seemed that the people who destroyed the wheat took advantage of her absence.

While thinking, Jun Haoyue walked out of the greenhouse holding Mendun'er. He lowered his eyes and looked at the broken lock on the ground and frowned.

"It looks like we'll have to replant it."

Xu Xingchen was also in a dilemma. There was not enough nutrient solution. Relying on the wheat's natural growth rate, the harvest could only be done in autumn, which would greatly affect the profits.

Besides, they had just made some progress in the town today, and the production stopped after just one day. Without any results, how could she convince the villagers to join?

Jun Haoyue saw that she was worried and held out his hand. Xu Xingchen was very upset at this moment and asked unhappily, "What for?"

The palm of the hand was open, and there lay a ring.

Xu Xingchen said "Huh" and picked up the ring. It was just an ordinary silver ring with carved patterns.

"It was found in the greenhouse, maybe..." Jun Haoyue explained to her.

Before he could finish his words, there was a noise outside the shed, and Zhou Xiaoniang's crying could be heard.

The two looked at each other and walked out of the greenhouse. Aunt Wang pointed at Zhou Xiaoniang and her husband and said something excitedly. Her voice was so loud that it attracted the attention of the villagers.

Seeing Xu Xingchen, Aunt Wang was stunned at first, then she immediately changed her target and shouted, "Look, Widow Xu has appeared."

The villagers also looked over, and Xu Xingchen suddenly became the focus before he knew what had happened.

"I said there was something wrong between her and Shuanzi from Zhou Xiaoniang's family. I saw her talking to Shuanzi while avoiding Zhou Xiaoniang the day before yesterday." Aunt Wang continued to talk nonsense.

Shuanzi was very straightforward. He tried to explain for a long time but still couldn't explain clearly. Aunt Wang even made things worse by picking on his poor eloquence.

Zhou Xiaoniang was already feeling guilty for her negligence in looking after the greenhouse, and after hearing these words, she started crying again, but this time she was also angry.

She knew that Xu Xingchen was talking to Shuanzi because they had a quarrel and Xu Xingchen asked her to help him persuade Shuanzi's relatives to borrow money.

She originally believed in Sister Xu, but Aunt Wang was right. Why did Sister Xu avoid herself when she talked to Shuanzi?

Aunt Wang successfully made Zhou Xiaoniang fabricate a story out of nothing and she became suspicious of Xu Xingchen.

Xu Xingchen's wheat business was first destroyed, and then he instigated discord between them. The anger in his heart rushed to his brain, and he glared at Aunt Wang with eyes that seemed to spit fire.

Aunt Wang's heart started pounding when she glared at her. Her gaze was so cold that it could freeze her to ashes, but the anger in her eyes seemed to burn her to ashes.

But she is not a pushover either. If a person has no shame, he will be invincible. What is there for her to be afraid of? The more she talks, the more excited she becomes.

Zhou Xiaoniang couldn't stand it anymore and left crying. Shuanzi clenched his fists and wanted to hit Aunt Wang, but his wife was more important, so he chased Zhou Xiaoniang and left.

Aunt Wang's son Zhang Tiansheng, a coward, only dared to jump out to support his mother after seeing Shuanzi leave.

"Widow Xu is just a slut. Count how many men she has been involved in gossip with. If she hadn't revealed her true colors, how could she have been caught so often? Don't you agree?"

But there were very few responses. The villagers came to watch the fun, not to cause trouble, and no one wanted to take sides.

Jun Haoyue took a step towards Zhang Tiansheng with a cold face, and Zhang Tiansheng rushed back into the crowd.

Aunt Wang was so disappointed that she could only fight alone.

Xu Xingchen laughed out of anger. Every time there was a rumor that she had an affair with a man, it was always this mother and son in front of him. Why hadn't others spread such rumors?

She was too lazy to argue with this mother and son who were always talking nonsense about men and women. She just wanted to catch the murderer who destroyed her wheat field.

"Speaking of which, Aunt Wang came to my house yesterday and made a scene, and she's here again today. But what did she do to try to strike while the iron is hot?"

Xu Xingchen stared at Aunt Wang closely, not missing any of her expressions.

Aunt Wang felt guilty, but she didn't reveal her true colors. She stubbornly retorted, "Widow Xu, what do you mean? Why did I make a fuss? I was just passing by your door yesterday."

"So what are you doing here today?"

"Just, I'm here to expose you for seducing Shuanzi."

Xu Xingchen's eyes flickered. "Then why didn't you expose it to me, but to Zhou Xiaoniang instead? I think Aunt Wang, you are sure that I'm not around, right? And you can also take advantage of my absence to sow discord between me and Zhou Xiaoniang."

"You're talking nonsense! Miss Zhou is standing at the door. Of course I'll expose you to her first for seducing someone else's husband."

"Oh, Aunt Wang is so powerful. Did she know that Mrs. Zhou and her husband would be here with me?"

Aunt Wang was gradually losing her patience. Xu Xingchen had guessed most of what he said correctly, but she could only bite the bullet and continue to reply, "Yes, they have been coming here every day to do hard labor for you recently, so naturally they are here with you."

"Oh~ It seems Aunt Wang knows a lot about my place."

"Anyone with eyes can see this!"

"Did you destroy my greenhouse?" Xu Xingchen made a sudden turn and went straight to the point.

Aunt Wang was so distracted by her previous conversation that she was half a beat slower. She replied dazedly, "I..."

But she immediately came to her senses, jumped up and down, pointed at Xu Xingchen and cursed: "Widow Xu, what nonsense are you talking about? What greenhouse? I don't know what you are talking about!"
