Chapter 6: Unexpected Visitors

A hint of vigilance appeared in Xu Xingchen's eyes.

She had been here for so long, but she didn't know what friends Munduner had. When Xu Xingchen was about to take Munduner back to the house, Munduner grabbed Xu Xingchen's collar, with a look of reluctance in her eyes.

The man laughed softly and said, "If you don't believe me, you can ask Mundun'er."

Xu Xingchen suppressed her suspicion and said to Mendun'er in a gentle voice, "Good Mendun'er, tell me, is this person your friend? Don't be afraid, sister is here."

Munduner nodded timidly, looking at the man eagerly.

This expression is most likely true.

Xu Xingchen put Mundun'er down, and Mundun'er lifted her short legs and ran quickly to the man. Xu Xingchen was actually a little jealous when he saw this, and said in a very depressed tone: "Who feeds you and who clothes you? You run away when you see a stranger."

The man smiled deeply, picked up Munduner, and said something in Munduner's ear. Then Munduner smiled happily, stuck to Xu Xingchen and started to act coquettishly.

It was cold outside, and it wasn't good to leave Mundun'er's friends outside all the time. Xu Xingchen hugged Mundun'er and said, "Come inside with me."

The man's expression remained gentle as he followed Xu Xingchen into the house.

Xu Xingchen was lost in thought, and the situation fell into a moment of awkwardness. The man was the first to break the silence, asking, "How are you doing lately?"

Xu Xingchen glanced at the man strangely. Was he that familiar with him? He replied as usual, "Not bad. We've been together for so long, and you still haven't told me your name."

The man readily replied, "My name is Jun Haoyue."

Jun Haoyue.

Xu Xingchen savored the name carefully in his mind.

It sounds pretty good.

Xu Xingchen nodded, looking down in thought. Jun Haoyue's eyes flashed with an imperceptible doting. The way Xu Xingchen thought about it was like a little squirrel preparing food, so adorable.

Xu Xingchen raised his head and looked at Jun Haoyue, and found that Jun Haoyue had also been looking at him. Their eyes met and the air became quiet.

"What do you do? Where are you from? How did you get to know Munduner?"

Xu Xingchen still asked out of concern.

Jun Haoyue burst out laughing and explained one by one, "I'm a well-traveled scholar, and wherever I go is where I'm from, so I don't even know where I came from. And Mendun'er, because I met him once when I traveled here before. I didn't expect that he still remembered me after all this time. This kid is truly remarkable."

Xu Xingchen began to analyze the credibility of these words in his mind.

Jun Haoyue suppressed his laughter, glanced at the backyard, and said suggestively, "Are you growing anything in the backyard?"

Xu Xingchen was still thinking and nodded perfunctorily.

Jun Haoyue walked to the back and looked around. It was really strange that the backyard could still be lush and green with young plants growing in such a cold weather.

Jun Haoyue stared for a moment and returned to his original position.

"It's really rare that a girl can plant in the backyard when the mountains are blocked by heavy snow."

Xu Xingchen wanted to slap himself. Why did he suddenly admit it? Who could grow anything in the middle of winter? Now he could only make up an excuse.

"It's nothing special, just a special seed that I picked up when I went up the mountain and planted randomly. It's really not easy to survive in such a heavy snow."

Jun Haoyue had a smile in his eyes and asked, "Oh? Really?"

Two drops of sweat dripped down Xu Xingchen's forehead. He looked away guiltily, "Why would I lie to you?"

Jun Haoyue nodded and said nothing else. Silence filled the air again.

Xu Xingchen was so embarrassed that he wanted to dig his way out of the three-bedroom apartment with his feet. Jun Haoyue said sharply, "You are planting potatoes, right?"

Xu Xingchen hadn't known about it before, but now he could tell it was a potato by the leaves. Because they were fertilized with nutrients, the leaves were particularly strong.

Xu Xingchen touched his nose, looked towards the fields, and said, "Yes. Mr. Jun knows a lot. I thought scholars would not bother to know such things."

"There's no such thing as what you should or shouldn't know. Scholars should know a little bit about everything, so they can make decisions that are truly beneficial to the country."

These words are very suitable for this era, and Xu Xingchen's doubts were slightly dispelled.

"However, you may be able to add a dish to yourself by grafting tomato seedlings. In this way, you can pick tomatoes from above and dig potatoes from below, and the yield can be increased." Jun Haoyue said lightly.

Xu Xingchen looked at Jun Haoyue in surprise. A slight smile appeared on Jun Haoyue's face. "Miss Xu, is there something wrong with you looking at me like that?"

No, that's totally wrong.

First of all, this person's background is unclear, and now he knows so much about agronomy, which makes Xu Xingchen suspect that it is one of his colleagues who has come to share life and death with him.

However, Xu Xingchen immediately dismissed this idea. Before being punished, Xu Xingchen was just a mediocre experimenter, usually taciturn and without many friends. No one would be stupid enough to come to this godforsaken planet.

But this suggestion is indeed a good one. Xu Xingchen has left the tomato seeds at home unused. It is unknown how long the heavy snow will last, and the stock at home is almost gone. It is best to store some starch.

Xu Xingchen didn't know that what he was thinking was written on his face. When he was silent, he sometimes looked gloomy, as if he was thinking, and sometimes he drooped his eyebrows, as if he was worried about something. The richness of his micro-expressions was comparable to that of a Disney princess.

Jun Haoyue covered the corners of his mouth with his sleeves to hide his smile.

Before I knew it, it was getting dark.

Jun Haoyue said, "The mountain is covered in snow and it's getting dark. I wonder if you could let me stay here in a small hut for a few nights?"

"What?" Xu Xingchen almost couldn't believe his ears.

How could this person be so unassuming? It was just one room, and it was already crowded for just Mundun and I, and now there was a 5'8" tall man?

Jun Haoyue was very considerate: "Don't worry, I naturally know how to maintain the separation between men and women, so all I need to do is build a small cabin in the backyard to provide a shelter from the wind and rain."

Xu Xingchen was stunned for a moment, but seeing that the other person's face looked too sincere, and the snow was pressing outside, it was not easy to chase him out, so after thinking about it for a while, he agreed.

Xu Xingchen had been thinking about building a small house next to the experimental fields to observe the growth changes and preferences of the crops in real time. He had already prepared the materials, but had been struggling with a lack of labor. Even if Xu Xingchen was independent, he couldn't afford to build a house on his own. Now that someone had brought it to him, it was a good idea to use it.
