Chapter 9: Adding Fuel to the Exaggeration Jun Haoyue

Zhang Xiaochun grinned at Jun Haoyue: "Hello, sir. May I ask how old you are? What's your name? What do you do now?"

Jun Haoyue rarely lost control of the situation. He twitched his lips, did not answer a single question, and hid slightly behind Xu Xingchen.

Originally it was a man in Xu Xingchen's family making trouble, but now it has turned into a one-man show of Zhang Xiaochun's crazy lover.

Xu Xingchen couldn't bear to let Jun Haoyue endure Pu Xin's attack alone in the middle of winter, so he had no choice but to stand in front of Jun Haoyue and said helplessly, "Miss Zhang, this is my distant cousin. There was a snowstorm and his family had nothing to eat, so he came to me for help."

Zhang Xiaochun didn't even remember where he was standing. He turned to Aunt Wang with a very unhappy look.

"Do you have evidence to prove that someone is hiding in someone else's home? Would you feel comfortable if I said someone is hiding in your home?"

Aunt Wang was momentarily stunned by the sudden change in the people who had been on her side. In the distance, a resounding, powerful voice rang out.

"What are you doing? What are you arguing about?"

An old man in a sheepskin coat walked in, looking very kind and amiable. Xu Xingchen liked such old men, as they always reminded her of her grandfather who had passed away long ago.

"Why are all the windows open? It's so cold, aren't the elderly and children at home afraid of freezing?"

As soon as this sentence was spoken, the windows of many houses had already been closed, leaving only a crack at most.

The old man looked at Xu Xingchen and lowered his eyes slightly: "Sister Xu, tell me, what is going on?"

He should be the village chief of this place, so what he says carries weight.

Xu Xingchen nodded. "This is my cousin Jun Haoyue. There was a snowstorm recently, so he came to my house to avoid the disaster. I don't know why, but Aunt Wang said that I was hiding a man in my house. Please judge for yourself. I can't argue with Aunt Wang."

Aunt Wang, who had just been scolded by Xu Xingchen a few days ago, was about to retort when she heard Xu Xingchen say that he couldn't scold her, but the village chief spoke again: "Since you say this is your cousin, there must be some evidence, right? He can't come here for no reason. He must have brought some things from his family, right?"

That hits the nail on the head.

Xu Xingchen was also a little worried. This was all just a random fabrication of his own, there was no such thing as a cousin.

Just as he was thinking about how to prevaricate, Jun Haoyue stretched out his wrist and said, "Look. I have a mark of the moon on my body, and my sister has one too."

Xu Xingchen was confused. Where was the trace of the moon on his body... No, there was!

She took a quick step forward and lifted up the loose hair on her forehead, revealing her temples. Although the silver moon on them was not very obvious, it was still visible.

The village chief leaned closer, squinted his eyes and looked at it for a while, repeatedly comparing it with the birthmark on Jun Haoyue's hand, and said, "Indeed."

The village chief looked at Aunt Wang and deliberately said loudly: "She has her cousin's birthmark on her body. Tell me, can't your cousin take her in?"

The evidence was overwhelming, and Aunt Wang finally gave in. Her face flushed, speechless, she turned and tried to leave.

Xu Xingchen immediately rushed over and grabbed Aunt Wang.

"Aunt Wang, now that you've finished your story, it's time for me to talk about mine." Xu Xingchen narrowed his eyes, with a hint of danger flashing in them.

Xu Xingchen quickly walked back to the house, and when he came back, he was holding the pot where the seedlings were grown.

The bottom of the pot is very shallow, more like a pot lid than a pot. Of the lush seedlings that were once there, only a few are still growing. The rest are broken and wilted. It will probably be difficult to successfully grow seedlings.

"I originally planned to plant these wheat seedlings in the spring as food for next year. Now I have nothing left. You must compensate me."

When Aunt Wang heard that she had to compensate for something, her eyes widened and she said in disbelief, "Me? You want me to compensate you for something?"

Xu Xingchen nodded: "Of course. It's only natural to pay back a debt. You damaged my seedlings, so of course you have to compensate me."

Aunt Wang snorted a few times with disdain.

"If you don't tell me where this man came from, I will take your things?!"

"Who are you to me? What obligation do I have to help you explain my cousin's origins?"

Xu Xingchen responded calmly.

Aunt Wang was almost speechless after hearing these words. She almost rolled her eyes and almost died. But Zhang Xiaochun beside her was trying to add fuel to the fire: "That's right, you don't provide food and drink for Mr. Jun, so why should Miss Xu help you?"

Zhang Xiaochun's stance had long since shifted to Xu Xingchen's side due to Jun Haoyue's appearance.

Aunt Wang was about to retort, but the village chief said with full force, "Shut up, everyone! It's freezing cold, why can't you just finish your reasoning? Aunt Wang, compensate Miss Xu. It's a deal. I'm the one making the decision!"

Since the village chief had already said so, Aunt Wang could no longer refuse and had to reluctantly take out things of the same weight from her own granary.

Xu Xingchen snatched it from Aunt Wang with a smile: "Thank you. I knew that Aunt Wang is the most reasonable person in the world."

This remark, full of veiled ridicule and subtle sarcasm, completely humiliated Aunt Wang. She felt as if she had punched a piece of soft cotton, unable to decide whether to hit or not, and was filled with rage.

After Xu Xingchen got the wheat, he immediately went home, closed the door, and prepared to breed again.

After the village chief finished dealing with all this, he pulled out an old pipe from his waist and began to smoke it, walking home. Zhang Xiaochun followed behind him, smiling flatteringly.

"Village Chief, do you know the origins of Xu Xingchen's cousin?"

The village chief glanced back and probably knew what Zhang Xiaochun was thinking.

"How would I know? But you reminded me. So, go to Xu Xingchen's house and ask her cousin to come over and register with me. He's half a villager now, and since he's come to us for refuge, we need to give him some food."

Zhang Xiaochun's face showed surprise: "Oh, that's why they say this is our village chief! He is so insightful, there is no fault to be found!"

The village chief hummed twice and then started to talk.

Zhang Xiaochun perfunctorily agreed, his mind already completely focused on Jun Haoyue. That man, from a distance, looked extraordinary, and up close, even more handsome! If only he could truly be her husband...

It’s a beautiful thing to think about!

On the other hand, Jun Haoyue and Xu Xingchen entered the house one after another and fell into a sweet silence.

"Uh..." they both said at the same time.

"You speak first." The two spoke at the same time again.

They smiled awkwardly at each other. Jun Haoyue was the first to break the awkwardness, pointing at Xu Xingchen's hand and saying, "Your hand was injured when you were grabbing something just now."

Xu Xingchen had taken the issue of air permeability into consideration, so he'd specially used a bamboo basket to cultivate the seeds. The basket inevitably had some barbs, so it was normal for them to be accidentally injured when trying to grab them. Xu Xingchen hadn't even noticed it himself, but Jun Haoyue had.
