Chapter 98: Skipping Stones

Xu Xingchen stayed in her room almost the entire day, and only came out to get some fresh air in the evening.

"Have you made anything? Your house has been making clanging noises all day long." Jun Haoyue saw her come out and came forward to tease her.

"The faucet is almost finished..."

Xu Xingchen stretched lazily, with a look of loneliness on his face.

"What's wrong?"

"But we don't have a water pump, so it's useless to build a faucet."

Xu Xingchen pursed her lips. Why was it so difficult to start her fish pond? She was lacking everything she needed.

Jun Haoyue's expression changed slightly, and then he smiled and said, "Let's rest first. It won't be too late to make more after you've rested. Anyway, the fish that Mendun brought are not enough, so we still have time."

Xu Xingchen nodded. Perhaps because she had worked hard all day, she slept very soundly that night.

The next day, Xu Xingchen went out contentedly, but saw Jun Haoyue already standing in the yard waiting for her.

Xu Xingchen looked up and saw that the morning star was still hanging in the sky, half-disappearing. Jun Haoyue was actually already waiting for her. "You... aren't asleep?" Xu Xingchen looked at Jun Haoyue in surprise.

"Why don't I take you out for a walk this morning?"

Jun Haoyue tilted his head and smiled, then added: "It can't be said to be completely relaxing, it's just relaxing while doing serious work."

"Business?"

Xu Xingchen became even more confused. Is there anything in the world that can be used to relax?

"I think our fish pond should be decorated. We should put some small stones on the edge of the pond. Let's go find some small stones and put them on the edge of the pond."

Jun Haoyue pointed at the cart behind him and said this. Xu Xingchen's face was full of black lines. So what were they doing? They finally moved the stones away, but they wanted to move some of them back.

"Let's go."

Although he felt disgusted, Xu Xingchen still pulled Jun Haoyue out.

They found many stones of roughly equal size. By noon, they had collected a whole cart. Xu Xingchen wiped the sweat from his forehead and glanced back at the cart full of stones. "This should be enough, right?"

"That's enough."

As Jun Haoyue spoke, he went up to the sky and pulled the cart. Xu Xingchen followed behind, humming a little tune. The weather began to warm up, and the snow on the distant mountaintops melted a little, shining brightly under the sun. Xu Xingchen couldn't help but feel in a good mood.

The two walked to the fish pond and began to lay stones. Xu Xingchen picked out the thinnest stone from the pile. She looked at the stones and her expression changed slightly.

"When I was little, I often used these stones to skip across the water. Maybe I was a genius since I was little. Among so many children, my skipping stones were the farthest and the best."

Xu Xingchen smiled with a sense of loss. Many years had passed since her childhood, and even the occasional flash of memory seemed pale. Then she cursed Ice Face many times in her heart.

"Skipping stones? What is that?"

Jun Haoyue looked at Xu Xingchen who was slightly dazed, and walked forward to ask.

"You don't even know this. Didn't you have a childhood? This is a game we often played when we were little."

Xu Xingchen said as she walked to the edge of the pool and threw the stone in her hand out. Then she screamed, "Did you see that? Three water!"

"Huh? Is that difficult?"

Jun Haoyue looked at the rippling water with a confused expression.

"Of course it's difficult. Only someone as gifted as me can create three splashes. Most people can only create one at best. If you don't believe me, try it."

Xu Xingchen crossed his arms and looked at Jun Haoyue provocatively.

Jun Haoyue picked up a stone from the ground at random and threw it into the water with all his strength. The stone sank to the bottom with a splash, causing ripples on the water surface.

Xu Xingchen put his hands on his hips and laughed unceremoniously, "Well, I told you it's very difficult, right? Just call me Master and I'll teach you how to skip stones on the water."

"Master."

Jun Haoyue called out without reservation, and his call frightened Xu Xingchen for a long time. She didn't expect him to call out so bluntly, and her face showed a little discomfort.

"Okay, okay, I'll teach you."

Xu Xingchen waved his hand, ran to the pond, picked up a few thin stones, and threw them into the water while saying, "See? There are certain rules for skipping stones. You need thin stones. How can a big stone like yours work?"

"Let's try it." Xu Xingchen said as he put a stone into Jun Haoyue's palm.

Jun Haoyue imitated Xu Xingchen and hit the stone onto the water surface. A splash actually appeared. Xu Xingchen jumped up happily, with a smile on his face as bright as a child's.

"Not bad, you learn quickly."

"Master taught me well."

The man played by the pool for a long time before going to lay the stones. By the time he finished, it was already noon.

After lunch and a short rest, Xu Xingchen went up the mountain alone. She wanted to cut some bamboo to make water pipes. After finally cutting enough bamboo, Xu Xingchen picked up the bamboo and was about to go down the mountain. Unexpectedly, she saw a rabbit from a distance. She ran over quickly, and when she got close to the rabbit, her steps became much lighter. She walked to the rabbit and grabbed it.

"Little cub, you're quite cute."

Xu Xingchen smiled. The rabbit looked really strange. It was gray all over, but had a tuft of white hair on its head. It looked very funny. Xu Xingchen went down the mountain contentedly, holding the rabbit in one hand and carrying the bamboo in the other.

After returning home, Xu Xingchen put down the bundle of bamboo and went to feed the rabbits. Jun Haoyue came out and saw the bamboo, with a hint of surprise in her eyes. He had just thought of using bamboo to help Xu Xingchen make a simple water pump, and she actually cut the bamboo. Is this telepathy?

When Xu Xingchen finished feeding the rabbits and came over, she saw that her bundle of bamboo had been turned into a simple water pump by Jun Haoyue.

"Let's try it."

Jun Haoyue saw Xu Xingchen coming over and took the water pump with a smile.

The two first tried it in their own well. The water pump output was very large, but before Xu Xingchen could even exclaim in surprise, she was soaked like a drowned rat. She stared at the pump in a daze and forgot to hide for a moment. Jun Haoyue pulled her over.

"It seems that it cannot control the direction of the water flow or the amount."

Jun Haoyue took off his coat and put it on Xu Xingchen, then said apologetically.

"It's okay." Xu Xingchen wiped the water off his face and exclaimed in his heart that the power of this water pump was too great. It should be good for dealing with Aunt Wang.

"What's going on?"

A hearty voice was heard. When the two turned around, Zhao Gan was already standing outside the door. Jun Haoyue held Xu Xingchen in his arms and said, "It's okay."

Zhao Gan walked to the well and looked at the pump, then said thoughtfully, "Maybe I have a solution."
