Chapter 27 (Combined with Twenty-Seven and Three)

Chapter 27 (Combined with Twenty-Seven and Three)

Twenty-seven:

Pei Liang leaned against the piano, looking at Ye Qingxi: "Not bad."

He asked, "Can you still do it?"

Ye Qingxi: ...

“He didn’t refute it, so he still can!” Kang Cong immediately replied, disregarding the life or death of his childhood friend.

He wished Ye Qingxi would play a couple more songs right now, enough to make his childhood friend faint.

Ye Qingxi: !!

No, is that all you know how to say?!

Here we go again!

Ye Qingxi smiled, "We're not here for a piano competition today, are we?"

Pei Liang tilted her head. "So you really can?"

Ye Qingxi: ...

"I...have studied a little."

"You started learning quite early."

Ye Qingxi: ...

Ye Qingxi could only nod.

What else? You can't exactly say he learned it in his past life, can you?

Pei Liang was satisfied. He looked at Ye Qingxi and felt good. Finally, one of his childhood friends wasn't so bad.

Hearing Ye Qingxi's words, Zhong Yan raised her chin and looked at Pei Liang, "Look at her, Xiao Xi has also learned it, but she doesn't show off. Unlike you, you have to show off everything you've learned. You think you're so great!"

"Otherwise what?" Pei Liang looked at him. "If you're so capable, why don't you show off too?"

He asked, "Why don't you show off? Is it because you don't want to?"

Zhong Yan: ...

Zhong Yan was speechless at his words, and angrily turned to Ye Qingxi and said, "Xiao Xi, what else can you do? Show him! Let him be arrogant again!"

“Exactly!” Kang Cong chimed in from the side.

Ye Qingxi: ...

Ye Qingxi really didn't want to continue competing with a five-year-old child.

So he smiled and said softly, "No, not at all~"

Pei Liang was somewhat disappointed upon hearing this.

He thought his friends should know a lot too, but Kang Cong and Zhong Yan, though cute, only knew how to eat, drink, play, and sleep. Pei Liang lamented this a lot.

Especially since the two of them are a year older than him.

Therefore, Pei Liangcai always liked to show off in front of his two childhood friends, hoping that they would be unconvinced and thus learn more from him.

But who would have thought that they were indeed unconvinced, and their way of dealing with unconvinced people was simply to "humph".

After humming in response, I lay back down and continued eating.

Pei Liang: ...

Therefore, upon learning that he was going to have a new childhood friend, Pei Liang dreamed every night that his childhood friend would be just as awesome as him.

But now, his new childhood friend is indeed a bit more impressive than his two weakling friends, but only a little.

Pei Liang couldn't help but sigh again.

Are geniuses really that lonely?

It's so sad that he has to walk this road alone at such a young age.

Pei Liang shook his head and put his hands back into his pockets. Being a genius is really hard!

Ye Qingxi looked at the changes in his expression and thought, "Dude, what are you thinking?"

What kind of expression is that?

Ye Qingxi was somewhat puzzled, feeling that the little boy in front of him was thinking a bit too much.

When Kang Cong saw that Ye Qingxi had stopped playing, he pulled him and ran towards his ball pit.

Children's likes are always simple. Ye Qingxi helped him and Zhong Yan defeat the great demon king Pei Liang, so he is their hero and their good friend.

Although... this great demon king is also their good friend.

But this is different!

Pei Liang is their good friend whom they must defeat, while Ye Qingxi is their good friend who will fight alongside them to defeat Pei Liang.

Kang Cong took off his slippers and stepped into the blue and white ball pit, calling to Ye Qingxi, "Come on, let's play on the slide together."

Ye Qingxi blinked. Ah... it's been so many years since he last played in a ball pit.

Seeing that he didn't move, Zhong Yan took off her slippers and pulled him inside, walking with him to the slide.

Kang Cong had already slid up the slide in a flash.

He put his arm around Ye Qingxi, who was like a brother to him, and led her up the stairs. He then made Ye Qingxi sit in front of him, and with a little push, he pushed her down the stairs.

Ye Qingxi slid down the slide and landed in a ball pit full of balls.

He was sitting down when he felt a force coming from behind him, and the next second Kang Cong's laughter rang in his ears.

Ye Qingxi turned around, and Kang Cong stood up with a cheerful smile, not forgetting to pull him up.

He was about to go play on the slide with Ye Qingxi again when he heard Zhong Yan call out to him, "Kang Cong, come here!"

Ye Qingxi turned around and saw that Zhong Yan had picked up the inflatable hammer from the ball pit and was hitting Pei Liang hard.

Pei Liang quickly dodged, bent down and picked up an inflatable hammer, and the two started fighting.

Kang Cong pulled Ye Qingxi and ran towards them, wanting to help his good brother Zhong Yan.

When Pei Liang saw him arrive, he said with dissatisfaction, "It's not fair for you to come two against one."

Zhong Yan said matter-of-factly, "I don't know what fairness is."

Pei Liang knew his childhood friend's educational level all too well, so he retorted without misunderstanding, "You don't even know what fairness is? You're still in elementary school? You should go back to kindergarten!"

Zhong Yan instantly raised her giant hammer, shouting, "I'll beat you to death!"

Kang Cong also grabbed the inflatable hammer and chased after them!

Pei Liang was outmatched by two opponents. He looked up and saw Ye Qingxi. He quickly called out, "Ye Qingxi, what are you standing there for? Come and fight them with me!"

"You wish! Xiao Xi is our friend, not yours." Kang Cong turned around. "Xiao Xi, come and join us in beating him up."

Ye Qingxi: ...Oh, this.

Pei Liang poked her head out and shouted, "How could it not be him? My grandpa said he brought me here to make a new friend. If it wasn't him, then it must be you guys!"

Ye Qingxi: ...Ah, this...

"Xiao Xi, tell me, whose friend are you?" Zhong Yan stopped swinging the inflatable hammer and turned to look at him.

Instantly, the remaining two pairs of eyes also turned to stare at him.

Ye Qingxi: !!

Ye Qingxi had a headache; why did she have to make choices again?!

He hates multiple-choice questions the most?!

Ye Qingxi looked at the three cubs in front of her, slowly raised the corners of her lips, and pointed to the slide not far away, "How about we go play on the slide?"

After saying that, he took off running, saying, "I'm going first."

Kang Cong was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly chased after him. When Zhong Yan saw Kang Cong running, she also ran after him.

He ran and shouted, "Whoever is the last one to arrive is a puppy!"

Pei Liang: ? ? ?

Pei Liang was speechless. "Zhong Yan, you're the dog. Dogs don't play by the rules."

Zhong Yan turned around, stuck her tongue out at him, made a face, and laughed triumphantly.

Outside the ball pit, Mu Feng watched quietly.

Pei Ying stood beside him and said, "See? I told you they could get along well, didn't I? My grandson is so well-behaved."

Mu Feng: ...

Mu Feng turned to look at him, "I wish you were as well-behaved as your grandson."

Pei Ying:? ? ?

Mu Feng turned and walked towards the living room.

Zhong Xiang patted his old friend on the shoulder, "Did you hear that? I wish you were as well-behaved as your grandson."

Pei Ying:? ? ? ?

Before he could retort, Kang Chi looked at him and said, "That's right, I wish you were as well-behaved as your grandson."

Pei Ying:? ? ? ? ?

Pei Ying turned around and looked at his three old friends. No, why was he being naughty?

wrong!

He's sixty years old!

Still being good?!

Is this how you describe a sixty-year-old man?!

Pei Ying pointed and gestured, then chased after him, unwilling to accept it.

Ye Qingxi and Kang Cong played in the ball pit for a while longer before Kang Chi came over to call them for dinner.

Zhong Yan was already starving, so she rushed out immediately.

Pei Liang said disdainfully, "You're good for nothing but eating."

Ye Qingxi thought for a moment and said in a low voice, "That's still first place."

Pei Liang: ? ? ?

Pei Liang turned to look at him and thought that what he said seemed to make sense.

It's better than Kang Cong; at least he got first place.

“You’re right,” he nodded.

"What are you two whispering about?" Kang Cong asked, puzzled.

He grabbed Ye Qingxi's arm and pulled her closer to his chest, saying, "Xiaoxi, don't let him lead you astray."

Pei Liang glanced at him sideways and said, "At least Zhong Yan is number one when it comes to eating, unlike you, who can't even be number one when it comes to eating."

Kang Cong: ...

Kang Cong snorted, grabbed Ye Qingxi's arm, and pulled him forward.

Pei Liang shrugged. He knew it. His childhood friend could only "humph." He wasn't a pig, always humming.

The dining table used by the Kang family was a round table. Ye Qingxi sat down next to Mu Feng, with Kang Cong's grandfather sitting next to her.

"Let's eat," Kang Chi said.

"Wait a minute." Pei Ying looked at Ye Qingxi.

He was still unwilling to accept that his grandson had lost, so he suggested, "Xiao Xi, Xiao Yan, Xiao Cong, and Xiao Liang, look, there are fish, shrimp, chickens, ducks, and many other small animals on this table. Why don't you recite a poem about animals? Whoever recites it best, I will give this bracelet to them."

As he spoke, he took off his jade bracelet.

Ye Qingxi was once a top celebrity, and she attended various fashion galas, so she has seen a lot of jewelry and jade.

Therefore, he could tell at a glance that Old Master Pei's bracelet was probably worth tens of millions.

That's really a big spender.

After Grandpa Pei finished speaking, he turned to his grandson, "Xiao Liang, you start things off for them."

Pei Liang has never been coy about such things, and he immediately said, "Spring sleep is so sweet that one doesn't notice the dawn, everywhere one hears birds singing, last night came the sound of wind and rain, how many flowers have fallen?"

Grandpa Pei nodded, "Not bad, not bad."

Ye Qingxi clapped along in response. Indeed, it was quite impressive for a child to be so poised and confident.

After Pei Liang finished reciting, it was Zhong Yan's turn, who was sitting next to Grandpa Pei.

Zhong Yan: ...

Zhong Yan pointed to herself, "Can I do it myself? Geese are animals too."

Grandpa Pei and Grandpa Kang burst into laughter.

Ye Qingxi couldn't help but smile slightly.

Grandpa Zhong wanted to laugh, but because it was his grandson, he was both amused and exasperated.

“You can’t do it,” Old Master Pei laughed. “You’re not a classical poet.”

Zhong Yan: ...

Zhong Yan clutched her stomach, "I'm not feeling well."

Grandpa Zhong looked at him and said, "I'm not feeling well either!"

Ye Qingxi couldn't help but laugh silently again.

Zhong Yan couldn't recite it, but Grandpa Pei didn't make things difficult for him. He skipped over Zhong Yan and asked Kang Cong, "Xiao Cong, you recite one."

Kang Cong had been racking his brains, and now he had an idea.

He happily recited, "Goose, goose, goose, with its curved neck singing to the sky, white feathers floating on green water, red webbed feet paddling through clear waves."

Zhong Yan: !!!

Oh no, how could he forget that!

“I know how to do that too,” Zhong Yan said. “I just forgot.”

“Then I’ll give you a chance. You can memorize one again.” Old Master Pei said gently.

Zhong Yan: ...

Zhong Yan clutched her stomach again, saying, "My stomach hurts."

Grandpa Zhong: His stomach hurts now too!

Not only does my stomach hurt, but my heart aches too!

"Sigh," Grandpa Zhong sighed inwardly. He himself had poor grades in school, so why was his grandson's still so bad?

Is this hereditary?

As he was pondering this, he heard his old friend say, "Xiao Xi, it's your turn."

Upon hearing this, Ye Qingxi readily recited the poem in reverse: "Two orioles sing in the green willows, a line of egrets soars into the blue sky, the window frames the snow-capped peaks of the Western Mountains, and boats from the Eastern Wu moor at the gate."

Zhong Yan immediately took her hand off her stomach and clapped for him!

Well memorized!

This is no better than "Spring Dawn"!

He can sing "Spring Dawn" perfectly, but he can't sing this one!

“Not bad,” Mu Feng said.

Ye Qingxi was surprised that Mu Feng would speak up, and smiled somewhat embarrassedly.

"Lotus can be picked in Jiangnan, and the lotus leaves are so lush and green."

Fish play among the lotus leaves.

Fish play among the lotus leaves to the east, fish play among the lotus leaves to the west.

"Fish play among the lotus leaves to the south, fish play among the lotus leaves to the north." Pei Liang immediately replied.

Zhong Yan and Kang Cong quickly looked at Ye Qingxi.

Ye Qingxi: ? ? ?

Why are you looking at me? Aren't you two going to carry this burden?

Ye Qingxi reminded Zhong Yan, "It's your turn."

Zhong Yan: "My stomach hurts."

Ye Qingxi: ...

Ye Qingxi could only look at Kang Cong.

Kang Cong covered his forehead. "My head hurts."

Ye Qingxi: ...

Okay, let's go with him.

Ye Qingxi began, “Birds have vanished from a thousand mountains, human tracks have disappeared from ten thousand paths, an old man in a straw hat and raincoat sits alone in a small boat, fishing in the cold river snow.”

Pei Liang: "From afar, the mountains are colorful; up close, the water is silent. Spring has gone, but the flowers remain; people come, but the birds are not startled."

Ye Qingxi: "The moon sets, crows cry, frost fills the sky; river maples and fishing lights reflect my sorrowful sleep; outside Suzhou city, at Hanshan Temple, the midnight bell tolls to the traveler's boat."

Pei Liang was somewhat surprised, as he had never read this poem before.

His surprise interrupted his train of thought, and he momentarily forgot what other poems were related to animals.

I finally remembered, but I only had two lines: "A few peach blossoms bloom outside the bamboo grove, the ducks are the first to know when the spring river warms; I've forgotten the rest."

"The ground is covered with watercress and the reeds are short; it's the perfect time for pufferfish to swim upstream," Ye Qingxi added for him.

Pei Liang was surprised, "You can do that too?"

Ye Qingxi: ...These are all things that you have to memorize in elementary school. He's eighteen years old, how could he not know them?

He just didn't go to school, not that he didn't study.

If he hadn't died suddenly, he would have been preparing for the college entrance exam this year!

"What else can you do?" Pei Liang asked. "Recite another one."

Ye Qingxi looked at him, originally intending to recite something as simple as "The Boy Fishing".

But when he saw Pei Ying next to Pei Liang, he thought of Mu Feng next to himself.

His grandfather passed away early, when he was just over one year old. In addition, they didn't live together before, so Ye Qingxi had almost no memory of his grandfather.

After being transported here and spending time with Mu Feng, the word "grandfather" finally took on a concrete form for him, rather than just being a simple phrase.

"Having a grandfather feels like this," Ye Qingxi sometimes thought. "It makes me feel at ease and happy."

Although Mu Feng doesn't seem kind or gentle, and can even be quite fierce at times, Ye Qingxi can clearly feel his care and protection for her.

He wanted to protect him and cherish him as much as possible, so that his growth would be free of any troubles.

So he told him that he brought him back to the Mu family not to make him suffer, so he gave him the shares he had, and so he introduced him to his old friend's grandson, hoping that he could also have friends of his own.

Whether it's psychological, material, or emotional needs, Mu Feng is trying his best to ensure his well-being.

He was keeping his promise very seriously—taking care of him like a loving grandfather.

Ye Qingxi sometimes even felt that perhaps it was because he was not Mu Feng's biological grandson, but rather the grandson of his friend, that Mu Feng was more gentle with him than with his own children.

He still remembers the scene of dinner on the day he first entered the Mu family.

During the meal, Mu Feng cursed Mu Shaowu, Mu Shaoting, and Mu Shaoyan.

But Mu Feng never spoke to him in that tone. With him, he always softened his voice, speaking gently, patiently, tolerantly, and willingly considering his needs.

There were many things he hadn't even thought of, but Mu Feng had already taken care of them for him.

Ye Qingxi was very grateful to him and liked him very much.

Therefore, he wanted to change the poem, to one that was more suitable for Mu Feng, and also for the other old men in the room.

Ye Qingxi spoke slowly, her back turned:

"Even the divine tortoise, though long-lived, has its end."

The flying serpent riding the mist eventually turns to dust.

An old steed in its stall may still aspire to gallop a thousand miles.

Even in their twilight years, heroes still cherish lofty ideals.

The timing of waxing and waning is not solely determined by Heaven;

The blessing of a healthy lifestyle can lead to longevity.

How fortunate I am! Let me sing to express my aspirations.

After reciting the poem, Ye Qingxi turned to Mu Feng and said, "This is what my grandfather taught me. He said that this poem says that even though a great steed is old, it still has the ambition to gallop a thousand miles. A person with lofty aspirations will not stop their ambitions even in old age. The length of a person's life is not only determined by God, but by taking care of one's body and mind and maintaining good health, one can live a long and healthy life."

"So Grandpa, you, Grandpa Pei, Grandpa Kang, and Grandpa Zhong must all be happy and joyful, so that you can always be with us. When we grow up, we can still sit together and eat at Grandpa Kang's house."

Mu Feng didn't expect him to say that. He looked at Ye Qingxi's innocent and cute face and her clear and pure eyes.

He wondered, why did Ye Min leave?

He should really be alive so he can see just how sensible and lovable his grandson is.

Mu Feng raised his hand and affectionately stroked his hair.

"Good! Well said!" Pei Ying exclaimed, "Xiao Xi, you really are..."

He sighed, "Never mind, here, this bracelet is yours, Grandpa will put it on you."

Pei Ying stood up and walked to Ye Qingxi's side, took his little hand, and was about to put it on him.

Ye Qingxi: ? ? ?

Ye Qingxi quickly refused, "Thank you, Grandpa Pei, but I don't want it."

"I told you whoever memorized it best would get it from you. Now that you've memorized it the best, it's yours."

Pei Ying circled around twice, finally wrapping the pendulum around Ye Qingxi's small, delicate wrist. "Study hard. Your Grandpa Mu said before that he was a very good student. You're only five years old, and you can already recite this poem and understand its meaning. I think you'll definitely be a better student than your grandpa in the future!"

Ye Qingxi: ...Ah, is it possible that this is just an illusion?

Ye Qingxi stammered, "I...I didn't."

"You do! You're just too modest! You're not as good as our Xiao Liang in this respect. Look at Xiao Liang, she's never modest."

Ye Qingxi: ...Well, that's true.

Pei Liang was quite proud, like a little peacock.

Pei Ying patted his little hand, "From now on, you can play with Xiao Liang and let him take you around. Don't be so modest. These days, modesty isn't fashionable anymore."

Upon hearing this, Zhong Xiang immediately added, "And my Xiaoyan too."

"And Xiao Cong, now that you all know each other, you'll be good friends from now on," Kang Chi said. "When you grow up, we'll sit here together again, right here in this restaurant, at this table, and eat together again."

His eyes were still a little sore after he finished speaking.

As people get older, their eyes become more sensitive. Kang Chi almost shed tears after hearing what Ye Qingxi said.

I wonder how many more years he has left, and how many more years he can spend with his grandson.

If only we could wait until they grow up, and then sit down together and eat together, that would be wonderful.

Kang Chi looked at Ye Qingxi and took out the red envelope he had prepared beforehand.

When Kang Cong was born, Mu Feng also gave Kang Cong a red envelope.

They celebrated every full moon and first birthday afterwards.

Now that Mu Feng has a grandson, it's only natural that he should give Ye Qingxi a red envelope.

As soon as Kang Chi made that move, Zhong Xiang and Pei Ying also handed out red envelopes to Ye Qingxi.

Zhong Yan didn't understand, and asked her grandfather in a low voice, "Why did you give Xiao Xi a red envelope? Why not Pei Liang and Xiao Cong?"

Grandpa Zhong then lowered his voice and replied, "Because Grandpa Mu gave it to you before, it's only fair that I give it to Grandpa Mu's grandson as well. I already gave Xiao Liang and Xiao Cong theirs."

Zhong Yan nodded, then asked, "Should I give it to them?"

“You don’t need to now,” said Grandpa Zhong. “You and Xiao Xi have only just met. You can give it to him when it’s his birthday.”

Zhong Yan understood.

Grandpa Zhong patted his little head, thinking to himself that his little grandson was quite adorable except for his dislike of studying.

Ye Qingxi was caught off guard and received three red envelopes, which surprised her.

He thought he was just here to meet new friends, but he didn't expect to receive a red envelope as well.

All I can say is that whether it's his cheap father's friends or his grandfather's friends, they're all incredibly generous.

Moreover, he genuinely has a good relationship with his friends.

Thinking of this, Ye Qingxi was quite happy for Mu Shaowu and Mu Feng.

The meal was enjoyed very much.

After the meal, Grandpa Kang handed out gift boxes he had prepared to his old friends. “These were all brought back from abroad by Xiao Cong’s father a few days ago. Since you’re here, I have a few boxes left.”

Mu Feng, Pei Ying, and Zhong Xiang accepted them one by one.

Seeing that Pei Liang was about to leave, he said, "I'm going to the restroom."

He asked Ye Qingxi, "Are you going?"

Ye Qingxi looked at him and vaguely felt that he probably wanted her to go, so she nodded and went with him to the first-floor restroom.

When they reached the bathroom door, Pei Liang pulled him inside and slammed the door shut.

Ye Qingxi: ? ? ?

What are you doing?

Why doesn't he just wait outside?

Why did we have to involve him?!

Ye Qingxi looked at him in confusion, and then he said, "Ye Qingxi, could you give me my grandfather's bracelet? It's a new one he just bought, and he really likes it. I promise I'll give you an even better one later, and I'll let you choose for yourself."

Ye Qingxi breathed a sigh of relief; so that's what it was for.

He raised his hand, quickly took off the bracelet from his wrist, and handed it to Pei Liang. "Here, I didn't want it in the first place. If you hadn't asked me for it, I would have given it to my grandfather and had him return it to your grandfather."

Pei Liang was surprised that he thought that way and said with delight, "You're so kind, thank you."

"You're welcome," Ye Qingxi said with a smile.

Pei Liang took the bracelet, put it in his pants pocket, and then opened the door and walked out.

Just as he stepped out the door, he remembered something and looked at Ye Qingxi, "Are you going to the bathroom?"

Ye Qingxi shook her head.

Pei Liang asked in surprise, "Then you're coming with me?"

"You asked me because you want me to be with you, right?" Ye Qingxi said.

Pei Liang: ...

Pei Liang looked at him and thought he was really smart to have figured that out.

He's much smarter than Kang Cong and Zhong Yan!

No wonder he'd been looking forward to this all night!

“Where did you go to elementary school? I’ll come find you,” he said.

Ye Qingxi blinked. This works?!

"Starry Sky International Primary School".

Pei Liang kept it in mind and put her arm around his shoulder. "Okay, I'll tell my grandpa when we get back, and we can be in the same class."

"Okay," Ye Qingxi replied.

When Kang Cong and Zhong Yan saw him and Pei Liang walking over arm in arm, they looked at each other and asked in confusion: What's going on here?

Why are you putting your arm around each other after just going to the bathroom?

Pei Liang is indeed cunning and treacherous.

It's definitely not because their new friend Ye Qingxi lacks willpower; that's the great demon king Pei Liang!

Who can do anything about the Great Demon King?!

The two sighed, reaffirming Pei Liang's persona as a great demon king.

Ye Qingxi and Pei Liang returned, and Mu Feng and the others prepared to leave.

The group said a brief goodbye and got into the car.

Ye Qingxi took out a red envelope and handed it to Mu Feng, saying, "Grandpa, here you go."

"Take it yourself," Mu Feng said. "They're for you, not for me."

Ye Qingxi thought to herself, "They really are father and son, just like Mu Shaowu."

He said "Oh" and put it back.

Mu Feng, however, noticed something with his sharp eyes: "Where's the bracelet your Grandpa Pei gave you?"

“I gave it to Pei Liang,” Ye Qingxi said. “He didn’t actually want to go to the bathroom; he just wanted to talk to me alone. He said that the bracelet was a recent purchase by his grandfather, and he really liked it, so he asked if I could exchange it for a gift he owed me. I didn’t want it anyway, so I showed it to him.”

Mu Feng nodded, thinking to himself that Pei Liang was a thoughtful and good child, and it was no wonder that Pei Ying liked him so much.

"What do you think of Pei Liang and the others?" he asked Ye Qingxi. "Do you like them?"

Ye Qingxi nodded.

Pei Liang is intelligent, studious, and sentimental; Kang Cong is warm and generous; and Zhong Yan is clever and cute. All three of them are quite likable, and he likes them all.

Mu Feng guessed that was true; Ye Qingxi had been smiling the whole time when they were playing at the ball pit.

Sure enough, children still need to be with their peers.

You can only have fun when you're with people your own age.

"From now on, you can play together."

“Hmm,” Ye Qingxi said. “By the way, Pei Liang said he wants to go to the same elementary school as me. He plans to talk to his grandfather about it when he gets back.”

"Really?" Mu Feng smiled. "Then it seems he likes you quite a bit."

Ye Qingxi was somewhat taken aback upon hearing this.

He has always been somewhat resistant and lacks confidence in being liked by others.

He and Pei Liang had only just met, how could Pei Liang possibly like him?

Ye Qingxi felt that it was probably because he gave Pei Liang the old man's bracelet, and Pei Liang wanted to go to the same school as him to express his gratitude.

He didn't respond to that, but simply smiled, using his smile to let the matter pass.

In another car, Pei Liang was chatting with Pei Ying.

"I told you you'd like your new friend, didn't I? See? I wasn't wrong, was I?" Pei Ying said with a smile.

Pei Liang nodded.

He does indeed quite like Ye Qingxi.

Ye Qingxi is smart, capable, and a good person. She was even willing to give him her grandfather's bracelet.

Thinking of this, Pei Liang reached into his pocket and took out the jade bracelet. "Grandpa, look."

He said happily, "I got it back for you. I know you like this. I told Ye Qingxi that I owed him a gift, and I would buy him an even better one in the future, so he gave this to me."

Pei Ying looked into his grandson's bright eyes.

Under the dim car lights, his eyes were full of joy.

He laughed, hugged his grandson, and kissed him on the forehead.

"Little Liang is such a good girl," he said.

"Xiao Liang, you went to Xiao Xi because Grandpa liked it, wanting to give him a gift in exchange for the bracelet that Grandpa liked. You are such a good child. Grandpa is very happy."

Pei Liang knew he would be happy.

He said obediently, "Then Grandpa will put it on you."

Pei Ying shook her head.

He said, "Xiao Liang, I'm very happy that you did this, but I can't accept this bracelet."

"Why?" Pei Liang asked, puzzled.

"Because this is already a gift from Grandpa to Xiaoxi." Grandpa Pei patiently explained, "Xiaoliang, you should know that when a person speaks, it's like a nail. Once it's spoken, it's nailed in and cannot be easily changed."

"So you need to think carefully before you do anything or make any promises."

“Take this bracelet for example. I said that I would give it to whoever could carry it better. After I said that, I had to be prepared to give the bracelet to Xiaoxi if she could carry it better. If I was unwilling, then I shouldn’t have said that in the first place.”

"Xiao Xi is willing to give you the bracelet because he knows you care about me, you want to make me happy, he understands you, he is a good boy."

"Go and ask for this bracelet; you're a good kid too."

“But Grandpa can’t accept it. If Grandpa accepts it, then Grandpa will be a person who doesn’t keep his word, and then Grandpa won’t be a good Grandpa.”

"You certainly don't want Grandpa to be a bad grandpa, right?"

"Mmm," Pei Liang said softly.

“Then let’s go find Xiaoxi now and return this bracelet to him. Don’t worry, Grandpa will buy himself a better and prettier one in the future.”

“Okay,” Pei Liang replied.

Pei Ying looked up at the driver and told him to turn around and go to Mu Feng's house.

Mu Feng was looking at the report from the previous quarter when he suddenly received a call from an old friend. When he answered, he realized it was Pei Liang's voice.

"Grandpa Mu, I'm at your door. Could you let Xiaoxi come out for a moment? I need to talk to him."

"Okay," Mu Feng replied.

He stood up, went to Mu Shaowu's room, and called Ye Qingxi.

Mu Shaowu asked in confusion, "What is it?"

Ye Qingxi didn't know either.

He shook his head, got out of bed, and walked outside.

Mu Shaowu got out of bed as well, ready to join him.

However, just as he was about to take a step, he saw his father looking over.

Mu Shaowu: ...

Mu Shaowu sat down helplessly. Fine, he wouldn't go then. Anyway, his son would tell him when he got back.
