Chapter 245 Ninety-five

On the first day of the twelfth lunar month, Zhang Hailian gave birth to a daughter in the People's Hospital. When An An came to report the good news, Zhang Weifang gave him two hundred yuan and asked him to take good care of his wife and children. She and Lu Shi would not go to cause trouble.

Zhang Hailian's mother took care of her during her confinement. Zhang's mother didn't know that her daughter had a conflict with her mother-in-law. When she saw that her in-laws didn't come, she even murmured to her daughter:

"What's wrong with your parents-in-law? Why don't they come to see you? Are they dissatisfied with you having a daughter?"

"Mom, I had a fight with them. It's just right that they didn't come. I don't care. As long as I give them the money, it's fine."

When Zhang's mother heard that her daughter had quarreled with her parents-in-law, she quickly asked what happened and then scolded her angrily:

"Hailian, you're truly blinded by greed. How dare you hide such a serious matter as your mother-in-law fainting while serving you from us? No wonder your father-in-law scolded you."

"Mom, she fainted because of her poor health. I can only bear half of the responsibility. You can't put all the blame on me, right?"

"My child, you really think too simply. Without your parents-in-law to help you, you and An An will have conflicts sooner or later. Besides, they are rich and powerful. Can't you be more respectful to them? Look at your sister-in-law and learn from her."

Zhang Hailian didn't take her mother's words to heart. She thought that as long as An An treated him well, it would be enough. She didn't want to take advantage of her parents-in-law.

Time quickly came to 1995. That year, Zhang Nailin was 18 years old and was taking the college entrance examination. Zhang Weiren and Jin Wen were both very nervous, so they came to Zhang Weifang to ask for advice.

Zhang Weifang told them to just let things take their course. As long as the children studied well and had a good attitude, everything would be fine.

Zhang Nailin looks very much like her mother, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, a cherry mouth, and youthful and beautiful appearance. Her academic performance has always been above average, but if she works hard she should be able to get into college.

But starting from March, her grades started to plummet. Jin Wen only found out about this when she attended a parent-teacher meeting. When she got home, she called Zhang Nailin over for a talk and asked her the reason, but there was no result at all.

The college entrance examination is coming soon, and Jin Wen doesn't want to push her too hard, so he just advises her to keep calm.

After the college entrance examination, as expected, Zhang Nailin failed. She hid in her room and cried for a long time.

The next day, Zhang Nailin went out, but when she came back her eyes were swollen. Jin Wen didn't think much about it, thinking that she was still sad about failing the exam.

"Nailin, it's okay. You can apply to a junior college."

Zhang Nailin wiped her tears and said affirmatively:

"Mom, I want to repeat a year. I don't believe I won't be able to get into college."

In order to prepare for the college entrance examination, Zhang Nailin chose to live on campus in the following days. Zhang Shijie is 17 years old and will also take the college entrance examination next year. However, his grades are very good, so he still lives at home.

One day, Zhang Weifang was walking in the park with Xiao Hu when she saw a familiar figure not far ahead. She looked closely and found that it was indeed her eldest niece.

Zhang Nailin was with a boy, and the two were obviously arguing. The boy said loudly:

"Why do you want to repeat a year? Why don't we go to college together?"

"No, you are an undergraduate, so of course I want to study for a bachelor's degree too."

The boy said again:

"Okay, let's break up. I don't accept long-distance relationships."

Zhang Nailin was not to be outdone, she slapped the boy directly:

"Let's break up. If it weren't for your good academic performance, I wouldn't look down on you."

The two parted ways on bad terms and left the park separately. Zhang Weifang was stunned watching from a distance. She didn't expect that the good girl in everyone's eyes would dare to fall in love early.

However, since the two have broken up, Zhang Weifang no longer interferes.

On the other hand, Jin Wen also learned from the teacher that her daughter was in a premature love relationship. She immediately criticized Zhang Nailin severely and told her that she could only fall in love after she was admitted to university.

This year, Zhang Weifen's eldest son Li Yong was also 17 years old. His academic performance was poor and he stopped studying after graduating from junior high school.

After working with his parents at home for a year, the heavy labor was too much for him, so, encouraged by his fellow villagers, Li Yong followed others to work in a restaurant in the provincial capital.

Li Yong's personality is like that of both his father and mother, reckless, impulsive and brainless.

He worked in the restaurant for three months, and his boss deducted his salary for various reasons. Instead of calling the police, he colluded with others to secretly resell everything in the restaurant.

After selling the things, Li Yong was scared, so he took a train overnight to his uncle's house.

When he left home, Zhang Weifen was afraid that he might have something urgent, so she told him Zhang Weiren's home phone number.

As soon as he got off the train, Li Yong called his uncle's house. Zhang Weiren heard the phone ringing in the middle of the night and thought something had happened. But when he listened, he found out that it was his nephew who asked him to pick someone up at the train station.

This was the first time for his nephew to go on a long journey, and Zhang Weiren was worried that something might happen to him, so he went out on a bicycle.

After bringing Li Yong back, Zhang Weiren let him rest first and they would talk about it the next day if there was anything.

After a good night's sleep, Li Yong woke up the next morning. Seeing that he was awake, Zhang Weiren let him wash up and eat.

After everything was packed up, Zhang Weiren asked:

"Li Yong, does your mother know that you're in the city this time? Are you here to look for a job or do you have something else?"

"Uncle, this is what happened..."

After listening to Li Yong's story, Zhang Weiren took a deep breath. He really didn't know whether he should call the police or let his nephew go home. This was the first time he had encountered such a thing.

After thinking for a long time, he called his eldest sister's home:

"Sister, come here for a moment, Li Yong is here."

Without waiting for Zhang Weifang to speak, Zhang Weiren hung up the phone. Along the way, Zhang Weifang was still wondering why Li Yong came to the city out of the blue? He had never heard his sister mention him before.

After she heard about Li Yong's situation, she was even more confused than Zhang Weiren. The two looked at each other, not knowing how to solve the problem. Finally, it was Zhang Weifang who came up with an idea:

"Li Yong, go back home. Remember, no matter who asks you, you can't admit that you sold anything. This matter will rot in your stomach. Besides, I don't think the boss will necessarily call the police."

Li Yong is now scared and worried, so he also wants to go home quickly.

Zhang Weiren sent Li Yong on a long-distance bus, then went home and called Zhang Weifen, asking her to pick him up at the bus station.

He didn't say much about Li Yong's situation on the phone. After all, it wasn't a good thing. However, when Zhang Weifen heard that her son had been sent back, she complained immediately:

"Brother, how could you let him come back alone? He's only 17 years old."

Zhang Weiren didn't say much to her. He just wanted the matter to be over quickly. He was showing leniency by not reporting it personally. After all, Li Yong had really broken the law.
