Lin Meimei listened to Su Qingmeng's life. She seemed to be living in another completely different world, so colorful. At this point, she had given up comparing herself with her because the gap was too big.
"There's nothing special about this. You just have naturally good skin." Zhang Wangyue said. He could tell that she had no worries in her life, unlike himself. When he came here, he didn't have a mother to help take care of the children. He had to do everything by himself. He had aged quickly due to overwork in the past two years.
The waiter brought the menu over. Lin Xiuhe asked for a few bottles of white wine to drink with the brothers, but Lin Xiuyao refused. "Brother, I don't like this. I'll have a bottle of beer."
Lin Xiuhe: "Okay, Xiutong, let's drink." He'd been attending dinners frequently since leaving the army, and now he couldn't get used to not drinking at a meal. "I heard you were moving to Shanghai? You're living well in Beijing, why would you go so far?"
"Business is good in coastal areas now, and the policies are better." Lin Xiuyao did not explain too much, as his elder brother knew nothing about economics.
The dishes were served one after another. Lin Xiuyao picked up some food for Kang Kang. His son was too short-handed and said, "Tell Dad what you want to eat."
The other women felt sour when they saw how good a father he was, wondering why they had never met such a considerate man. Su Qingmeng was so lucky.
Lin Xiuhe was drunk and lectured him with a thick tongue, "You had a good, stable job, but you chose to go into business. You're a Peking University student, it would be great if you could be a cadre. You might be a department-level leader now."
Lin Xiuyao frowned. He could do whatever job he wanted. Lin Xiutong tried to smooth things over. "My eldest cousin is drunk. Come, eat some food, eat some food."
Zhang Wangyue smiled awkwardly, "Your elder brother talks nonsense when he drinks, so don't take it to heart." There was a college student in their unit who was about to become the deputy director five years after graduation and was on the same level as her husband. Lin Xiuhe was unhappy about this recently.
Su Qingmeng also said it was okay. She didn’t take it to heart as she only saw her relatives once every few years. Everyone has their own ideas and they know what they want.
The atmosphere in the second half of the meal was awkward and soon dispersed, and the three of them strolled back to the hotel.
"What's wrong with your elder brother?" Su Qingmeng asked.
"Who knows what's wrong with him when he's drunk? Don't bother with him. Let's go back to the village tomorrow morning." I originally wanted to visit my eldest brother, but I won't go.
It takes two hours to get back to the village from the city. Su Qingmeng didn't get carsick this time. She opened the window and looked at the passing scenery.
The car stopped at the commune and they walked back to the village. The last time they came back was in 1983. Five years have passed and there have been a lot of changes here. Now almost every house has a red brick house.
Their old house had been uninhabited for many years, and the three of them were living with their eldest uncle. Lin Baoguo's home was a cement bungalow with five rooms, grand and spacious. It was built by Lin Xiucheng after he made some money.
The uncle was still in high spirits and warmly welcomed the three of them into the house. They were the only two people at home, as the second brother had moved to the county town. They were reluctant to leave the village, so they stayed.
Lin Xiuyao: "Uncle, I bought you two bottles of Moutai." He knew his uncle liked to drink baijiu. "And Biluochun tea." He bought it on a trip to Suzhou. Third Uncle actually liked tea, but giving him different gifts made it seem like he treated them differently, so he gave them both the same thing: tea and wine.
Lin Baoguo patted him on the shoulder and said that this nephew was a good person. Although he didn't come back often, he never missed the annual New Year gifts. It was a pity that his third brother passed away early and did not enjoy the blessing of his son.
Su Qingmeng also handed clothes to her aunt, "Aunt, this is what I picked out. Try them on and see if they fit." She took out a leather coat and a silk scarf.
The aunt touched it and said, "Oh, this is silk. It's the first time I've seen it. This dress is made of leather, right? It's quite expensive, right? I'm sorry to have cost you so much." She tried it on and found it fit her perfectly.
Luckily, her figure hadn't changed in the past few years; Su Qingmeng was worried it wouldn't fit. "We have a few T-shirts," with a giant panda printed on the chest, "you and uncle can wear whatever you like."
It was almost noon, and the uncle said, "I'll call the eldest and second sons to come back."
After a while, the eldest son, Lin Xiufeng, and the second son, Lin Xiucheng, and their families arrived. The room was full of people. The eldest son was a sophomore in high school. Lin Xiuyao asked, "How are Lin Song's grades?"
The eldest cousin looked embarrassed and said, "Not very good." The child was raised by his grandmother when he was young. The old woman spoiled the child, and he was naughty since he was young and didn't study well. Whenever he wanted to teach the child a lesson, his grandmother would protect him.
Lin Shen, the son of my third uncle, has very good grades and is usually ranked among the top 100 in the key middle schools in the city. This year, the college entrance examination results came out and he was admitted to an undergraduate program. As for this kid in his family, it would be difficult for him to even get into a junior college.
Lin Xiuyun didn't have the courage to take the college entrance exam, but his younger brother did. He was very envious, so he took good care of his child when he went to school. His wife Wang Fen also admired educated people. Both of them were very determined to discipline their children. Tiezhu had good academic performance since he was young.
They came from the countryside and were influenced by their grandfather, so they attached great importance to learning. Unlike my eldest cousin's father-in-law's family, who had stable jobs in the city and did not attach importance to education. They thought it didn't matter whether they got into college or not. This is the difference in concepts.
The eldest cousin continued to inquire with Lin Xiuyao about starting a business. His wife had always disagreed, but in recent years, she had seen her brothers and sisters' lives getting better and better, while his furniture factory had been struggling. Last month, the factory hadn't even paid salaries. This time, he discussed going into business with his wife, and she didn't object.
The Lin family, with the exception of him, thrived. Lin Xiucheng bought a tractor to haul goods and rented a stall at the town market to sell produce. Lin Erlan opened a clothing store in the county seat and has already bought a house. Lin Dalan's family owns mountainous land and grows a new variety of apples, earning several thousand yuan annually. Lin Xiuyun's wife, Wang Fen, is a skilled cook. They followed Lin Erlan to the county seat, opened a small restaurant, and are now preparing to buy a house.
Lin Xiuyao was still practicing Tai Chi, while Lin Xiucheng was earnestly sharing his business experience. The men were chatting animatedly. Second cousin Zhang Qian came over to talk to Su Qingmeng, "Qingmeng, when did you guys come back?"
