Returning to the capital after half a year, Su Qingmeng looked at the city which had not changed much and felt as if she had just left yesterday. The three of them took a taxi back to the courtyard in Dashihu Hutong.
When Lin Xiuyao left, he gave Zhou Hai a copy of the front door and kitchen keys and asked him to come over every week to water the flowers and trees in the yard. So now the yard is lush with grass and trees, and the roses are in full bloom, just like in previous summers.
After putting down the luggage, Lin Xiuyao said to the mother and son, "You go sit in the park for a while. I'll find an aunt to come and clean up."
Su Qingmeng understood and took Kang Kang out to play, giving her husband a chance to put the furniture back in. When they returned with lunch, the house was completely new.
Su Qingmeng called her friends to inform them that she had returned to Beijing and invited them to come to the courtyard for a gathering on their day off. They all agreed.
Lin Xiuyao went to the company to pick up Heidou in the afternoon. Kang Kang hugged the dog and said, "Heidou, I miss you so much. Do you miss me?"
"Woof woof." Hei Dou licked Kang Kang's hand.
"I knew you missed me too." The man and the dog played affectionately.
Su Qingmeng put away her clothes and toiletries and said, "Honey, let's go buy a refrigerator. It's summer now, and it would be too inconvenient without a refrigerator." Their new home in Shanghai is an apartment building, which is safer than the courtyard in Beijing. They did not put the furniture and appliances into the space.
The next day, Lin Xiuyao brought back not only a refrigerator, but also a washing machine and a rice cooker. He said to Su Qingmeng, "Prepare an extra set of appliances just in case. We'll put them there when we return to Shanghai."
On their day off, Lin Xiuyao and Su Qingmeng went to the market early in the morning to buy barbecue ingredients, including beef, mutton, pork, chicken and vegetables. They planned to treat their friends to a barbecue at home today.
After buying the ingredients, I marinated the meat and put it in the refrigerator. Today we had a dinner appointment. Lin Xiuyao went to work in the company. He had been away for half a year and only came back twice. This time he wanted to carefully check the work of the Beijing branch.
After he went to Shanghai, he asked Zhou Nan to go down to the factory every time and make reservations based on the sales situation in Beijing. However, remote command meant that there were things that were not understood, and sales declined. This time he came back to investigate the market situation.
Su Qingmeng was preparing barbecue seasoning at home. Her home had a large yard, unlike the other people who lived in apartments. They usually chose to gather here, or go shopping and eat outside.
Qiu Ling arrived shortly after lunch. She hugged Su Qingmeng and said, "Sister Qingmeng, I missed you so much. It feels like you've been gone for a long time."
Su Qingmeng: "I miss you too."
Qiu Ling came with his girlfriend Wu Yuan, "Hello, Comrade Su." Wu Yuan and Su Qingmeng had only met twice, once before their marriage and once at the wedding, but he often heard Su Qingmeng's name from Qiu Ling, so he was quite familiar with it.
"Hello," Su Qingmeng led the two to the living room, "Sit down, don't be shy."
She talked to Qiu Ling, "Beijing is still the best. I'm so bored in Shanghai." Zhou Wenxi is usually busy with work and only meets with her occasionally. It's different in Beijing. There are many friends there.
Qiu Ling said, "I have lost a lot of fun when you are not around." After all, Su Qingmeng did not have a job, so basically she could be found at home whenever she wanted to. After she left, Qiu Ling had nowhere to go when she wanted to talk to others about her troubles.
Among her friends, Qiu Ling likes to chat with Su Qingmeng the most. She thinks Su Qingmeng is smart, sober, and sensible, and is a good person to confide in.
Su Qingmeng asked quietly, "How is married life? You look pretty good."
Qiu Ling looked calm and relaxed, saying, "From one person to two people, I can discuss things with him, and we can share the housework. It's good to have just the two of us at home."
After a while, He Rui also arrived, "Qingmeng, long time no see, Qiu Ling, you came quite early." She came alone.
"Why didn't you bring Comrade Qian and your daughter with you?" Su Qingmeng asked. She had said on the phone that family members could be brought along.
He Rui: "They went to my in-laws' house today, so I came here by myself." Usually they would go to her in-laws' house to reunite on weekends, but she was always annoyed by her mother-in-law's nagging and her eldest sister-in-law's sarcasm. This time, she used the excuse of having a party with friends to postpone the meeting and let the father and daughter go back.
She asked Su Qingmeng: "How is life in Shanghai?"
Su Qingmeng said: "I don't like the climate in the south. Beijing is better. Shanghai is hot and humid, and it rains frequently. I can't stand it." There is no dehumidifier now, and the house becomes very damp when it rains.
He Rui was surprised: "Sucheng is similar. You grew up in Sucheng as a child. Are you not used to it?"
It was the original owner who grew up in Su City, not her. Su Qingmeng reacted quickly: "I've been working in the countryside in Ji Province and attending university in Beijing, and I've lived in the north for more than ten years. I'm more accustomed to the dry climate in the north."
Moreover, the locals in Shanghai speak in dialect, which Su Qingmeng could hardly understand. However, she did not say this. After all, the original owner was from Sucheng, and the dialect of Sucheng was quite similar to Shanghainese. She was afraid of being exposed.
As they chatted and prepared the ingredients, Qiu Ling heard that Su Qingmeng had returned to attend the writers' exchange meeting. "I know about this. Our publishing house also has recommended spots. I heard that many well-known writers have attended. Sister Qingmeng, I didn't expect you to go too?"
Su Qingmeng asked: "Who are they?"
Qiu Ling said the name he remembered, "It's pretty impressive anyway."
He Rui was envious. When Su Qingmeng chose to become a freelance writer after graduating from graduate school, she didn't understand it. But seeing that Su Qingmeng now has a rich and leisurely life, she can't help but admire her choice.
She felt that Su Qingmeng had always been firm, knew clearly what she wanted, and was also capable of living a good life, which she felt she was inferior to.
