Chapter 28 New Year

The Chinese New Year is coming soon.

Zhang Fang organized the educated youth to have New Year's Eve dinner together. Originally, Su Qing dreamed of spending the New Year with Lin Xiuyao. His eldest brother did not come home for the New Year, so he was alone at home.

The educated youth all gathered together. Su Qingmeng didn't want to be too unique, so she discussed with Lin Xiuyao whether they should spend the night together and have more fun.

Everyone was quite welcoming; we were all young people, so it was easy to get along. Besides, Lin Xiuyao was the scorekeeper, so there was no harm in making friends with him.

The atmosphere during the New Year this year was more relaxed, and the village was bustling. After breakfast, Su Qingmeng placed peanuts, melon seeds, and candies on the table so that anyone who came to visit could give them.

The people who came to the educated youth site were all young people and children. The children who I had met while ice skating before came to the backyard to wish them a happy new year. "Sister Su, Happy New Year." The first one to come was Lin Xiuyao's nephew Tiezhu.

Su Qingmeng gave each of them a handful of melon seeds and two candies, and the children left happily.

Su Qingmeng also went to the house of an aunt she knew well to wish everyone a happy new year. They greeted each other when they met on the way, and everyone had a smile on their face.

At noon, they returned to the educated youth camp and reunited with the others. They went to the village cadres' homes to wish them a happy new year. Su Qingmeng followed the crowd, greeting everyone with a happy new year and smiling. It was only a few lively people who exchanged pleasantries with the cadres.

When Su Qingmeng was at the captain's house, the captain's wife held his hand and asked, "Su Zhiqing, when are you and Yao boy getting married?"

Su Qingmeng lowered her head shyly and said, "Don't worry."

"Oh, you two are not young anymore, get married early and have more children." The captain's wife said with a smile.

Su Qingmeng was speechless. She didn't want to respond to this generation gap, so she had to remain silent, as if she was embarrassed.

Finally, the educated youth were about to leave. The tormented Su Qingmeng refused the captain's wife's attempt to keep him and said goodbye as well.

After coming out, her friends teased her. Tian Ke asked, "Su Zhiqing, when are you getting married?" Su Qingmeng glared at them and said, "It's too early. You don't need to rush to give gifts."

It was already afternoon after the New Year's greetings. Su Qingmeng took a nap and when she woke up, she went to the front yard to discuss the New Year's Eve dinner.

There was food for 12 people in total. The male protagonist Gu Shuyuan and his childhood friend returned to Beijing, Chang Hong also went home, the remaining old educated youth stayed, and the new educated youth just went to the countryside this year and could not go home to visit their families.

Everyone pooled together three fish, two chickens, six pounds of meat, and some vegetables. Those who had food contributed ingredients, while others contributed money and food. Zhang Fang calculated the expenses and tried to make sure everyone's expenses were about the same.

The menu included braised fish, chicken stewed with potatoes, braised pork, mapo tofu, moo shu pork, and cabbage vermicelli. Someone with good cooking skills would cook the dishes, and Su Qingmeng took charge of the braised chicken.

Everyone was busy in the kitchen, and by the time the meal was ready, it was already dark. They took out their kerosene lamps and sat down to eat in the kitchen. The room was bright, but it was small.

Everyone took turns saying auspicious words and then started eating. After the meal, they started chatting. Several educated youth came out to perform, including poetry recitation, singing and storytelling.

Su Qingmeng ate the pine nuts she had brought with her, acting as a cheering audience. Lin Xiuyao was coaxed into singing a song. His voice was deep and melodious, and Su Qingmeng was completely captivated by it.

The party lasted until midnight, and everyone said "Happy New Year" before dispersing. After returning home, Su Qingmeng was still a bit high and not yet sleepy. She suddenly felt like drinking, so she rummaged through the warehouse and found a "Sweet Fruit Wine" building. Su Qingmeng placed it on the farm and entered the space.

She took a jar of plum wine and a jar of grape wine and sat in a rocking chair, enjoying the moon. The moon on the farm was round and big, and the fruit wine was sour and sweet, quite delicious. Before she knew it, she had finished almost a jar.

The wine was strong and Su Qingmeng got drunk quickly. In a daze, she felt something shaking in front of her eyes. "What is that?" she muttered, waving her hands to try to pull the thing away from her eyes. Soon the thing disappeared, and Su Qingmeng closed her eyes with satisfaction.

She didn't see anyone appear on the path to the left of the cabin.

Lin Xiuyao was sorting things out in Taoyuan Township when he discovered that the Taoyuan coins in his backpack had been refreshed after 12 o'clock, so he submitted the transaction. He usually submitted it in the morning, but today the situation was special, so he submitted it at his own convenience.

As a result, after submitting the transaction this time, it showed 'the farmer agreed to go up the mountain'. This was the first time. He clicked to go up the mountain, and his eyes blurred, and he appeared in a bizarre place.

The farm he imagined was a place with more fields, similar to a village, not the one he saw before, with mountains and water, bright lights, and all kinds of strange buildings.

He walked along the road, passed a waterwheel and a small house, and saw a gourd vine with someone in a rocking chair under the vine.

Lin Xiuyao walked closer and saw Su Qingmeng.

He was a little surprised, but not too surprised. In fact, he had noticed that since no one had sent her a package, the new things that appeared from time to time were strange.

Because he runs the black market, he knows what supplies are available here. For example, the woolen sweater she gave him cannot be bought here.

The last time Su Qingmeng came out of the black market, she insisted on leaving on her own. He was worried and followed her. As a result, he found that she had more things when she walked out of the alley. He guessed at the time that since he had such an adventure, others might have it too, but he couldn't be sure.

Lin Xiuyao looked at the person in front of him. Su Qingmeng's cheeks were flushed and she smelled of sweet alcohol. He called her "Qingmeng, Su Qingmeng".

Su Qingmeng vaguely heard Lin Xiuyao's voice. She opened her eyes and saw several boyfriends in front of her. She reached out to grab them and threw herself into Lin Xiuyao's arms.

Lin Xiuyao hugged her, "Little drunkard." Su Qingmeng smiled foolishly, "Boyfriend, sing for me, I like to hear you sing."

Lin Xiuyao was helpless. He hummed a few lines, watched her close her eyes and fall asleep, and put her back in the rocking chair.
