Chapter 5 Educated Youth

It was almost five o'clock when Su Qingmeng returned to the educated youth point. She swept the whole house with a broom. When she came out, Tian Ke and Gao Xiaohuan were fetching water. She hurried over with a bucket to learn from them. After watching Tian Ke do it twice, she explained the key points to Su Qingmeng. Su Qingmeng tried it, but failed to fetch water the first time. After adjusting, she fetched water the second time.

After fetching water, Su Qingmeng returned to her house and found that the female educated youth next door had already returned. She greeted her, "Hello, my name is Su Qingmeng, and I'm your new neighbor."

The female educated youth smiled, and her smile had the air of a lady from a noble family. "Hello, my name is Zhou Wenxi. Let's make progress together in the future."

Su Qingmeng felt that she was not the kind of enthusiastic person, but such a neighbor was more suitable for her. Keeping an appropriate distance was better for someone like her who had secrets.

So the two of them were busy with their own things. After a while, someone called her from outside. Su Qingmeng went out and saw a big man pushing a cart. The cart was full of the furniture she had ordered.

The eldest brother was more enthusiastic than his father. "Su Zhiqing, your furniture has been delivered. Let me help you move it in." Su Qingmeng asked him to put the cabinet in the reserved position and unload the rest outside. The cabinet was heavier, but she could move the others. She stuffed a handful of hard candies into the eldest brother's pocket, and the eldest brother left happily.

Su Qingmeng cut the relatively old large bundle into small pieces of rags and used them to wipe all the furniture.

At this time, Zhou Wenxi had finished boiling water and no longer needed the stove. Su Qingmeng discussed with her that she should use her pot and firewood to make paste first, and then go up the mountain to collect firewood to return it to her tomorrow.

Zhou Wenxi agreed immediately and said that there was no rush for the firewood and she could return it to her after a while. Su Qingmeng could use her stove for the next few days.

Su Qingmeng discovered that while Zhou Wenxi wasn't talkative, she wasn't aloof. She thought they should be able to get along well. In the countryside, it wasn't safe to be alone, so she needed a companion. She wondered if Xiao Zhou could be that person.

Use flour and 3 times the amount of water, simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, until it becomes a paste. Su Qingmeng learned this method when she was a child living at her grandparents' house.

Since there was no other container at the moment, Su Qingmeng poured the paste into her lunch box.

Zhou Wenxi had been watching from the side and said, "You are quite amazing. You can even make paste. I only learned it here." "I also learned it from my grandma. This is the first time I do it myself." Su Qingmeng felt that Zhou Wenxi's family conditions should be good. However, in this era, people with good conditions are more likely to get into trouble. She didn't know what the situation was like in her family.

After the paste was cooked, it was time to paste the newspapers. Su Qingmeng found some old newspapers and put them on the kang. Zhou Wenxi also came over and said, "Let me help you. You don't have to cook today."

Su Qingmeng pasted the stickers on the wall while she passed them to him from below. Together, they quickly finished pasting the stickers on the kang. The ceiling of this room was not high, so they could reach the stickers by standing on the kang.

After pasting the walls around the house and the roof above the kang, Su Qingmeng stepped on a wooden box and pasted the rest of the roof.

After the newspapers were pasted, the whole room was tidy. A layer of newspaper was spread on the kang, followed by the kang mat. The kang mat was a little shorter than the kang, so the wooden box was placed at the end of the kang, so it could not be seen.

After plastering the wall, Su Qingmeng cleaned the aluminum lunch box as she would need it later. For the time being, this was the only thing she had for eating.

"Comrade Zhou Wenxi, the meal is ready, please come over." While they were busy, a gentle voice came from the door, and Su Qingmeng and Zhou Wenxi came out of the house.

The person who came in had pigtails and a delicate appearance, the type of gentle older sister. After calling them, she walked in. Su Qingmeng and Zhou Wenxi locked the door, picked up their lunch boxes, and walked to the front yard together.

There were about fourteen or fifteen people in the front yard, chatting in groups of three or four. Two minutes later, Tian Ke, Gao Xiaohuan and the female educated youth also came over.

"Okay, everyone is here," Hu Aidang clapped his hands, "Come and sit down." The dining table was three small square tables over one meter long, put together to form a long table. The female educated youth sat on this side, and the male educated youth sat on the opposite side.

There were not enough stools, and several male educated youth were squatting. Su Qingmeng thought of the stools he had bought in the backyard, and whispered to Zhou Wenxi, "I forgot to bring the stools."

"I forgot too. Comrade Hu is about to speak. Don't go and get it. Let them make do with it." Su Qingmeng agreed, and the two looked at Hu Aidang.

"Comrades, although you all come from different parts of the country, you are all educated youth of Songjiang Brigade. It is fate that we are gathered here today. I hope you can get along well with each other in the future and make progress together." A dark and thin male educated youth on the opposite side applauded and cheered, and everyone followed suit.

Hu Aidang smiled and continued, "Be quiet, let me say a few more words. My name is Hu Aidang. I have been in the countryside for six years. I am the person in charge of the educated youth camp. If you have any questions, please come to me.

I know that we all come from different places and have different living habits, but I hope that everyone can get along with each other in a friendly manner and try not to have conflicts. We educated youth are a whole, and I also hope that everyone outside can maintain the image of our educated youth.

Okay, let's all introduce our selves and get to know each other. Old educated youth, please go first."

The dark, thin, and trouble-making educated youth was the first to respond. "My name is Ding Qi, and I'm from Ontario. I'm 27 years old and have been working in the countryside for six years. I hope to make progress together with everyone."

"My name is Qiao Qinggang, I'm from Henan, I'm 27 years old, and I've been working in the countryside for five years," said an ordinary-looking, honest-looking male educated youth.

"My name is Ye Siyuan, I'm from Kyoto, I'm 27 years old, and I've been working in the countryside for five years." said a handsome male educated youth.

"My name is Guo Wei, I'm from Shandong, I'm 20 years old, and I've been working in the countryside for two years. I like reading and hope to share my thoughts with everyone."

A male educated youth wearing glasses and dressed quite elegantly said this, smiling and nodding at the new female educated youth. Su Qingmeng felt that he was a little pretentious and did not respond.
