Chapter 12
Xie Que didn't know much about Buddha statues, but the statue in front of him was obviously not a Buddha statue.
The statue consisted of three heads, each with eyes wide open, staring at the visitor with malice. There was a bloody scar on the statue's belly, and inside was not internal organs, but rather a series of lifelike red-eyed snakes.
Xie stared into the snake's eyes, his body unconsciously leaning forward slightly, his brows slightly furrowed, and his lips tightly pursed.
It's hard to describe a snake's eyes, but Xie had never seen such a red, as if it were made of blood. It was dangerous yet beautiful. As Xie stared at it for a long time, he felt as if there was someone in its eyes, which made him involuntarily move closer.
"Hey! Wake up!" When Jing Xiebai opened his eyes, he saw Xie Que reaching out his hand towards the statue. He hurriedly reached out to cover Xie Que's eyes, then tapped Xie Que's brow and cast a spell to wake him up.
Xie Que: “!”
Xie Que suddenly woke up. He pulled off Jing Xiebai's hand and looked at the statue again. There was no scar or snake. The statue's belly was intact, but its eyes were staring at Xie Que, and its expression changed from anger at the beginning to a flattering smile.
"Don't look at it." Jing Xiebai pulled Xie Que over.
"The snake in the statue's belly is a viper. I guess someone somewhere used it to worship an evil deity. Where did Wang Qiang find this person? Why would he give him an evil deity to suppress evil spirits?"
No? What is a viper? Who is Wang Qiang? Why doesn't he understand anything? Xie felt that he couldn't keep up with Jing Xiebai's thinking.
Jing Xiebai noticed Xie Que's confusion and kindly explained, "Have you ever heard of 'Souls of the South! There are flames a thousand miles south, and vipers and snakes are everywhere'? Vipers, also known as pit vipers, are very scary monsters."
Thinking of the snake in the statue's belly, Jing Xiebai's face darkened. "This evil god was made of that viper. The viper's eyes aren't red. I guess they must have forcibly dug out their eyes and stuffed them with human entrails to create the statue it is today."
"The people who worship the evil god have cast a sorcery here. Your spiritual power is not high enough, so you fell into the trap." If Jing Xiebai had not stopped him quickly, Xie would have been eaten by the viper until not even a bone was left.
Jing Xiebai looked at the statue in front of him, feeling confused.
Vipers are extremely ferocious. Is it really possible for ordinary people to use vipers to subdue evil spirits?
Xie Que broke out in a cold sweat after hearing what Jing Xiebai said. If Jing Xiebai hadn't arrived in time, he might have really died here. He subconsciously pinched his fingers, frowning, and staring at the statue with gray eyes.
They entered another dimension through the connecting array, but Xie still remembered that their purpose was to exorcise ghosts, but where were the ghosts? Yes, where were the ghosts?
They walked all the way but didn't see a single ghost.
"You..." Xie wanted to ask about Jing Xiebai's current situation, but when he saw Jing Xiebai's expression, he stopped talking.
There were no lights on in the room, only the dim moonlight streaming in, and the air was filled with dust. Jing Xiebai had approached the door at some point, crouching slightly, one hand gripping the sword, the other gently resting on the doorknob.
Jing Xiebai breathed softly, his face expressionless, as he listened attentively to the sounds outside.
For a moment, everything was silent, but Xie stood there, not daring to move. His heart was beating so fast that it seemed like it was about to jump out of his chest, and his palms were sweating.
Is it a ghost or something unknown?
Only a few seconds had passed, but Xie felt like several years had passed.
The scene was broken by a crisp sound. Jing Xiebai's face changed, and he suddenly pulled down the door handle and rushed out. Seeing this, Xie Que also took out the remaining talisman paper and rushed out.
There was nothing outside, just mountains in the distance and occasionally a few birds flying out from the woods.
Jing Xiebai took two steps up the mountain with a gloomy face.
It had rained not long ago, and the mud was soft and wet, with a series of clear footprints on it.
"He ran away." Jing Xiebai let go of his hand, and the sword in his hand disappeared again.
"Is it the Taoist priest from before?" Xie Que, who came to the mountains to look for evil spirits in the middle of the night, could only think of that Taoist priest.
"Not sure, but there's a high probability." A hint of mockery flashed in Jing Xiebai's eyes. There were not many people who could approach him silently, which showed that this person had a very high level of cultivation.
Jing Xiebai hasn't encountered such an interesting commission for a long time, and he is now very interested in this Taoist priest.
Xie didn't know what Jing Xiebai was thinking. He was looking at the house where the evil god was enshrined in the moonlight.
The house was well designed, a two-story villa with a courtyard. However, it had been abandoned for a long time, and the fish in the pond had died, giving the whole house a run-down feel.
Offering a villa to an evil deity, yet not worshipping it? What kind of logic is that? Xie couldn't quite understand this kind of wealthy thinking.
"Let's go in. The evil spirit is still inside." Jing Xiebai suddenly said. They couldn't catch up with the people. Now they were trapped in the wilderness somewhere. If they didn't hurry up and get rid of the evil spirit, they would have to spend the night here.
Being trapped in a haunted house late at night is a classic opening to a horror movie. Jing Xiebai is not very interested in staying here overnight.
Fortunately, horror movies don’t have a Taoist priest who can exorcise ghosts, nor do they have a male protagonist who is not afraid at all.
Xie Que was much more active in exorcising ghosts. After entering the villa, he began to explore around without even glancing at the evil god on the altar.
The villa was not big, but Xie quickly explored the first floor.
"Go upstairs?" There are still evil spirits in the villa, and it would be much safer if two people act together.
"Okay." Jing Xiebai nodded and withdrew his gaze from the evil god.
"What? Is there something wrong with this evil god?" Xie frowned and turned to look at the evil god.
The statue had been staying there quietly except for the time when it attacked Xie Que at the beginning. Xie Que didn't pay much attention to it. The most important thing now was to find the evil ghost. He couldn't let the evil ghost be snatched away by the Taoist priest again. Who knew if the statue was squatting nearby, waiting to come out and snatch the ghost when they were exorcising it?
"No, I just felt it was novel, so I took a few more glances." Jing Xiebai curled his lips and held Xie Que's hand. "Let's go, let's go. I feel it, the evil spirit is here."
Xie Que's body stiffened and he did not struggle to break free. He walked up to the second floor at the same speed as Jing Xiebai.
The second floor was much messier than the first, with fallen furniture, broken glass, and dried blood everywhere.
The blood trail led to a room at the end of the corridor on the second floor.
Without much hesitation, Xie Que walked towards the room. Jing Xiebai looked at Xie Que's back and smiled softly.
"Be careful, there's a lot of yin energy there." Jing Xiebai followed behind Xie Que and reminded him.
In fact, even without Jing Xiebai's reminder, Xie was aware of the danger of this room.
Because the closer you get, the more you can smell a foul odor coming from the room.
Xie didn't know how to describe the smell. It was like the stench of a bowl of meat that had been left out for several months in the hot summer. It was a mixture of moldy and sour smells, but the difference was that there was also a fishy smell of blood.
Xie frowned, held his breath, and pushed the door open with a "clatter".
"What's there?" Jing Xiebai looked inside curiously, and this look almost made him vomit.
Inside the room was a scarred corpse, its eyes gouged out and thrown casually on the ground, its head nailed shut, its stomach cut open and its internal organs spilled out, its entire body hung with chains, and its mouth stuffed with unidentified objects.
The room was covered in scratches and there were different weapons on the floor, including machetes and chainsaws.
"Ugh—" Jing Xiebai finally couldn't hold it in and walked to the side to vomit. Xie was not in much better condition either, his face was pale, his hands and feet were cold, he stood there wondering whether he should go in or not.
To be fair, Xie didn't want to go in, but reality didn't allow Xie to stay outside and watch without going in.
After adjusting his breathing, Xie took a step forward.
"Bang!" There was a loud noise, but Xie still raised his foot when the door was closed by a gust of wind.
Xie Que: “?”
What is going on?
Although his expression was not very good, Xie pulled out a piece of talisman paper, injected spiritual power into it, and threw it hard at the door.
It had no effect. The talisman extinguished the fire before it even got close to the door and fell limply to the ground.
Xie didn't believe it, so he pulled out another piece of talisman paper, but the result was the same.
Xie Que: “….”
It couldn't be that the talisman paper was useless. It could only be that the evil spirit in this room was too strong, and Xie couldn't cause any harm to him.
"Let me do it." Jing Xiebai felt much better after vomiting and accepted the current situation.
He pulled out a ghost-slaying talisman from the small bag he was carrying. The pattern was the same as the one he gave to Xie Que, but the color was much darker.
Light blue stars gathered around Jing Xiebai's hand, and a stream of blue light flowed down his palm and into the talisman paper. In an instant, the talisman paper seemed to come alive, constantly changing its patterns and becoming increasingly red. Xie couldn't tell if it was the viper's eyes or the talisman paper that were red.
"Kill!" Jing Xiebai shouted and threw out the talisman paper.
The talisman was pasted on the door, and a huge fire started. The heart-wrenching howls of evil spirits could be heard from behind the door.
The fire quickly went out, and Jing Xiebai kicked the door open. The evil ghost behind the door stared at Jing Xiebai fiercely, with tears of blood in its eye sockets without eyeballs.
"I... want... you... to die." The evil ghost ran towards them regardless of anything.
Jing Xiebai dodged the evil spirit while fighting back with talisman paper. The talisman paper quickly turned black when it hit the evil spirit, leaving traces of burns.
"Protect the body and don't let it get burned by the fire." Jing Xiebai shouted at Xie Que and quickly moved to the corner.
"Okay." Xie rushed into the room at the right moment and picked up the chainsaw on the ground.
After making sure the chainsaw was functioning properly, Xie raised it and chopped at the chain.
"Be careful! Don't hurt the corpse!" Jing Xiebai kept an eye on Xie Que while dealing with the evil spirit.
"Let go of my body." The evil ghost opened his mouth wide and pounced on Xie Que.
"Don't run, I haven't had enough fun yet." Jing Xiebai curled the corners of his mouth, and a red rope appeared in his palm and was tied around the evil ghost's neck.
"Uh...ah..." The evil ghost kept struggling, stretching out his hands to touch his own corpse, and his neck was strangled so that a foul-smelling green liquid flowed out.
"I've already told you that I haven't had enough fun yet, why are you running away?" Jing Xiebai's eyebrows were raised, with a sly smile on the corners of his mouth. His face was almost childlike innocence, but the words he said were truly vicious.
"Tell me, who will be taken away first, your body or will I beat you to death first?"
Jing Xiebai's joyful words sounded more terrifying to the evil ghost than seeing the King of Hell.
"Uh...ah..." The evil ghost kept struggling, but the rope was getting tighter and tighter. In the end, the evil ghost only felt his body lighten, and his neck was actually strangled to pieces.
The evil ghost's head fell to the ground, and his eyes no longer shed tears of blood, but green liquid continued to flow out.
"Tsk, boring." Jing Xiebai looked at the evil ghost under his feet and kicked the knife on the ground in annoyance.
Xie Que: “….”
He had just witnessed Jing Xiebai exorcising a ghost. The whole process was full of violence, but Xie felt a little sorry for the evil ghost for a moment.
"Where's the body? Is it safe?" Jing Xiebai composed himself and walked out of the room.
"It's okay." Xie Que moved a little further away from Jing Xiebai. He had just been in a hurry to bring the corpse out, and there was a smell on his body. He was afraid that Jing Xiebai could not stand the smell.
"What's wrong? Are you scared after seeing me exorcise ghosts?"
Jing Xiebai noticed Xie Que's retreat and did not move forward. He leaned against the door frame and looked at Xie Que with a playful expression, his eyes cold and without any warmth.
Tsk, I should have solved it quickly. Now I haven’t found the Taoist priest and my partner may run away.
Jing Xiebai was a little at a loss. He wanted to smoke but held back.
"You..." Jing Xiebai wanted to explain.
"No, I smell and I'm afraid you'll vomit." Xie interrupted Jing Xiebai before he could finish.
"Ah?" Jing Xiebai looked confused for a moment, his mouth slightly open, not knowing what to say.
"No...you..." Jing Xiebai rubbed his hair, not knowing what to say.
"Tsk." Jing Xiebai gave up thinking, stood up and walked towards Xie Que, reaching out to pull Xie Que in, "How could that be? You are my boss, how could I dislike you?"
Thinking of the 100,000 yuan he owed Jing Xiebai, Xie's mouth twitched. He slapped Jing Xiebai's hand away and stared at him expressionlessly.
Jing Xiebai touched his nose and abruptly changed the subject: "It's getting late, let's go. You still have to go to work tomorrow."
Xie Que: “…”
Can you shut up?
