Chapter 37

Chapter 37

After Jing Xiebai came back, the three of them ate something casually and then separated again.

"What are your plans next?"

"Are you recovered?" Jing Xiebai fastened his seat belt and glanced at Xie Que.

"Not bad." Since he started practicing, Xie felt more energetic and refreshed. After a few days of rest, his body has recovered.

"I can't stay at home all the time. Chen Shan should have a lot of evil spirits in his hands now. If we don't catch them quickly, we will lose."

Xie Que actually thought the same as the four major families. He was the only variable in Chen Shan's entire plan. If he was always protected by others and was not given the opportunity to contact them, Chen Shan might take the opportunity to speed up the progress of ghost refining, and then he would lose his value.

"Wait until I have arranged everything before going with me to exorcise the ghost."

Chen Shan tried several times but failed. As long as he and Xie Que went to exorcise the ghost together, Chen Shan would definitely intervene.

"I'll arrange for someone to protect you. If you encounter anything wrong, call me immediately."

"good."

Jing Xiebai was still very busy. He dropped Xie Que off at the downstairs of the community, turned the car around and left.

Normally there are not many people in the neighborhood at this time, but today it is very lively, with high school students in school uniforms coming and going.

"What's going on? Is it a holiday today?" Xie was a little confused and asked the security guard casually when he entered the door.

He has a good relationship with the security guard, and the last time the security guard returned to his hometown, he brought him some local specialties.

"Hey, you don't know yet. Someone died in the nearby school, and all the students are on holiday. My grandson is afraid to go to school there and is clamoring to transfer schools."

"Dead?" Xie frowned. He lived in a school district house. There was indeed a private high school nearby. He heard that the salary and benefits were very high and students had many holidays. How could someone die?

"Why did he die?"

Seeing how curious he was, the security guard also started talking.

"You don't know, that school is haunted, several people died there!"

"Is it true? Why is it haunted?" Xie Que always heard rumors about the school being haunted when he was in high school, but they were eventually proven to be fabricated by students.

"Did anyone see it with their own eyes?"

"That's not the case, but a few years ago, a female student hanged herself in the school. I heard she was beaten to death, and even when her parents complained, they didn't give any explanation. And then, yesterday, those who beat her up were all found hanged in the bathroom!"

"If this isn't a haunting, what is it? Oh, this is retribution!" The security guard is over 50 years old and is most afraid of these supernatural things.

"What did the police say?"

"What did you say?" The security guard's expression changed and his voice dropped. "It was suicide!"

"Then what's the ghost story?"

Seeing his disbelief, the security guard grew anxious. "You don't know, when this school was first built, they withheld wages, driving migrant workers to death! How could he possibly admit to a haunting just to make money?"

Xie frowned. He did know that the school had withheld wages and forced migrant workers to death, but he didn't believe in the ghost story. Students have strong yang energy, so what kind of ghost would dare to cause trouble in school?

The security guard was still talking about this, but Xie didn't want to listen any further and just made up an excuse to get away.

After returning home, Xie thought more and more that it was strange. He sent a message to ask Jing Xiebai, and he also said that the school was not haunted, but how come those students just happened to commit suicide collectively?

Xie, however, didn't believe a bully could suddenly come to his senses and die in apology. Could there be a murderer lurking nearby? He'd have to be careful when he went out recently.

He didn't dwell on it anymore. The next afternoon, when he went out to eat, he went to check it out to make sure it wasn't haunted. When he entered the complex, the security guard noticed Xie Que and quickly called out to him.

"Hey! Help me with something!"

"Hmm?" Xie walked to the window of the security room and looked at the security guard through the glass. "What's wrong?"

Seeing Xie Que approaching, the security guard quickly opened the window and handed him a slice of watermelon. The cold air from the air conditioner blew out from the gap, bringing a hint of coolness.

"Oh, my grandson left his homework at school. He didn't dare to get it himself, so he asked me to help." A trace of embarrassment flashed across the security guard's face, and he seemed to feel embarrassed for bothering Xie.

"Aren't you afraid of ghosts?" Looking at the security guard's behavior yesterday, he must have believed in his heart that those people's deaths were caused by evil spirits. He probably didn't dare to pass by that area in recent times. Why did he take the initiative to go to school today?

"Alas, my grandson's class is far from the place where the dead man died. I'll hurry over before it gets dark. Can you help me keep an eye on him? It'll only take a moment."

The security guard has been working here for more than ten years. His son is not very capable, and he needs this salary to support him in his old age. He is afraid that if he leaves, he will be reported by others and lose his job.

"Okay." Xie walked into the security room, took the remote control from the security guard, sat down on the chair, waved at the security guard, and signaled him to hurry up, "Go early and come back early, don't dawdle."

"Thank you." The security guard smiled at Xie Que, with wrinkles on his face, looking a little scary under the cold light.

"Go ahead." Xie looked at his smile and felt a little uneasy. He urged him, "If you don't go now, it will be dark. Be careful!"

"Okay." The security guard took off his hat and walked out without any further delay.

The neighborhood was deserted, with few people coming in or out. Xie, however, felt bored after staring at it for a few minutes. With nothing better to do, he stood up and walked around the security room a few times.

The room was very small. The security guard ate and slept in it. The bed was only separated from the security room by a tattered curtain.

However, Xie noticed a patrol roster posted on the wall. There was no security guard's name on it, but a stranger's name, which made him curious.

Isn't patrolling and guarding the gate the same person? This community needs so many people. Xie thought as he turned around and tried to eat the watermelon.

"Grandpa!" A very weak voice came from behind the curtain.

Xie was stunned, his eyes lingered on the curtain for a moment, his face full of hesitation.

Is he hallucinating?

Xie rubbed his ears and took two steps forward.

"grandfather!"

There were indeed voices, and he wasn't hallucinating. But the security guard didn't say his grandson was inside.

"Your grandfather is not here, what's wrong with you?" Xie was some distance away from the curtain and didn't dare to get too close.

"Uncle, I want to drink water." The child's voice was hoarse. If it weren't for the quietness around him, Xie probably wouldn't be able to hear it at all.

"Just wait." Xie breathed a sigh of relief, turned around, poured a glass of water, lifted the curtain and walked in.

The room was very small, with only a bed and a bedside table. The quilt was neatly folded beside the bed, but there was no one on the bed.

"You..." Before Xie Que could finish his words, he felt someone hit him on the back of his neck. His vision went dark and he passed out.

When Xie woke up, he found himself tied to a chair. It was dark all around, without a trace of light.

Where is this? Am I kidnapped? Xie tried hard to recall what happened before he lost consciousness. He only remembered that he was knocked unconscious after he opened the curtain.

His hands were tied behind his back, the rough rope rubbed his skin, and the knot was tied very cleverly, but every time Xie tried to break free, the rope became tighter.

"Fuck." Xie cursed softly, and moved his chair back. The sharp friction sound hurt his ears.

With a "click", a light came on.

With the help of the light, Xie saw that he was tied up in a classroom. The air was filled with a strong smell of blood. He looked up and noticed that there were five corpses hanging from the ceiling, surrounding him in the middle.

The weather was hot, and the body had already rotted. The school uniform clung to it, making it hard to see its original appearance. The corpse fluid dripped continuously, forming small puddles. The foul odor mixed with the smell of blood made Xie Que feel nauseous.

Before he could see clearly, the lights went out again.

Xie stamped his feet and the lights came on again.

This time, he noticed the bodies were much lower than the previous time, practically standing on the table. Xie looked up and quickly glanced at the faces of the corpses. Each face was covered in strange runes painted in blood, making it impossible to tell who was who.

Xie wanted to continue watching, but the lights went out again. This time he didn't rush to speak, but calmed down.

He was kidnapped and brought to the school. His body must have been taken away when the accident happened a few days ago. It is impossible for it to still be in the school. Thinking of this, Xie bit his lower lip hard and didn't let go until his mouth was full of the taste of blood.

The scene before my eyes did not change. It was not an illusion. The five corpses in front of me were real. I just didn't know whether they were ghosts seeking revenge or were murders in the heat of the moment.

Xie calmed down. He remembered that Jing Xiebai had arranged people to protect him. If he disappeared, Jing Xiebai would definitely get the news. He just needed to make sure he was not dead before Jing Xiebai arrived. There was a locator in his earrings, so he didn't have to worry about him not being able to find him.

"Huh..." Xie heaved a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to stamp his feet again, he heard something fall. He subconsciously opened his hand and caught the object.

It's a ball-shaped object, sticky and connected by a string.

What is this? Xie swallowed and pinched it carefully.

The touch felt very strange. It was still pitch dark in front of him. The only thing he could touch was this spherical object. Xie suddenly began to feel anxious. In the quiet classroom, the only sound that could be heard was his rapid heartbeat.

He needed light, darkness would devour his rationality, and the fear of the unknown made him tremble unconsciously.

Xie calmed himself down and was about to stamp his feet when the darkness in front of him faded a little.

Moonlight appeared, dimly illuminating the classroom. By the moonlight, Xie saw the corpse had come right in front of him, almost touching his face.

The corpse had its mouth wide open, and corpse fluid was flowing out of its mouth, dripping onto Xie Que's legs.

Xie forced himself to look up and saw that there were no eyeballs in the eye sockets of the corpse.

eyeball!

What he just picked up was an eyeball!

Xie was startled, and the eyeball in his hand was crushed. The corpse smiled, seemingly pleased with his reaction, and moved closer to him with a grin.

"No!" Xie Que suddenly widened his eyes, took a few steps back with difficulty, but was tripped by the table and fell to the ground.

Seeing him fall, the corpses gathered around him. The eyeless corpse tightly grasped Xie Que's neck. The upper half of its face was expressionless, but its mouth was wide open, revealing a hint of pleasure.

"Get...out of here..." The corpse was very strong, but Xie's face turned red. He twisted on the ground, trying to break free.

The corpse pressed down on Xie Que's body, strangling his neck. After struggling for a few seconds, Xie Que's brain began to lack oxygen, and his vision became blurry. Just before he passed out, he suddenly saw someone standing at the door, watching the corpse strip him of his life.
