Gu Bai opened the bag and took out everything inside; it turned out to be food.
There are two bottles of honeysuckle dew, two cans of yellow peaches, and two cans of oranges.
"Son, who brought these cans over?" Gu's father asked, looking at Gu Bai who was sitting on the stool in a daze.
“It was given to me by an older sister,” Gu Bai replied softly.
"Which older sister? She's such a kind person, giving you so many nice things." Father Gu continued to look at him curiously.
“It was given to me by a fellow educated youth.”
"Oh, a former educated youth? Did you give me a return gift?"
At this moment, Gu Bai looked up at his father, unsure of what to say in return.
"Dad, I'll give her the money next time I see her."
"Yes, that's right."
One morning, Gu Bai sat at the door looking at his high school textbook.
When Su Tian passed by his house, she saw him sitting there reading a book, so she asked, "Little brother, want to go beachcombing?"
Gu Bai nodded, put the book inside, then picked up a wooden bucket and a small hoe, and quickly walked to Su Tian's side.
"Hey, go to the door and grab a straw hat to wear, you don't want to get sunburned."
So, after putting on the hat, Gu Bai followed behind Su Tian, secretly chuckling to himself from time to time.
The two arrived at the seaside, where a gentle sea breeze caressed them.
It was Su Tian's first time going beachcombing, but she was lucky. With a small hoe, she dug out a big clam.
Gu Bai was stunned by what he saw, and then he started searching as well, just like Su Tian.
But Gu Bai just couldn't find him. This happened several times in a row, and he was getting a little anxious, his face turning slightly red.
Seeing this, Su Tian smiled and walked over to teach him step by step. Gu Bai felt the warmth of Su Tian's hands, and his heart couldn't help but beat faster.
Before long, Gu Bai finally dug up his first clam and laughed excitedly.
Su Tian smiled along, her eyes curving into crescent moons.
As the sun rose higher, the two had a bountiful harvest, a bucket full of clams.
For several days in a row, the two wanted to go beachcombing together, and they only stopped this activity when the summer harvest was approaching.
One weekend when Gu Bai was in his second year of high school, he decided to walk home because he couldn't wait for the oxcart.
On his way back, he was robbed by several thugs.
Just as he was about to resist, a jingling sound came from behind him.
They all glanced back, and the thugs' eyes lit up.
Gu Bai was furious when he saw them staring at Su Tian with such filthy eyes.
Before he could even make a move, he heard Su Tian say in a cold voice, "What are you guys doing? Little brother, are they robbing us?"
"Heh heh, so what? We'll rob you too later, not only of your money but also..."
Gu Bai couldn't hold back any longer, so he picked up his backpack and threw it at them to stop them from saying anything more.
"Ouch……"
Before they could finish shouting, Su Tian started to act. She picked up several sticks from the ground and whipped the thugs hard, making them scream and run away in all directions.
"Hmph, you guys got away fast. Little brother, come here, get in the car."
Gu Bai watched as Su Tian chased away those people with just a few sticks, and he felt increasingly happy. He didn't know there was a saying: "Love arises without knowing its origin, and deepens with each passing moment."
Gu Bai picked up his backpack and obediently sat on the back of Su Tian's bicycle. Su Tian asked him as she rode, "Why did you walk back? Don't you have a bicycle at home? Why don't you take this one? I have another one."
"Stand here and don't move. Be a good girl and wait for me to come back, okay?"
Gu Bai obediently waited in place, while Su Tian darted into the bushes.
Then, he was stunned when he saw Su Tian push out a nearly new bicycle.
"Here, take this bicycle. It's registered in my hometown, so you can ride it."
Su Tian generously handed the bicycle to Gu Bai; after all, it was a trophy she'd acquired while dealing with scumbags and bitches.
"What are you daydreaming about? Get on the bike. The key is still in the lock, remember to take it out."
Thus, Gu Bai acquired his first bicycle, which was given to him by Su Tian.
He didn't know how she got the bicycle out, nor did he know why there was a bicycle in the bushes as soon as she went there.
All he knew was that Sister Su Tian was really good to him, so he got on his bicycle and followed closely behind her.
"We've arrived at the village. I'm heading back now. You should head back early too. Goodbye."
Gu Bai braced his feet against the bicycle until Su Tian was out of sight before riding home.
After returning home, Gu's parents questioned him again. When they learned that it was given by the educated youth sister again, the old couple vaguely guessed what was going on.
But they were afraid of guessing wrong and hurting their pure friendship, so they had no choice but to pretend not to hear and let them do as they pleased.
One day, Gu Bai watched from afar as Su Tian walked with a young man. His heart clenched instantly, and he felt a slight pain.
He silently comforted himself, thinking that she was probably one of the educated youth from the same settlement, and it was normal for them to go to and from work together.
For several days in a row, he saw them walking together, chatting and laughing, and he couldn't even fool himself.
Only then did he realize that he had different feelings for her.
He had fallen in love with her, so much so that seeing her with other men made him feel a pang of jealousy.
He wanted to go up to her and ask if she had a boyfriend, but he didn't dare. He was cowardly and he backed down.
He thinks about Su Tian day and night, while doing his homework, while sleeping in his dormitory, and even while going to the toilet.
In order to stop thinking about Su Tian, he reduced the number of times he went home.
But he couldn't do it; he kept thinking about Su Tian, and tears started to fall as he thought about her.
He had no choice but to give up on going home less often, and he also cancelled his accommodation reservation.
He rushed home every night just to see Su Tian, and then got up early the next morning to go to school.
The first thing he did after school in the afternoon was to see Su Tian.
He hid in a corner of the educated youth settlement and saw Su Tian before riding his bike home.
Fortunately, the village is only half an hour away from the school by bicycle, so Gu's father agreed to let him ride his bicycle to and from school every day.
This situation continued until he finished his second year of high school, which is considered high school graduation.
On the first day of his summer vacation after his second year of high school, he got up early, picked up his basket and quickly went up the mountain, where he sat on the grass waiting for Su Tian to come up.
To his surprise, he witnessed the scene he dreaded again: he saw that man following behind his sister once more.
There were several boys and girls with him, but he completely ignored them.
He hid secretly, waiting for them to disperse and leave.
He quietly followed Su Tian, and when they reached a secluded grove, Su Tian suddenly made her move.
She pinned Gu Bai against the tree, and only then did she realize it was Gu Bai.
"Hey little brother, is that you? What are you doing sneaking up behind me?"
