Chapter 41 Exam Results Are Out

Su Tian returned to the educated youth settlement and had barely lain down when she heard the village loudspeaker blare out, the brigade leader's booming voice:

"Hello, hello, hello..." He still hadn't started speaking after several "hellos".

Su Tian couldn't help but laugh; this captain was really funny.

After a few seconds of pause, Su Tian heard the brigade leader's voice coming from the loudspeaker again: "Notice, notice, those who registered for the teacher exam with me last time, please remember to come to the brigade's primary school at nine o'clock tomorrow morning for the exam. Announcement one more time..."

The brigade leader's voice kept repeating over the village, and only after it had been repeated three times was the loudspeaker turned off.

"Su Tian, you have an exam tomorrow. Are you confident?"

"I think: since we are going to teach elementary school students, the questions that the leaders give us should not be difficult. What is difficult is that the questions may be wide-ranging, including things like astronomy and geography."

You know how kids are, so clever and mischievous, they'll always have lots of questions for their teachers. You've already finished high school, so elementary and middle school knowledge shouldn't be a problem for you."

"Hehe... I was just a little nervous. The other people at the educated youth settlement seemed very calm and composed, like they had it all figured out."

"Have confidence in yourself, you can definitely do it!" Su Tian encouraged Ma Chunling loudly.

The next morning, the sun rose silently.

Su Tian got up at seven o'clock and cooked herself a bowl of noodles with two eggs in it. She ate it bite by bite after it was cooked.

At 8:30, Su Tian took a pen and paper and asked Ma Chunling to walk to the brigade primary school together.

When they arrived at the elementary school, they heard a middle-aged man wearing glasses say, "Those taking the Chinese teacher exam should sit on the left, and those taking the math teacher exam should sit in the back."

Su Tian wanted to become a Chinese language teacher, so she sat on the left. Ma Chunling was interested in math, so she sat on the right.

Su Tian looked around. Chen Gang, that scumbag, was also taking the exam to become a Chinese language teacher, along with other people from the educated youth settlement, making a total of five of them taking the exam. Ma Chunling, Zou Daying, and another young man from the village were taking the exam to become math teachers.

At nine o'clock, the exam began, and the entire examination room fell silent. The only sound was the scratching of pens on paper, like silkworms chewing mulberry leaves.

The educated youth who once toiled in the fields are now gathered in this simple yet hopeful examination hall.

Su Tian looked around. The classroom walls were somewhat mottled, still bearing traces of time and old slogans.

The classroom was filled with old but neatly arranged desks and chairs, and two examiners sat on the podium, their expressions focused and serious.

Afterwards, Su Tian looked at the test questions that had just been distributed. She quickly skimmed through them: the questions were all quite general, covering vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure, literary knowledge, and classical Chinese reading comprehension. Most of these topics were things she had learned in junior high school.

There were also several questions on astronomy and geography, all of which were questions we had already learned in junior high school.

Finally, there is the writing section, a set topic: "The Spirit of Hard Work and Perseverance," requiring candidates to write an essay on this topic. The content should incorporate current social context, values, and educational themes.

After reviewing the entire exam paper, Su Tian felt confident. She then lowered her head and began to write furiously.

She looked focused and serious, and her writing was skillful and accurate.

Her long hair was braided into two trendy floral braids, with a few strands falling beside her cheeks.

Her eyes were clear and firm, and the pen in her hand glided smoothly across the paper.

Chen Gang, who was sitting behind Su Tian, watched her do one problem after another.

Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, and he would sometimes bite his lip and sometimes sigh softly.

His brows were furrowed, his eyes were fixed on the exam paper, and his pen kept writing on the paper.

He cursed inwardly: What kind of person set these test questions? Some of them he didn't know the answers to, and some he looked like he had seen before but had forgotten the answers to.

Back in high school, he spent all his time trying to win Su Tian over. And now the test is on knowledge he learned in junior high; who remembers that much?

Ma Chunling seemed a little nervous. She pursed her lips slightly, stared intently at the exam paper, and her pen slid across the paper from time to time. Her shoulder-length short hair swayed gently in the breeze.

Sometimes she would furrow her brow slightly, as if racking her brains over a difficult problem; other times her eyes would light up, and she would quickly write down the answer.

Zou Daying, standing next to Ma Chunling, appeared particularly impatient, scratching her head occasionally and poking her cheek with her pen, without writing a single word for a long time.

This is terrible! If the scores come out, won't the whole village know? Wouldn't she have wasted her time in high school?

Time ticked by, and two hours later, Su Tian was the first to stop writing. She carefully checked the test paper and, finding no problems, handed it in on the podium ahead of schedule.

Seeing this, the others also sped up their problem-solving.

After handing in her test, Su Tian waited outside the classroom for the others to return to the educated youth settlement together.

As the bell rang signaling the end of the exam, they slowly put down their pens. Some wore complex expressions, while others showed relief after tension…

"Su Tian, you finished the questions so fast! I was so nervous when I saw you hand in your paper," Ma Chunling said casually.

"Haha... the test wasn't difficult, so I handed it in early," Su Tian said proudly.

"Let's go back. Let's eat and rest first, and wait for the exam results to come out this afternoon. Now we can only leave it to fate," Ma Chunling said helplessly.

The two chatted as they walked towards the educated youth settlement. Along the way, they encountered other educated youth who had finished their exams, and they asked each other about how the exams went.
