Today is another good day because it's the weekend, and Su Tian doesn't have to go to school.
She got up very early so she could eat stir-fried clams and snails.
These snails have been purging sand for over a day now, so they can be washed and stir-fried and eaten.
She first started a fire to cook white porridge, then took the snails to the well to fetch water and washed them several times. After cleaning them, she brought them to the stove.
I went to the vegetable garden and picked a few small red chilies, washed them, chopped them, washed the pot, heated it, added oil, and then added garlic and chilies.
After stir-frying for a few seconds, I added the snails and stir-fried them until they all opened. Then I added other seasonings, stir-fried them a few more times, and then took them out.
At seven o'clock, the people at the educated youth settlement had just gotten up. They had to start work at eight o'clock, so they had to get up early.
"Lu Xiaochunling, come and have breakfast."
Lu Xiao quickly ran over and said, "These are the snails we caught the other day, right?"
It smells so good! I'm amazed at how good Southerners are at eating! I've never seen this in the capital.
"That's right, because we can catch and eat anything that flies in the sky, runs on the ground, crawls on the ground, or swims in the water."
"Su Tian, why are you up so early? I couldn't sleep because of any noise during the holiday, so I got up so early," Ma Chunling said.
"Go brush your teeth quickly, and come eat after you're done."
As soon as Su Tian finished speaking, they immediately ran to brush their teeth.
Su Tian prepared the porridge and sat quietly to the side, waiting for them.
She saw that scumbag Chen Gang staring at her again, and she glared back fiercely.
Chen Gang turned around and went back to his room in fear. He Hua saw Chen Gang's flustered appearance.
She also looked towards Su Tian, who was staring at her expressionlessly. Frightened, she quickly ran back to her room.
After washing up, Lu Xiao and Ma Chunling ate porridge in their bowls.
The other former educated youth who witnessed this scene were speechless with envy.
They didn't dare to cause trouble, nor could they. Su Tian was someone who could even beat Chen Gang senseless; who would dare to mess with her?
With just one glance from her, no one dared to say anything; her temperament was quite different from her appearance.
"These snails are really delicious. I feel like I made the right decision to come to the countryside."
Do you still have any rice? I can give you mine; I've been eating here for several meals now.
"Just give me a little more when the grain is distributed next time."
"Su Tian, why did you decide to stir-fry it? It reminds me of last year when we educated youth went to fish it out and spit out the sand."
We just boiled it in water, and after it was cooked, we picked it out with our hands to eat, but it had no taste at all.
"So none of them went fishing this year. I wouldn't have gone either if you hadn't called me," Ma Chunling said while eating.
“If we eat it this time, they’ll smell the aroma and might even go fishing for it when they’re not working,” Lu Xiao continued.
"Possibly," Ma Chunling nodded in reply.
While eating, Su Tian watched them and said that around 50 minutes in, Lu Xiao quickly left.
He's going to work again, this time to plant sweet potatoes.
After Su Tian and Ma Chunling finished eating, they cleaned up the table.
Ma Chunling went back to her room to catch up on her sleep, while Su Tian prepared to go deep into the mountains to see if there were any big guys.
She wanted to practice her skills with the others; it had been a long time since she had. So, she carried her basket on her back, took her wood-chopping knife, locked the door, and headed up the mountain.
"Old Song, what should we do? We've been searching for two days and two nights, but we haven't found a single cave or even a single person."
"Were those two bastards not telling the truth?"
"Probably not. We interrogated them for a whole day and night, and the people they contacted in the mountains were all people from the mountains who came down."
Song Zhe and Lu Yu were in the deep forest behind Songjia Village, a place the locals called 'Tiger Mountain'.
Legend has it that large animals often roam in that forest, and the local villagers dare not enter that desolate forest.
"Let's look again. There are no other clues," Song Zhe said calmly.
It took them two days to explore even a small part of the area.
The forests stretched out in one continuous stretch, forming a mountain range.
The towering trees blocked out the sun, and only a few weak rays of light could filter through the gaps in the leaves, like hope struggling in despair.
The undergrowth was so dense that it was almost impossible to pass through, and the thorns were as sharp as steel needles, mercilessly scratching every animal that tried to cross them.
Song Zhe and Lu Yu were covered in large and small wounds. Thorns tore through their skin, leaving bloodstains, and their rations were almost gone.
To avoid alerting the enemy, the two dared not send a large force to search the mountain, fearing that they might cause chaos and harm the villagers by coming down the mountain with guns.
"These bastards, in order to get our border map, investigate our internal border information, and with so many guns and ammunition, they actually ran to this place to hide. I wonder how many of them there are?"
"Let's look again. If we can't find it, we'll go back first," Song Zhe replied.
They only got a few clues, saying that the person who contacted them was hiding in a cave on Tiger Mountain. Tiger Mountain is so big, where is that cave? Those two guys aren't having an easy time either.
At this moment, Su Tian was on the other side of the mountain where Song Zhe and the others were.
She walked along, searching for suspicious traces.
Along the way, she kept discovering that the ground beneath her feet was soft, decaying leaves and swamps hidden within them; if she wasn't careful, she would be mercilessly swallowed up.
Moreover, there are many thorns around, and you could easily get pricked if you're not careful.
She was pricked on the neck and left a small bloody mark. Afraid that the rope of the gourd would be cut, she touched the gourd with her hand that had been wiping the blood.
