Chapter 28 Going Home for Dinner
Zhang Pengfei was about to speak, but then he thought better of it. Chen Jingyang was much better at making girls happy than he was. Now, Hua Hua was more affectionate towards him than towards him. He should keep the "lazybones" impression. He couldn't let Chen Jingyang be too perfect in Hua Hua's eyes!
After the two finished their meal, Chen Jingyang was still asleep.
Zhang Pengfei thought for a moment, put the food into a thermos, and before leaving, he put a note on the bedroom door: The food is in the thermos!
After pasting the paper strip, they felt it was too small and worried that Chen Jingyang might miss it if he wasn't paying attention, so they replaced it with an A4 sheet of paper.
After dropping his sister off, he went to school.
There aren't many courses in the senior year, but the bar exam is just around the corner. Although it's only the beginning of the semester, everyone's enthusiasm for studying is not weak at all.
According to Zhang Pengfei, apart from a few students who plan to start working after graduation, most are preparing for postgraduate entrance exams and civil service exams. After all, large law firms have high requirements, and getting a job is the ultimate goal for many.
In fact, if nothing unexpected had happened at home, Zhang Pengfei had originally planned to take the postgraduate entrance exam.
Around 10 a.m., the counselor called a meeting to explain the teaching arrangements for the previous semester, focusing on matters such as the selection of graduation thesis topics and thesis proposals. After the meeting, the counselor called Zhang Pengfei to the office alone.
The counselor also came from a rural background and was only a few years older than Zhang Pengfei. After graduating with a master's degree, he stayed on at the university and had a very good personal relationship with Zhang Pengfei.
"Sit down. How are you, Auntie? Are you feeling better?"
"They are currently in rehabilitation and it may take some time before they can take care of themselves."
The counselor handed him a glass of water and comforted him, "That's good. As long as you're alive, you can always make a comeback. Just get through this period. By the way, do you have enough money?"
With Chen Jingyang around, the money is definitely enough. Zhang Pengfei nodded: "The expenses at this stage are much less than in the ICU, so money isn't a big problem."
The counselor breathed a sigh of relief and remarked, "We were so grateful for Chen Jingyang's donation; otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do. My biggest takeaway now is that money really doesn't last long."
He smiled bitterly: "Look at me, after paying the mortgage, gas, phone bills, and utilities every month, I can't even afford to go to the movies with my wife. I have to save money for baby formula in advance. Sigh."
Zhang Pengfei could only laugh awkwardly at this. Being able to buy a house and get married in Beijing, a place where land is incredibly expensive, through his own abilities already made him one of the best.
"Today I mainly want to ask about your future plans. Are you planning to take the postgraduate entrance exam? I know your family is facing some difficulties right now, but this is related to your future, so I hope you will consider it carefully. Personally, I suggest you take the exam; in the long run, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks."
Zhang Pengfei sighed. The water in the disposable cup was steaming, but the steam dissipated as soon as the air conditioner blew it out. It was very fragile, just like him.
"I definitely won't take the exam for the next two years, but who knows what will happen in the future." Zhang Pengfei forced a smile: "I want to make money as soon as possible, stabilize my situation first, and then take it one step at a time."
This answer was exactly what the counselor expected. Putting himself in the counselor's shoes, he wouldn't be able to stay on campus calmly if the same thing happened to him.
"Alright, there's plenty of time in the future anyway. Since you want to start working sooner, I have some good news for you."
The counselor smiled and said, "The district court has allocated several internship positions, and I've secured one for you. Go after the bar exam."
Zhang Pengfei's eyes lit up, but quickly dimmed. He had to report all his movements to Chen Jingyang and get Chen Jingyang's approval before he could go!
"I... I'll think about it."
The counselor was surprised: "What's there to consider? In our law program, who isn't desperate to intern at the courts or procuratorates? It's such a great opportunity to expand your network!"
He couldn't understand: "As long as you stay in this circle, you'll inevitably have to deal with them in the future. Don't you know how much convenience this relationship will bring you in the future?"
Zhang Pengfei certainly knew!
Knowing this is one thing, but last time he only secretly did some tutoring, Chen Jingyang almost punished him to death. He learned his lesson and wouldn't let Chen Jingyang get away with something as important as interning at the court!
"I know, counselor. Please give me some time. Of course I want to go, but there are some things I haven't arranged yet, so I don't dare to say it so definitively right away."
Zhang Pengfei had no classes in the afternoon, so he waited for Huahua to get out of school early at the school gate.
After leaving the counselor's office, he was restless. He wanted to call Chen Jingyang to talk about the internship, but he felt it would be better to talk about it in person. After hesitating for a while, he finally decided to talk about it in bed that night, as Chen Jingyang would have a higher chance of agreeing!
The counselor is right. As long as he remains in the legal field, interning at the court is an excellent opportunity that he doesn't want to miss!
When I got home, Chen Jingyang wasn't there, but there was an extra line on the A4 paper on the door: Thank you, baby, the food was delicious!
Fortunately, Hua Hua is still illiterate and doesn't know what's written on the paper. Zhang Pengfei was so scared that he quickly tore it off and decided never to leave a note for Chen Jingyang again!
This person had a social engagement that evening and sent Zhang Pengfei a message early in the morning saying that he wouldn't be home for dinner. Zhang Pengfei felt inexplicably lonely, and even when Hua Hua chattered on about her experiences at school, he couldn't muster any interest.
Zhang Pengfei comforted himself, explaining that he was worried Chen Jingyang would come back drunk and lose control, which was why he couldn't be happy.
However, when Chen Jingyang was taken home by his assistant, and after giving him a quick kiss, he lay down on the bed snoring loudly, he was still unhappy.
Zhang Pengfei had no choice but to come up with another reasonable explanation for himself—he had been eagerly anticipating telling him about his internship, but the man had fallen asleep as soon as he got back. What a waste of all the preparation he had put in!
The next morning, Chen Jingyang, this "lazybones," failed to get up and have breakfast with Zhang Pengfei and his sister again. In the evening, he went out for a social event, and this time he went even further, spending the night outside!
As a result, Zhang Pengfei tossed and turned in bed for most of the night, unable to fall asleep!
But what Zhang Pengfei didn't expect was that for several days afterward, he couldn't find a chance to speak to Chen Jingyang!
Chen Jingyang either comes home very late, or he simply sleeps in room 7005.
Logically speaking, after the two got together, he was extremely annoyed by Chen Jingyang. Now that Chen Jingyang is not coming back, he should be happy!
But he felt a strange emptiness inside!
Damn it! What's going on? This doesn't make sense!
Lying in bed for hours unable to close his eyes, Zhang Pengfei felt like he might be going crazy!
This situation continued until the day he finished his bar exam. As soon as Zhang Pengfei left the exam room, he sent a message to Chen Jingyang: "Come home for dinner tonight!"
