Her voice was exceptionally cold.
The soldiers, seeing her, unconsciously straightened their chests.
Some soldiers stepped forward after hearing her words, as this arrangement was the best, and they were unwilling to become enemies with their former friends.
After arranging the soldiers, they waited quietly for their departure.
As dusk falls, the stars change.
Tonight is the night they will leave. Now, looking at the two swallows entwined outside the window, she can't help but feel uneasy.
I hope everything goes well tonight.
"Hey! Everyone's here."
When Xu Erniang arrived at Qi Nuan's room, she was not surprised to see Ji Jin and Yan Gong there, as the three of them were often together. She casually joked with them, then looked at Qi Nuan seriously and said, "Is the Prefect looking for you?"
Qi Nuan nodded to Xu Erniang, indicating that she would be there shortly.
After Xu Erniang left, Qi Nuan looked at Yan Gong and said, "If I haven't returned by nightfall, please have them leave in batches."
Yan Gong agreed, saying, "Be careful and don't cause any trouble."
Qi Nuan nodded.
Seeing Qi Nuan about to leave, Ji Jin called out to her, "I'll go with you."
Before Qi Nuan could agree, Yan Gong stopped her, saying, "No, you can manage on your own. Having another person will only increase the chances of something going wrong."
Although Ji Jin didn't think anything would happen to him, he didn't insist since Yan Gong had said so.
only……
He told Qi Nuan to wait a moment, then quickly returned to his room, retrieved the jade pendant his father had left behind, and handed it to Qi Nuan.
"This is?"
Yan Gong's gaze fell on the jade pendant, then turned to Ji Jin and asked, "Are you the son of Ji Wen, the Inspector General?"
Ji Jin nodded and said, "This is a memento left to me by my father."
He paused for a moment and said, "The eldest son is also my father's child. This thing is useless to me, but he wants it, so I'm going to give it to him."
Yan Gong frowned slightly. "Did he know about the existence of this jade pendant?"
Ji Jin shook his head and said definitively, "I don't know. If he knew, the jade pendant would have been in his hands long ago."
Upon hearing this, Yan Gong's brows relaxed slightly, and after a moment of contemplation, he nodded.
Qi Nuan was already surprised when Ji Jin said that Bai Jiao and he shared the same father. No one could tell that they were brothers. However, judging from their way of getting along, there must be some hidden story.
Seeing that Ji Jin didn't want to say much, she didn't press him further.
He simply accepted the jade pendant and promised to hand it over to Bai Jiao.
It was past noon by then. Yan Gong watched Qi Nuan's departing figure and said to Ji Jin, "Let's go to the military camp first."
When Qi Nuan arrived at Bai Jiao's study, she did not see Bai Jiao.
She poured herself a cup of tea at the table; the tea was still hot.
She took a small sip, wondering to herself why Bai Jiao had summoned her.
After drinking two cups of tea, she finally noticed Bai Jiao, who had arrived late.
When Bai Jiao arrived, he saw her leisurely demeanor. He took the tea she offered, took a sip, and said, "I haven't seen you for many days. I didn't invite you, so you didn't come, did you?"
Qi Nuan said, "Since the prefect doesn't want to see me, why should I go out of my way to make myself disliked?"
Bai Jiao looked into Qi Nuan's eyes and said, "There's no need for us to be so distant."
Qi Nuan had no patience for this pointless chatter and asked directly, "Speak, what did you call me here for?"
"Is the Jiang Yu you know from Shangjun?"
Qi Nuan looked at him: "So what if it is, and so what if it isn't?"
"It's not always a happy ending; if..."
His gaze toward Qi Nuan turned cold. "If so, I hope you will hand over your military power."
Qi Nuan looked up at him and said firmly, "Absolutely impossible. It's impossible for me to give you my people."
"You should know that we can't get along. If it's the case... who would you choose?"
Qi Nuan didn't answer. Bai Jiao gave a self-deprecating smile. He already knew the answer, but he was still asking knowingly.
"The world is in turmoil. Are you confident that you can win the championship among all the heroes? One person is weak, but the power of many is great. Why must you fight against Shangjun?"
Qi Nuan looked into his eyes earnestly and said, "Wouldn't it be better if we cooperated?"
Bai Jiao laughed, "We? Who do you represent? Are you so sure I can't, but he can?"
Qi Nuan didn't understand why he insisted on dwelling on these things instead of focusing on what she said next.
"You know that's not what I meant. I'm talking to you about future development. You know better than I do what the outside world is like right now. Do you think that if the two armies of Hedong were to fight, how long could Hedong hold off the enemy?"
Currently, Wu Jiliang and Chu Guanzhi occupy a corner of Yuyang, Gu Yucheng of Langya occupies another, Xiao Wu of Bashu controls a third, Sheng Xiao and Zhou Huang hold sway over Changsha, and Jiang Yu of Shangjun is also present. These are the major powers that currently control the most cities and have the most influence in the world.
There are other smaller factions, similar to Bai Jiao.
After these six major forces eliminated the surrounding smaller forces.
The real war will begin then.
Bai Jiao closed his eyes. Of course he knew Qi Nuan was telling the truth, but why couldn't he defeat them? Anything is possible, isn't it?
When he opened his eyes again, there was no hesitation in them. Looking at the expectation in Qi Nuan's eyes, he gave no answer.
Instead, he said, "For the sake of our years of working together, I won't hurt you, but you just need to stay in the backyard."
Qi Nuan looked at him, making sure he wasn't joking, and suddenly found it a little ridiculous.
What makes him think she'll listen to him, and what does it mean to stay in the backyard?
She said no more to him, stood up, and said, "Even so, we are not on the same page, so I will take my leave."
Seeing that she wanted to leave, how could Bai Jiao let her go?
He attacked her without hesitation.
Qi Nuan simply stood there and watched him quietly, without making any move away.
Bai Jiao noticed something was wrong as soon as he struck out. He felt weak and powerless all over. He looked at the teacup on the table and quickly realized that the problem lay there.
"You poisoned me?"
Qi Nuan looked at the disbelief in his eyes. He was about to make a move against her. Why couldn't she strike first?
Qi Nuan stepped forward and pressed his pressure points.
"I won't kill you, after all, you saved me, didn't you? I was just being cautious of you, and you see I did the right thing."
Bai Jiao wanted to speak but couldn't open his mouth, so Qi Nuan pressed his speech acupoint to silence him.
Qi Nuan sighed.
"I will not hurt you today, but when we meet on the battlefield in the future, neither of us will hold back."
As she spoke, she placed the jade pendant that Ji Jin had given him into his hand.
"This is what Ji Jin asked me to give you; it's a memento from your father."
When he saw her take out the jade pendant, Bai Jiao's eyes changed, and when he heard her words, the ferocity in his eyes intensified.
His eyes turned bloodshot.
Father?
He doesn't deserve it.
