While Li Sisui was lost in thought, the little white beast came up to him, sniffed him, and showed a satisfied expression on its little face.
Immediately afterwards, two white whiskers instantly lengthened, like rapidly growing plant roots, winding and climbing up Li Sisui's arm to his neck, wrapping around him tighter and tighter.
As the feeling of suffocation grew clearer, all the experiences of this period came back to mind. Could it all have just been a dream?
Suddenly, a burning pain shot through his neck, and Li Sisui began to roll around on the ground.
It felt like something scalding hot had touched his neck, causing Li Sisui to grimace in pain and clutch his neck tightly with both hands. The little white beast beside him, on the other hand, calmly watched Li Sisui rolling around on the ground.
After rolling around for an unknown amount of time, the pain in her neck gradually disappeared. Only then did Li Sisui open her eyes. The small white beast was still squatting in front of Li Sisui, staring intently at her.
I reached up and touched my neck. There was a ring of raised lines that were particularly noticeable. Although I couldn't see exactly what they looked like, I figured they were marks left from a burn.
Li Sisui was still in shock when she felt as if boiling water was being poured onto her left cheek. The next second, she lost consciousness and fainted.
Li Sisui's left arm began to swell at a visible rate, with muscles bulging and black scales covering the entire arm.
And it showed no signs of stopping, continuing upwards until the burn marks were completely covered before gradually stopping.
Black Scale Li seemed to have his eyes closed, but he glanced around and said coldly:
"What is this thing that dares to plant the master-servant mark on my head?"
Upon seeing Li Sisui covered in black scales, the small white beast instantly seemed to be frightened, arching its body and its white fur standing on end.
With her teeth clenched, her gaze as cold as a glint of light, she stared fiercely at the familiar yet unfamiliar Black Scale Li Sisui before her, as if warning him that if he took any further steps, she would not be so polite!
Looking down at the small white beast at his feet, which was menacing yet still had an adorable expression, Hei Lin Li Si Sui said disdainfully:
"You little thing, you overestimate yourself. Although this body is weak and ignorant, since I am here, why would I serve you as my master? Wishful thinking!"
After saying that, he didn't forget to laugh loudly, looking arrogant and disdainful of the world.
Having said that, Li Si ignored the small white beast behind him and turned to walk towards a large tree, muttering to himself as he went:
"This kid not only has low cultivation, but he's also not very bright. Sooner or later he'll drag me down with him!"
"Since we can't change the body, we'll have to take a longer approach!"
Black Scale Li Sisui suddenly looked puzzled and muttered to himself:
"Master-servant mark? Master and servant? I remember I was the only protagonist in the world, how could I have a master-servant mark? Something's not right!"
Boom!
Li Sisui's vast and torrential sea of consciousness was as if he had suddenly encountered lightning from the heavens, and he was terrified and could not see anything. In an instant, he seemed to have a glimmer of understanding in his heart, and his eyes looked unfocusedly towards the sky!
Rumble! Boom!
Li Sisui suddenly closed his eyes, his face showing a look of intoxication, and his brows were filled with a sense of satisfaction, completely different from the domineering and decisive person he had been just moments before!
Not long after, Li Sisui, who had just looked like he hadn't had enough, was once again shrouded in a cloud of doubt. His brows furrowed into a knot, and he kept repeating:
"What Red Land? Shouldn't I be atop Mount Buzhou? What Nine Dragons Sect? Shouldn't I be in the Asura Ridge? Eagle explode! Leng Rushuang, Yao Shiba, what do these names represent? Why do they feel so familiar, yet I can't quite place them? Ah!"
At the same time, centered on Li Sisui, everything around him began to fade and disappear, as if it had never existed. The world turned into a pale color again, like a painting that had not yet been painted, making people drool!
Li Sisui's eyes were tightly closed, his face was ferocious, and the gap between his eyebrows was particularly conspicuous. Golden light surged in the gap, and earth fire hooked the sky. Even the Mountain Ring on his finger, which had long disappeared, had reappeared at some point!
Not only that, but the mountain ring was now a deep, almost purple red, standing out starkly against the pale, inky world. It became the only color in the landscape, breathtaking and captivating. Li Sisui, writhing in agony with both hands on his head, clearly had no time to appreciate the spectacle before him. Everything was so sudden, so bewildering, so intricately complex. He seemed to have grasped a glimmer of hope, yet upon closer inspection, he couldn't recall anything at all…
December 21, 2012, the winter solstice.
As night falls and lights illuminate the city, office workers emerge from their buildings, finishing their day's work and dragging their weary bodies into subway stations, squeezing onto buses, or getting stuck in traffic at intersections.
For Li Sisui, today is a happy day because it's the Winter Solstice. Traditionally, people eat dumplings on the Winter Solstice to prevent their ears from freezing in winter. Dumplings hold a special significance for Li Sisui; they represent a sense of home. An orphan since childhood, he grew up relying on the kindness of many families; the courtyard was his home. Every time he left home, the uncles and aunts in the courtyard would bring him a bowl of hot dumplings, warming his heart as he ate them.
The saying goes, "On festive occasions, one thinks all the more of one's dear ones." With the Winter Solstice approaching again, Li Sisui couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions, remembering Uncle Liu and Aunt Li in the courtyard, Grandpa Zhang who roasted sweet potatoes, and Xiao Bei, who should be starting junior high this year…
Li Sisui shook his head. Right now, the most important thing for him was to squeeze onto this bus and get back to his own place. Li Sisui had graduated for several years, but he still couldn't find a place in this city and could only live in the urban-rural fringe. Low prices and low rent made this place seem like paradise to migrant workers like Li Sisui.
