Chapter Twenty: The Immortal Daoist

Deep within the main hall of the Luoyun Sect, sat an old man with a wrinkled face, wearing a plain Taoist robe, meditating with his eyes closed. Suddenly, he opened his eyes abruptly, a glint of light flashing in them. Then, an invisible divine sense spread out, heading straight for Li Sisui's residence. But the next second, upon contacting Leng Rushuang, who was also meditating, the invisible divine sense retreated like a tide, like a mouse seeing a cat!

"This...this female cultivator is incredibly powerful. I couldn't even see through her. I wonder where my grandmaster uncle got her from. Sigh, since she's gone, why did she have to come back?"

The old man slowly opened his dim, yellow eyes, a hint of hesitation and struggle flashing across his face. In the end, he waved his hand and took out a brocade pouch wrapped in gold thread from his storage ring. Inside the pouch was only a roll of plain brocade, its texture soft and delicate, with several lines of writing densely on it.

The old man squinted, scanning Su Jin back and forth in the dim candlelight of the main hall. Finally, he sighed again, carefully placed Su Jin into the brocade pouch, and put his hand into his storage ring. Then he closed his eyes and continued to meditate. The candlelight flickered, and the old man's shadow stretched and twisted in the candlelight. Apart from the occasional cold wind, there was no other sound in the main hall.

Leng Rushuang, who was meditating with her eyes closed in the cave, suddenly opened them. She glanced expressionlessly toward the main hall of the Luoyun Sect, a cold glint appearing in her beautiful eyes beneath the red veil, before closing them again.

Nothing happened that night. After letting down his guard, Li Sisui slept soundly. His nerves had been on edge the whole way, and he could finally get a good night's sleep. Although cultivators no longer needed to sleep or rest, replacing it all with meditation and cultivation, Li Sisui was still essentially an ordinary person. His biological habits, formed over decades, could not be changed overnight.

"Wake up? Grandmaster Uncle? Stop sleeping, the sun is already high in the sky, and all the fellow disciples have finished their morning lessons..."

"So gluttonous and lazy, no wonder his cultivation hasn't improved an inch in nearly a thousand years..."

"Alas, a hopeless case. If our former master had possessed even a fraction of his former prowess, the Luoyun Sect would be far more powerful than it is today!"

Li Sisui was being shaken repeatedly in his sleep, his brows furrowed. The constant whispers around him made him impatient. Finally, under the person's persistent shaking, Li Sisui opened his eyes and groggily glanced to the side. He saw that there were no fewer than thirty people around him, dressed similarly to him, who should all be his fellow disciples.

Leading the group was a kind-faced, wrinkled old man with a white beard. Li Si recognized him; he was the current sect leader of the Luoyun Sect—the Immortal Changsheng. In his memory, the last time the sect leader had come in person was about five hundred years ago. He wondered what had happened today that made the sect leader personally come, and not only that, but also create such a grand spectacle!

Li Sisui got up, casually stretched, and let out a series of satisfying yawns. He'd had a really good sleep; it would have been even better if he'd woken up naturally. He hadn't slept this comfortably in a long time. However, Li Sisui's actions only fueled the resentment of his disciples and followers. The person who had just woken Li Sisui immediately shouted angrily:

"Grandmaster Uncle, although you are of a higher generation, you can't be so arrogant. The sect leader has come in person, in front of the entire sect. How can you treat people like this?"

Given Li Sisui's seniority in the Luoyun Sect, calling them disciples and grand-disciples would be an overstatement. After all, even Changsheng Daoren had to address him as Grandmaster Uncle. The person speaking was Juemingzi, a disciple personally taught by the sect leader. Ever since Changsheng Daoren took over the Luoyun Sect, he had been at odds with Li Sisui.

Now, rushing to the front, he probably wants to show off in front of the Immortal Daoist. Li Sisui ignored the Cassia Seed that was close by, walked past it, and clasped his hands in a fist and bowed to the Immortal Daoist, saying:

"Greetings, Sect Master."

The Immortal Daoist squinted his eyes, stroked his beard, and laughed loudly:

"Greetings, Grandmaster Uncle. I came to visit you today after hearing from the disciples of the sect. A few days ago, I heard from the younger generation that you, Grandmaster Uncle, could not bear the failure of your breakthrough and committed suicide by falling off a cliff. I found it ridiculous at the time. As expected, you are safe and sound. I wonder where you have gone to travel and relax?"

"Hehe, I didn't go anywhere, just went to the Tianmen Sect..."

"Heavenly...Heavenly Gate Sect? Grandmaster Uncle, haha, I didn't expect you to be so humorous now!"

The smile that had just appeared on Changsheng Daoren's face froze instantly, a hint of shock flashing in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it. However, before Changsheng Daoren could say anything more, Jue Mingzi beside him burst out laughing:

"Tianmen Sect? The number one sect on Fugu Mountain? Are you kidding us? You must be dreaming. They haven't even climbed Sage Hill, yet they claim to have been to Fugu Mountain, and... hahaha!"

Jue Mingzi laughed so hard he almost fell over, all traces of respect he had previously maintained vanished, his words filled with disdain and contempt. His fellow disciples behind him joined in the laughter, while Changsheng Daoren said with some anger:

"Jueming! Shut up! How dare you speak to your grandmaster like that! Get out of here!"

After saying this, the Immortal Daoist pulled Jue Mingzi behind him and slowly stepped forward, saying:

“Grandmaster Uncle, I have spoken without thinking and have offended you. I hope you will forgive me. It is my fault for not disciplining you properly.”

As he spoke, Daoist Changsheng clasped his hands in a gesture of apology to Li Sisui. Upon seeing this, the latter quickly stepped forward to help Daoist Changsheng up. From his memories, he knew that no matter how much the other people in the sect ridiculed him, this sect leader had always treated him well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been allowed to live like a carefree hermit in the Luoyun Sect for over a thousand years...

"Sect Master, is there anything I can do for you today?"

As he spoke, Li Sisui glanced at the group of fellow disciples behind the Immortal Changsheng and completely ignored Jue Mingzi. The latter's mockery seemed somewhat inexplicable to him. No one comes to the Three Treasures Hall without a reason. If Li Sisui didn't know the situation, he would really think that they were coming for him!

"Grandmaster Uncle, you're too kind. May I ask how to address that senior inside?"

"Uh... he's just a friend who's passing by, Sect Master, you don't need to worry about him."

"Oh, so you are a friend of my grandmaster uncle. I'm sorry for my neglect. I should have personally gone out to greet you when you returned last night. I wonder if you will take offense?"

"It's alright, she's just staying temporarily and will leave in a few days. Sect Master, there's no need to worry about it."

The two exchanged questions and answers. Changsheng Daoren frowned, his gaze occasionally passing over Li Sisui and looking at the cave behind him. Clearly, he did not believe Li Sisui's words. Based on his understanding of Li Sisui, it was absolutely impossible for him to know such a senior expert, especially a female cultivator!

Although Li Sisui answered every question from the Immortal Daoist flawlessly, the Immortal Daoist showed no sign of giving up. Just then, an invisible wave of divine consciousness surged from the direction of the cave, as imposing as a towering mountain, sweeping over them and causing all the cultivators, including the Immortal Daoist, to freeze in place:

"This...this is the Transcendent Stage!"
