Everyone was stunned, but unlike the others, the demons looked at Li Sisui with expressions of fear and trepidation. Even Demon Eighteen looked resentful and muttered:
"How can a mere bunch of human rogue cultivators shoulder the destiny of the demon race? City Lord, have you thought this through?"
Compared to the demon race, Li Sisui looked puzzled. He still didn't understand what the destiny of the demon race had to do with him. He had only come in to inquire about some information about the entrance to the Demon Mountain, so how did he become the destiny of the demon race in such a muddle?
Although Leng Rushuang also looked puzzled, she clearly knew more than Li Sisui, but only about the rumors about the demon race. She had a vague feeling about the so-called destiny of the demon race, but she couldn't be sure. Moreover, people who are not of our race are bound to have different hearts. It was inappropriate to let human cultivators bear the destiny of the demon race!
Meiji probably anticipated that her words would cause a huge uproar, and she was clearly prepared. Seeing the different expressions on everyone's faces, she continued:
"Everyone, at this critical juncture for the survival of our clan, I hope you can discard some outdated ideas. This opportunity will not come again. Eighteen has been gone for a long time now, and you should know better than I do that. Although his strength is beyond doubt, there are some things that cannot be accomplished simply by being strong!"
The sword god before you is no ordinary person. Don't be fooled by his smiling face; before him, who among you could have imagined that a human cultivator could be on par with, or even slightly surpass, the Eighteen-Strike Qi Hu within the Demon Breath Pavilion?
"Lord of the city, I did not lose. How can you say I was slightly better? If you hadn't stopped me, I would have used my ultimate killing technique long ago, hmph!"
Meiji, with a serious expression, interrupted Yao Shiba's grumbling and continued:
"Shut up! Eighteen, you should know perfectly well whether we win or lose. This is just an analogy. Can you stop getting so caught up in these trivial matters? Is the fate of our tribe less important than your competitive spirit?"
"Your Excellency is too kind. I dare not!"
Seeing Meiji's slightly cold expression, even the fearless Yao Shiba had no choice but to back down. He then turned and glared fiercely at Li Sisui, which left the latter feeling quite helpless. How did he end up getting dragged into this mess? And judging from Yao Shiba's attitude, he was even blaming everything that was happening on him...
"As members of the demon race, are our descendants destined to eke out a living in this Broken Halberd City forever? As a race that once dominated the Asura Ridge, have we become accustomed to living under someone else's roof and depending on their whims?"
Meiji spoke clearly and distinctly, each word like a nail, piercing straight into the chests of the demons, making them feel suffocated and unable to breathe. Their expressions grew increasingly gloomy, and an atmosphere of oppression and anger filled the air!
"I don't know if you're willing to accept this or not, but I certainly am!"
"We are not resigned to this either! At the city lord's command, we brothers will fight to the death!"
The demon race was filled with righteous indignation, their momentum unstoppable. A hint of satisfaction appeared on Meiji's face as she continued:
"As the only remaining elders of the demon race, there is naturally no need to doubt you. However, the demon race has come to this point, and it is too difficult for it to rise again on its own. So many years have passed, and apart from hiding in the shadow of Broken Halberd City, we have accomplished nothing. The glorious memories of the demon race have long become memories of the past. Even the demon race has never seen such a world below the mountain!"
The demons' faces were stiff, their eyes burning with rage, yet they had no way to vent it. Demon Eighteen viciously wiped the blood off his body, muttering to himself:
"The demon race will never perish, the demon race will last forever, the demon race will live on forever!"
"The demon race will never perish, the demon race will last forever, the demon race will live on forever!"
The demons were also unconsciously influenced by Yao Shiba's words and began to repeat them. In an instant, their voices were powerful and had the potential to change the world!
"Although the demon race is not extinct, if it continues to develop in the current way, it will not be far from destruction. When all cultivators forget that the demon race exists in this world, then the demon race will be completely destroyed. Compared to the death of the physical body, being forgotten by everyone is the most terrifying thing. And the demon race is now moving steadily towards this path!"
The atmosphere was so oppressive that some of the more impatient members of the demon race couldn't help but shout:
"Lord, just tell us! We'll do anything you ask, as long as the demon race can leave this hellish place and see the light of day again. We don't care if we're human cultivators or even if we have to associate with demonic cultivators. Just give us a straight answer!"
"Yes, City Lord, the demon race is already suffering enough. Please don't rub salt into our wounds. Just tell us if there's any other solution. It seems like time is really running out for the demon race..."
Upon hearing this, Meiji's expression changed drastically. Her pretty face transformed into one of fierce heroism, all traces of her former allure vanished, and she declared in a clear voice:
"My friends, after all I've said, isn't the answer obvious? Whether the demon race can see the light of day again depends on whether the demon race's destiny will take action. Do you understand?"
The demons were completely bewildered, shaking their heads like rattles, but their voices were surprisingly in unison:
"We don't understand, but please give us your orders, Lord City Lord, and we will obey without hesitation!"
"Quiet down for a second. Can anyone come out and explain to me what this so-called destiny of the demon race has to do with me? Although I promised the city lord to help you find the demon cave, what does that have to do with the destiny of the demon race?"
Li Sisui couldn't stand it any longer. It seemed no one cared about his opinion, so how could he comply? He immediately interrupted. Seeing this, Meiji's face lit up with a smile again, her sharp eyes sweeping over the group of demons. Those who were about to say something immediately fell silent. Seeing this, Meiji then spoke:
