The flames in their hands had just died down when the vengeful spirits gathered in the formation surged toward their location. The aura of the dead constantly wafted past their ears. The formation was pitch black, and then a streak of silver light flashed, clearing out a large, peaceful area.
Geng Qi examined the area intently for a while, then frowned and said, "I can't find it."
Qing Han also looked up: "The aura of living souls is everywhere, as if... as if the living soul of Mu Shan is connected to this formation."
Rongyun focused his attention on the formation. He was not familiar with Mushan and could not distinguish his soul, but as far as he could see, the undead in this formation were all independent entities, and the formation was composed of thousands of undead.
A person's soul is a whole; if it is in all directions as they say, what is the difference between that and the soul being scattered?
Is that person still alive?
This was also a problem Geng Qi was considering. While he was hesitating, the voice of the Supreme Elder from before came from outside the magic array: "The person the Demon Lord is looking for is in the array. If you want to take him away, just find him!"
The sound, generated by his true energy, trembled slightly, yet it carried a hint of smugness and arrogance.
Geng Qi's eyes darkened suddenly. He was still holding the wooden stick from which he had finished eating the sugar figurine. He suddenly threw it in the direction from which the sound came. With a loud bang, flames burst forth, and the eerie, trembling voice vanished instantly.
"What's there to be arrogant about, you coward who doesn't even dare to let your divine sense in!"
Outside the formation, the person meditating in the spiritual chamber suddenly opened his eyes. Although the fire had not touched him, he felt as if he had been burned, and his whole body ached. After confirming that this was just his own inner demon, he gritted his teeth in hatred.
Within the formation, Geng Qi withdrew his hand and turned around to see the person behind him looking at him with a strange expression.
Generally speaking, once someone cultivates to the level of a Demon Lord, they can do whatever they want with just a thought. Throwing things with such a large movement like he just did looks quite... childish!
Geng Qi coughed lightly and said, "Was my pose cool just now?"
Rong Yu: "..."
Imperial Advisor: "..."
Qinghan: "...Handsome."
"That's good." Geng Qi turned to look at Rong Yu again, his pupils shrinking slightly when his gaze fell on Rong Yu's Drunken Shadow Sword, which was blocking the unsheathed necromancer.
After being tempered by the true fire of Nirvana, the murderous aura on the blade vanished completely, the blood red color faded, and spiritual light radiated. The sword that originally devoured the undead has now become the nemesis of the undead.
He burned the remnant soul of Saintess Wanyao, which had been corrupted by evil energy, to save people, sealed it in a spirit-sealing bag, and placed it in Rong Yu's storage bracelet. He didn't know what had happened to it. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but then stopped, and finally pursed his lips and gave up.
“She’s fine,” Rong Yu suddenly said.
Geng Qi was taken aback. "Really?"
He subconsciously continued speaking, then looked up and met Rong Yu's gaze, before quickly lowering his eyes again.
Rong Yu pulled him into his arms without any hesitation: "This Samsara Formation is not a killing formation."
Because these undead pose no threat to them.
Hearing him change the subject, Geng Qi breathed a sigh of relief and leaned against him, seemingly feeling much more at ease. He then focused his attention on the formation that trapped them.
If you were in hell, surrounded by evil spirits, this would probably be what it looks like.
Geng Qi said, "He probably wants to use the living soul of Mu Shan to trap us."
This is indeed a dilemma. If it is true, as they have discovered, that Mu Shan's soul has dissipated, but what they are sensing is clearly the aura of a living soul. A person can only have a living soul if they are not dead. Now that their life and death are uncertain and their soul cannot be found, they cannot make up their minds whether or not to break the formation.
"Mushan...is still alive."
After hesitating for a moment, Qinghan suddenly spoke.
Geng Qi turned his head: "How did you know?"
Qinghan blankly presented a translucent white scorpion, quietly avoiding the Grand Preceptor's gaze. A wisp of green smoke drifted by, revealing the scorpion's pale face, its lips upturned in a harmless smile: "I told him."
"..."
Do you know where he is?
"I know."
"..." Geng Qi suppressed the urge to punch him and asked with a smile, "Why didn't you say so before?"
Jie Beiying laughed: "His Excellency didn't ask me either?"
"..." Although he was angry, Geng Qi still kept smiling and said, "I didn't ask you anything!"
Jie Beiying put one arm around Qing Han's shoulder, glanced down at him, and said, "Staying in a place like this for too long will scare him."
Following his gaze, Geng Qi saw that the boy's body was stiff and unresponsive. He was now filled with an uncontrollable fear of these vengeful spirits.
Seeing them looking over, Qinghan quickly said, "I...I'm fine."
"We have something to do," Geng Qi said considerately. "We can't stay trapped here forever."
Jie Beiying didn't delay any longer. He still looked very weak, almost entirely supporting himself on Qing Han. He raised one hand, and something unseen gathered in it. His smile faded slightly, and a cold light flashed in his eyes. The approaching undead instantly dissipated into nothingness.
Something was gathering within the magic circle. Geng Qi probed with his divine sense and was astonished to discover that it was the living soul of Mu Shan.
A moment later, a black mist seemed to gather on the collapsed ground beneath their feet, gradually rising up to reveal a black mass resembling a human head. The black mist dissipated from the face, revealing a familiar yet unfamiliar face.
It's familiar because it's Kiyama's face, but unfamiliar because... that scar is missing from his face!
That scar that stretches from the side of my face down to my chin!
"A soul?" Geng Qi frowned slightly.
A soul is a life form that can survive even after being separated from the physical body. Unlike a divine soul, it can spread freely and can be reassembled even if it is shattered.
Jie Beiying said, "It is a soul, it always has been."
