"Grandmaster Uncle has been staring at that willow tree for a long time. What are you looking at?"
"I just saw a crow fly away."
"What's so interesting about crows? They're not as interesting as people!"
A voice came from behind, and the person lowered their half-raised hand.
At the entrance of Gefeng Town, there is a river flowing out of the town. The riverbank is lined with willows, their branches supple and graceful. From a distance, they look like a layer of green mist, and their reflections in the water make even the flowing water appear green. It is serene and elegant, just like the person standing in front of the willows.
Two female disciples of the Tianzhi Sect stole glances at the people by the river, their eyes shining so brightly they could light up the night.
They were all newly initiated disciples of the Tianzhi Sect and knew almost nothing about this person. They only knew that he was the sect leader's eldest disciple and that his fellow disciples called him "Grandmaster Uncle".
I had imagined him to be a kind-eyed old man with white eyebrows and hair, but he turned out to be a handsome and elegant man, with a graceful figure like a banished immortal. His black hair was tied up high with a pure white jade crown, and his brocade robe was plain without any embellishment. Just his back view made others look like grains of sand.
They only dared to stare at his back without restraint; if he turned around, they wouldn't dare to linger for even a moment in a fleeting glance.
He ignored their stares and gazed at the rippling river surface, the setting sun casting a blinding glow on the water.
A gentle breeze swept by, carrying away the surrounding heat. The riverbank was cool, but he felt a heavy, burning sensation in his chest—a feeling he hadn't experienced since a hundred years ago on Mount Kaopan.
The mountaintop where thunder never ceased and fire never died down, the screams and wails in my ears, and the cries of babies—it was a scene of purgatory that seemed to be playing out again before my eyes.
He felt a sudden, inexplicable restlessness, and he couldn't tell whether it was his own emotions or something within him.
A longsword with a silver sheath and scroll patterns hung at his side. He was holding the hilt with one hand, which made his already slender hand appear even more bony. The blue veins that appeared and disappeared on the back of his hand revealed his turbulent inner world.
"Grandmaster Uncle, Senior Sister Yuan is back."
Someone behind him reminded him, and soon a woman stepped forward, bowed to Rong Yu's back, and said, "Grandmaster Uncle."
Rong Yu snapped out of his daze, released the sword hilt, and turned around.
"how?"
Yuan Xin said, "The town is filled with demonic energy, and many demons have infiltrated it. Recently, the Guhuo Ghost has reappeared, causing the deaths of thirty-seven people within a month. One of them was the son of Zhu Lizheng from Gefeng Town. The secret letter for help sent to the sect was also written by Zhu Lizheng."
Rong Yu responded calmly, "Let's go."
“There’s one more thing…” Yuan Xin then turned to the side: “The people from Yandan Sect arrived in town before us.”
"Um."
Seeing that he didn't say much, Yuan Xin immediately called the other disciples to follow.
Tianzhi Sect and Yandan Sect are located in the northeast and northwest of Gefeng Town, respectively. In terms of sect location, Yandan Sect is much closer to Gefeng Town, so it is not surprising that they arrived first, and there is nothing to worry about.
However, this was something that Geng Qi needed to pay close attention to.
His identity was sensitive, and he repeatedly warned himself not to cause trouble while traveling. He spent the whole day in town without causing any disturbance. He never expected that his first trouble would be because of his face.
He knew the original owner was incredibly handsome, especially her captivating peach blossom eyes, but he was, after all, a man, and could never be considered a femme fatale.
Awakened by the arguing downstairs, he heard the teahouse waiter shouting outside the teahouse that immortals had arrived in town. He assumed it was people from the Tianzhi Sect, so he yawned and ran out to see.
Standing on a long, curved corridor looking down, he could indeed see several sect disciples dressed in the same brocade robes. However, since the number didn't match up, he wasn't entirely sure, so he asked Qinghan, "Who are these people?"
"They are from the Yandan Sect."
The answer wasn't what he expected. Geng Qi frowned: "Which sect is Yan Dan Sect?"
Qing Han said, "Yan Dan Sect is one of the three sects."
Geng Qi suddenly realized.
On the Xuanling Continent, there are many righteous sects and factions. Among the famous immortal families known to all, there are one sect, one clan, two halls, and three gates. The first sect is the Tianzhi Sect, which is the head of the immortal sects. The Yandan Sect is one of the three gates and can also be considered a famous sect.
Geng Qi never bothered to remember these sects and factions; they were too troublesome. He only lamented that the righteous sects were useless. They wanted to band together for warmth, but everyone wanted to be the leader. Unlike the Demon Realm, where the former Demon Lord unified the demon and monster realms and only respected one person as the master, the Demon Palace had four great protectors, demons and monsters. He, as the absentee manager, was quite carefree and at ease.
However, it was quite a strange thing that disciples from the two major sects appeared in this small border town on the same day.
Seemingly sensing what he was thinking, Qinghan said from behind him, "The Yandan Sect is here because of the Guhuo Ghost. The son of Zhu Lizheng in Gefeng Town was murdered, and he sought help from the Yandan Sect. However, the Guhuo Ghost is inherently vicious and cunning, and extremely difficult to deal with. The Yandan Sect suffered heavy losses in its efforts to drive away the Guhuo Ghost and is unwilling to get involved in this matter again. Zhu Lizheng waited in vain and then sent a letter to the Tianzhi Sect. He learned that the Tianzhi Sect had sent people, and the Yandan Sect, in order to protect its reputation, sent some rabble to make a show of it."
With those casual words, Geng Qi turned his head in surprise: "How did you know?"
Qinghan was taken aback: "I... I went out for a walk while you were resting, young master."
Geng Qi said with a look of relief, "Reliable!"
"..."
Having no one he wanted to see, Geng Qi was about to turn around and go back to his room when a man suddenly walked up from the end of the corridor, cupped his hands in greeting, and said, "Young master, my master invites you downstairs for a chat."
The person speaking smiled and chuckled. Geng Qi subconsciously looked downstairs and saw a man staring in his direction, smiling with an air of elegance.
