Chapter 69 Mountain of Corpses

"Food?" Chen Jin's eyes widened.

When he looked again at the writhing flesh on the trees, he felt a sudden nausea in his stomach.

Rong Yu asked, "What creature feeds on this?"

“The Jue Beast,” Geng Qi said, “is an ancient ferocious beast that resembles a giant deer, has a bull’s tail and a single horn, and possesses two stomachs, feeding on both yin and yang.”

The Classic of Mountains and Seas states: Ten miles east of Mount Li is Mount Shi, which is rich in blue jade and is home to many deer.

He had loved reading these ancient books about spirits and monsters since he was a child. He had once read about the mythical beast, the Jue Beast, which had two stomachs: one tangible that fed on corpses, and the other intangible that fed on spirits.

He didn't know why something from the Classic of Mountains and Seas would appear in the Desolate Swamp Secret Realm. He figured the original author must have read the story and incorporated it into the book, which is why they stumbled upon it. If that was the case, they would be in trouble if they encountered the ferocious beast on Corpse Mountain.

He intently watched the movements within the forest of corpses. The area was barren, making it easy to spot any feral beasts emerging from within.

The dry bones beneath his feet creaked underfoot, and the surrounding spirits floated around them. Geng Qi felt like the protagonist in a horror movie scene, and it was terrifying.

A gust of foul-smelling wind blew in his face, and Geng Qi sniffed, his face full of disgust.

"Young master, is the fawn you speak of about ten feet tall?"

Someone spoke from behind him. Geng Qi was slightly taken aback and turned around, asking, "How did you know?"

Suddenly, he realized that the direction his gaze was in was wrong. Looking up, he saw a giant deer floating in the air about two zhang above them. It had a single horn on its head, no pupils in its eyes, only a cloud of black mist floating around it, and a skull-like face. It was looking down at them from its high position.

Geng Qi: "..."

Holy crap! I've never heard of a deer that can fly!

After a moment of stunned silence, the gray mist in the deer's eyes suddenly flickered, and it swooped down towards where they were.

"Get out of the way!" Geng Qi was startled. He swung a gust of wind behind him, forcing the person back. He himself was picked up around the waist and quickly moved away, leaving a large open space in the center. The huge body of the ferocious beast landed with a thud.

Qinghan looked up from Xie Beiying's arms. The deer had its back to them, and its tail, which was swishing back and forth, was indeed like that of a cow.

The two people in front of them faced the ferocious beast head-on. As they got closer, the beast's pupils became even more terrifying. The prolonged staring felt like being swallowed by an abyss, and their bodies turned ice-cold.

Geng Qi frowned and said, "It stinks!"

He deliberately lowered his voice, but the beast in front of him seemed to understand. Its gray eyes flickered, and it suddenly opened its mouth, about to pounce.

Rong Yu frowned, picked the person up again, and quickly stepped back. Drunken Shadow appeared out of nowhere and caught the two of them steadily.

The three behind him also flew around on their swords to the front of the fawn beast. Chen Jin looked at the two groups of people flying the same sword, and then at himself flying alone. He couldn’t help but sigh that the new Demon Lord was too pathetic, not even having a usable sword!

When Geng Qi saw that his expression was normal, he turned his head to look and found that Xie Beiying's mask had been put back on at some point, leaving only a thin mark on his chin, which looked like an abrasion.

With a cryptic glance at Qing Han, Feng Yuan was flung out from his sleeve, radiating golden light. The dazzling light stimulated the ferocious beast below, which lowered its body, exhaled two breaths of corpse energy, and then suddenly charged upwards, opening its blood-red maw towards the group in the air.

Chen Jin dodged on his sword and shouted, "Didn't you say it feeds on corpses? There are so many corpse trees over there, why is it still chasing us!"

“Maybe it’s just a picky eater! Besides…” Geng Qi said matter-of-factly, “Aren’t we just corpses anyway when we die?”

"..."

He glanced at the corpse tree that was still growing on the other side. Corpses would have corpse poison. The feral beasts relied on the Azure Jade to resist the poison, but they were still afraid of it. Besides, eating a living person, including the soul, would fill two stomachs, which was much better than eating those corpse trees!

Seeing the feral beast charging straight at him, Geng Qi smiled and lit a large ball of fire in his hand. "Try this!"

Facing its wide-open mouth, the beast suddenly felt an intense heat. The gray mist in its eyes throbbed violently. It tried to close its mouth but it was too late and swallowed the purple fire whole.

Geng Qi's red lips parted slightly: "Explode!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the falling feral beast suddenly let out a violent wail, its body burst open from the inside, and its limbs scattered into the river of corpses, where they were swept away by the current.

The group breathed a sigh of relief. The feral beast wasn't particularly powerful, but it was certainly disgusting.

Rong Yu, holding Geng Qi, descended from the air, avoiding the carcass of the flea beast. However, as soon as they landed, the person in his arms suddenly went limp. He tightened his grip on Geng Qi's waist and exclaimed in surprise, "What happened?"

Geng Qi said dejectedly, "I'm sleepy."

"..."

Chen Jin was glaring at his words when he saw the First Prince effortlessly pick him up in his arms. Geng Qi put his hands around his neck and was about to close his eyes when he heard someone shout, "Your Majesty, save me! Your Majesty!"

"..."

The voice was unfamiliar yet very clear. The group looked in the direction of the voice and saw a person emerge from the midst of the mutilated limbs in the forest of corpses not far from them. The person was looking at them with shining eyes.

Geng Qi's drowsiness lessened considerably from the shock, but he didn't get off Rong Yu. Confused, he asked, "Who are you?"

In the demon realm, some people call him "Your Excellency," and some lesser demons call him "Lord." But this is the Desolate Swamp Secret Realm controlled by the righteous path. How could people from the demon realm appear here?

“Young master, his... his feet are attached to a tree.”

Upon hearing this, Geng Qi lowered his head and looked down. Sure enough, the person's legs were attached to the tree!

Is this person a corpse tree?!

Before he could see clearly, everything suddenly went black, and a familiar voice said in his ear, "Do not look at what is improper."
