"You're really amazing."
Yan Yanluo smiled slightly.
[Yanyanluo, often found near stoves and campfires in farmhouses, fears whirlwinds and sudden gusts of wind. This monster is sometimes written as "Yama, Yama," because her rage evokes images of the flames of hell.]
Quan pondered silently. She had just subdued the Great Tengu, and the monster she feared least was Enenra. But would it be dangerous for the ghost to take away so easily?
His face remained calm, but his mind was in complete turmoil, and Quan hesitated without realizing it.
"My lord, do you need me?"
The Great Tengu stood guard in front of her.
"No need." Quan stepped out from behind him and said calmly, "If I'm not mistaken, you followed us to rescue Fa Gui, right?"
A look of surprise flashed in Yan Yanluo's eyes, and she asked with astonishment, "How...how did you know?"
What are you going to do by sending ghosts?
Little Snow Girl asked in confusion.
"Oh dear~" Yan Yanluo lowered her head, took a puff of her cigarette, and laughed, "It's because of my brother's ghost."
"The little monster has a younger brother?"
The Great Tengu glanced at her disdainfully.
"Of course I can't compare to you. But he's an important member of my family." Yanyanluo wasn't angry.
“In that case, why don’t you challenge this wicked woman…? If you can defeat her, you can save the demon,” said the Great Tengu.
"Is that so, sir?"
Yan Yanluo smiled slightly, and countless plumes of smoke drifted from the pipe in her hand.
Izumi did not respond. The smoke drifted onto her with the wind, and Yanyanluo disappeared into the smoke. When the white mist completely covered Izumi's body, Yanyanluo reappeared in the smoke.
"no."
Quan then gave his reply.
What?
Yanyanluo quickly dispelled the smoke and reappeared where she had just been standing.
“What did you say?” she asked.
“You can take the Hair-Eating Demon away, and I can hand him over to you,” Quan said in a deep voice.
"Thank you."
Yan Yanluo didn't understand her intention, but a beautiful smile still appeared on her lips.
Quan stared at her intently.
"I hope you can survive on this mountain, avoid being captured by the Onmyoji, and live on." Until he met her again, he willingly called her "Father."
Yan Yanluo was taken aback, then nodded and said, "I will take good care of her."
"Give her the snowball."
The little snow maiden reverted to her adult form and handed the snowball to Yanyanluo.
"Thank you again. Goodbye, Onmyoji~" Yanyanluo's figure gradually disappeared.
Quan gazed at the lock of hair in her hand, her eyes lingering on it with reluctance. "I'll be waiting for you at the Yin-Yang Bureau, a thousand years from now."
"Sir, the ghost has left."
The Snow Woman lowered her head, and her next words dispelled all the sadness in the air: "So let the bald man go find food."
Bald?!
Are you calling me?
"I can't help but feel a little sad," the Great Tengu asked.
Is anyone else here?
The snow woman and he stared at each other, wide-eyed.
"you……!"
"Wait a minute." Izumi placed his hand on the boy's shoulder, a "smile" on his face, and said, "Did you just call me 'that woman'?"
"..."
After a sound beating, Quan set off again, this time with the addition of the bald tengu who was completely dazed from the beating.
-
The next morning, Izumi was awakened by the Great Tengu. Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Snow Princess has disappeared."
"Oh, so she's gone. Oh... what did you say?!"
Quan suddenly came to his senses.
"How could she disappear? Didn't you take good care of her?"
The Great Tengu said dejectedly, "I also need to rest. She left while I was asleep, so I didn't notice."
“I see…” Quan was very anxious, but she forced herself to calm down: “You live here, so you must know what monsters live on this mountain, right?”
"I know, but I don't think it was done by a demon. She's very powerful. Apart from a few powerful demons, she can easily handle other demons."
The Great Tengu flapped its wings and flew in the air, looking down at the forest path.
“No matter how strong she is, she’s still a child. Before I brought her out of the snow mountain, she had never seen a stranger before and didn’t understand the rules of this world at all. What should I do…”
The spring was as swift as an ant on a hot pan.
“If what you say is true, then she is very likely trapped by a monster on the second peak of this mountain.”
"who?"
The Great Tengu looked at the thatched hut hidden under the layers of tree canopy not far away.
"Grandma Shan."
-
Walking in the mountains, Quan tried his best to move his feet, which were wearing wooden clogs, to make them more stable on the rugged mountain path.
“Hey hey…”
The Great Tengu flew in the air, watching her.
"Knowing that you're going to walk on a mountain path, why wear heeled wooden clogs?"
"Unmarried women all wear these wooden clogs, especially girls in Kyoto."
Izumi wiped the sweat from his brow and tried his best to keep up with the Great Tengu.
After hearing her explanation, the Great Tengu looked down at the difficult wooden clogs on her feet, sighed, and fell to the ground.
"Let's stop for now."
Quan was surprised to see him conjure a pair of flat wooden clogs from who-knows-where.
"Put them on."
He placed the wooden clogs on the ground.
Quan glanced at the wooden clogs a few times, then took off the ornate but uncomfortable ones and put on the simple, unadorned ones.
"You actually have shoes."
Stepping on the spring felt incredibly comfortable.
"These are shoes made by the clan for Little Tengu. You should have seen them before; they belong to the boy that Yuki-hime caught that day."
“So it’s his. It’s a surprising fit.” Izumi’s lips curled up. “Let’s keep going.”
