19. Chu Chiyi, where is your cat?
Mu Jia wanted to go up, but the man was like a stubborn anchor, silently pulling her so she couldn't move.
She finally realized that she wouldn't gain anything by continuing the struggle. So she stopped her upward stride and turned around.
“Let go first,” she said, sitting down on the same step. “It hurts a little.”
This time, Chu Chiyi immediately did as he was told and let go.
The next second, the heat, carrying a familiar scent, enveloped her.
Mu Jia turned her head to look at the coat that had been draped over her shoulders, paused for a second, and instinctively wanted to refuse, but couldn't say it in time.
"Never mind," she pouted, "it is indeed a bit cold anyway."
There was silence for a moment.
"Where's the cat? Chu Chiyi, where's the cat you fed?"
As expected, Chu Chiyi seemed surprised that she would actually pursue this matter, and appeared to be stunned for a second by her question.
Their eyes met, and seeing the unusual expression on his face, Mu Jia's eyes flashed with a sly triumph. But after a couple more seconds, she saw him actually smile: "Isn't it right here?"
Before he could finish speaking, a small white kitten emerged from under the thick windshield curtain of an electric scooter.
Stray cats and dogs are generally afraid of people. They probably hid because of her sudden appearance. After listening to their conversation for a while, they realized that she didn't seem to pose any danger to them, so they dared to show themselves again.
Mu Jia's expression suddenly became quite interesting, but when she looked up, she met the expression on the other end of the line, which was clearly trying not to laugh. She couldn't help but glare at him: "You did that on purpose, didn't you!"
After saying that, she stopped looking at him, lowered her head, and stared at the cat. She saw it licking the cat treats that had been squeezed out of the ground. After watching for a while, she suddenly felt a strange itch in her heart, so she turned her head and asked the person next to her, "Do you have any cigarettes?"
"No."
"fraud."
“Mu Jia,” the man turned to look at her, and said seriously, “it’s not really appropriate to smoke in front of such a small cat…”
"..." Mu Jia couldn't help but burst out laughing.
After laughing, she couldn't help but raise her eyebrows and sized up the man beside her. "Chu Chiyi, I don't remember you being this shameless before."
"Really? How long ago?" he said, suddenly extending his hand to her. "And now you like serious people again?"
She thought he had given in, and instinctively reached out to take it, only to find that what he offered was not what she wanted.
It's a straw.
Mu Jia felt somewhat helpless and angrily withdrew her hand.
Chu Chiyi then took over for her, gently poking the porridge back into her hand.
Speaking of which, the last time Mu Jia ate a proper meal was at noon. At night, people's intestinal peristalsis speeds up, and at this moment, her stomach is indeed empty, so empty that she almost feels nauseous.
She lowered her head, and the aroma of milk and buckwheat, along with a strong wok hei (wok aroma), strangely soothed the emptiness inside her.
She looked up. It was still dark, and she could see the shadows of stars in the night. It seemed that the whole world was cool, but her place was warm.
With his hands completely free, Chu Chiyi suddenly grabbed her other, still somewhat cold hand and put it in his pocket.
"What are you doing? I'm not cold!" She instinctively tried to pull away.
The man didn't let go, saying, "I'm cold."
"Need not."
Even after the car stopped in front of the old and worn-out residential building, Mu Jia still couldn't quite understand why she had agreed to come back with him.
They weren't returning to Chu Chiyi's apartment in the High-tech Zone, but to No. 45 Fengxiang Lane in the City Center District, the place he lived before he was eighteen.
Perhaps it was because not long ago, when he looked down, he happened to see the little kitten carefully licking the cat treat he had given as a gift.
Mu Jia had once seen a saying that if you have something you like, you shouldn't be too careful to use it, but rather use it as much as you can.
Because what you like now, you may not like in the future.
No one knows how long a certain feeling will last. Since it might end in the next second, we should be bolder in enjoying and using it.
Chu Chiyi suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt. "Let's go."
Mu Jia came to her senses and realized that it was already dawn. The whole neighborhood was like a pot of water that had just started to boil, with a few scattered bubbles rising to the surface.
Through the car's windshield, you can see some elderly people doing their morning exercise, and middle-aged people carrying large bags of breakfast home...
She followed Chu Chiyi upstairs, and the question she had been pondering, which he had interrupted, resurfaced in her mind.
What she was just thinking was, "But will a cat like cat treats for its entire life?"
Upon entering, she saw that the layout of the house was similar to what she remembered, but the furniture and furnishings seemed quite different. As far as the eye could see, there were no items that had been moved from his place; they were probably all newly purchased.
Mu Jia had just sat down on the sofa when she heard Chu Chiyi urge her, "Go take a shower first. You were dressed too lightly just now, don't catch a cold."
She had just entered the door, still catching her breath, so she spoke in a rather unfriendly tone, "Hmph, you're even more nosy than my mother."
“I’ve brought all your clothes over,” he gestured with his chin toward the room next door, “They’re in there.”
Mu Jia walked into the study converted into a walk-in closet, opened the semi-transparent built-in wardrobe, and saw that the clothes she had left at his house were indeed neatly arranged by season and by category, distinguishing between home wear and outerwear.
She casually swiped the buttons a few times, then a look of surprise flashed in her eyes. "I found my pajamas!?"
Chu Chiyi happened to walk in with her coat and bag that she had just thrown on the sofa. "Hmm."
"Where did you find it?"
"I don't remember." He reached out and hung the bag on the coat rack next to him. "It must have fallen out by itself when you were packing your things."
"Alright, as long as we found it." Mu Jia nodded with satisfaction. "I bought this when I went to France on a business trip. It's a Victoria's Secret!"
As she spoke, she reached for her change of clothes, preparing to take a shower.
Mu Jia froze, her movements and expression both stiffening. Almost instinctively, she wanted to turn around and confront the person behind her.
Without even reaching out to turn it over, you can see that it's a pure white and black silk design, adorned with delicate lace trim.
The clothes looked quite new, which further convinced her that they were definitely not something she had left at his house before.
At the same time, her turning around began to falter. Given their relationship, did she have the right and the right to do so?
