Chapter 156 Keep crying, louder!
As Shen Ci'an and Jiang Zhi were taken away, Tian Yan whispered instructions to his subordinates.
"Stand guard outside their house tonight. Shen Ci'an is cunning and treacherous. I have a feeling he has a backup plan, or he might abandon the woman and run away alone to save the king."
"Isn't that his wife?" the subordinate asked doubtfully. "Would someone surnamed Shen really ignore her?"
"Who knows?" Tian Yan snorted. "We've never met Miss Jiang before. Maybe he'll just bring a random woman to lower our guard so he can escape smoothly."
"Then what's the point of keeping this woman around?" the subordinate said indignantly.
"No rush, so listen carefully tonight and see if they are really a couple."
"Boss, you mean," the subordinate paused, a knowing smile spreading across his face, "that you understand, and I guarantee I'll complete the mission!"
Back at his residence, Shen Ci'an began to explain Jiang Zhi's plans for the next day.
"I will find a way to get Tian Yan to take away the elite troops from the village. At that time, the village will be weakly guarded, and with Lu Yuan secretly helping from among them, you should be able to escape smoothly."
"And what about you, Master?"
The more people Tian Yan took away, the more dangerous it would be for Shen Ci'an. Even with Yu Jun and the others, their numbers were vastly different from those of the bandits.
“Or we could have Yu Jun contact the government and ask them to send troops…” Jiang Zhi hadn’t finished speaking when she saw Shen Ci’an’s helpless expression.
She quickly realized something, and her voice turned cold. "So those who collude with these bandits are government officials."
Shen Ci'an nodded. "You guessed right."
"After you leave the mountain stronghold with Lu Yuan, return to the capital immediately. Do not linger in Sizhou. I will catch up with you with Yu Jun and the others."
Jiang Zhi agreed and couldn't help but step forward to hug Shen Ci'an's waist, "Then please be careful, teacher."
"Okay." Shen Ci gently stroked her soft hair, feeling a little reluctant to part with her.
After this parting, I don't know how long it will be before we meet again.
As night deepened, Shen Ci'an and Jiang Zhi were just about to rest when there was a knock on the door.
Shen Ci'an and Jiang Zhi exchanged a glance, then went to open the door.
It was one of Tian Yan's familiar subordinates who brought in a bed and blankets.
"The boss said it's a bit chilly at night, so he asked me to change your mattresses to thicker ones, otherwise you might catch a cold tomorrow."
He squeezed in with a smile as he spoke.
"There's no need for that trouble," Shen Ci'an politely declined.
Without saying a word, the subordinate put down the bedding he was carrying, grabbed the two blankets that were originally on their bed, and left.
The movement was so fast that no one had time to stop it.
By the time Shen Ci'an and Jiang Zhi came to their senses, the subordinate had already left and even closed the door for them.
"Master, what are they doing..." Jiang Zhi asked, puzzled.
They deliberately changed the bedding; is there something hidden inside?
Shen Ci'an gestured for Jiang Zhi to look outside the door.
A dark shadow flashed by.
The subordinates did not leave immediately, but secretly hid outside.
Shen Ci'an thought of a possibility, and his expression immediately became somewhat unnatural.
"Never mind that, let's go to bed early."
Seeing Shen Ci'an's expression, Jiang Zhi realized something and couldn't help but chuckle.
This was to verify her identity and see if she was important enough to Shen Ci'an.
The two of them tidied up the bedding with perfect understanding, blew out the candles, took off their outer garments, and got into bed.
With only one quilt, they naturally slept in one place.
"Young Miss, if we don't make some noise, the people outside won't give up."
In the darkness, Shen Ci'an's voice was soft, with a slightly hoarse, magnetic quality that tingled and whispered into Jiang Zhi's ears.
Jiang Zhi naturally understood what he meant.
But she was still inexperienced in such matters and couldn't appear too knowledgeable, lest she frighten Shen Ci'an.
So he asked him in a voice barely audible, "What sound was that you were talking about, Master?"
She heard the person beside the bed sigh uncontrollably.
Shen Ci'an was tense, caught in a deep struggle of self-reproach.
How should he explain this to the young lady?
She should be high above, pure and noble, not here in this mountain stronghold, being coveted by him with filthy thoughts, and sinking into the mire with him.
"Excuse me, Miss." Shen Ci'an turned to the side and gently pinched her arm.
Caught off guard, Jiang Zhi let out a soft cry and glared at him in the darkness, "Ouch...it hurts!"
"What are you doing?" Her voice was soft and coquettish.
Shen Ci'an felt even more guilty.
Will the young lady cry?
"kindness?"
"It's when you're feeling wronged, and you're afraid of being heard, sobbing quietly," Shen Ci'an said, forcing a smile.
"Now? Just cry?"
"Yes, cry."
This put Jiang Zhi in a difficult position.
How can something make you cry right from the start without any build-up?
"Then the teacher cried with me."
Shen Ci'an's forehead vein throbbed. "Only the young lady should cry about this kind of thing."
“Oh, alright then,” Jiang Zhi finally agreed, then reminded him, “Then the teacher has to promise not to laugh at me.”
Shen Ci'an rubbed his temples helplessly. "I promise."
A rustling sound came from behind; Jiang Zhi had turned around and was facing away from him, burying half of her head in the blankets.
After a while, faint sobs could be heard coming from inside.
The voice was very soft, like the soft humming of a newborn kitten rubbing against a palm, the tone was soft and sweet, intermittent, with a sticky and charming quality.
Shen Ci'an looked at her disheveled black hair peeking out from under the covers in the darkness, and his breathing became erratic.
His nose was filled with her delicate fragrance, and her soft body lay beneath the covers. Although he knew she was faking her tears, her sobbing sounds were like the seductive chants of a siren, challenging his already fragile nerves.
His hands clenched tightly under the mattress, and his back was taut and straight.
"Master, are you done?" Her voice was muffled and sticky.
Shen Ci'an turned his head and glanced out the window.
The thin, dark figure was still there, even closer, probably wanting to listen more carefully.
“Keep crying, louder.” He said hoarsely.
Jiang Zhi was secretly annoyed.
Why is she the only one who's so tired, while Shen Ci'an seems completely relaxed, perhaps even secretly mocking her?
Jiang Zhi poked her head out from under the covers and wiped away the tears that had welled up in her eyes. "No, I can't cry anymore, I'm too tired."
Shen Ci'an said helplessly, "Miss, if we can't put their minds at ease tonight, your situation will be very dangerous, and they will no longer have any scruples in their actions."
The men in the village had long coveted her. If she weren't his fiancée, they would devour her the moment he left the village.
Jiang Zhi naturally understood this principle.
But she just didn't want Shen Ci'an to be able to get away with it so easily.
“You can continue crying,” she turned around, her watery eyes shining brightly in the darkness, “but I want to hold Master. It would be too strange for me to cry alone.”
