Chapter 341 I Regret It
The more Jiang Zhi listened, the more her brows furrowed.
Lu Yuan was usually cold, hard, and meticulous. Even when he drank, he would only drink a little and would never let himself get drunk.
Now that he has used up too much of his internal energy to save Shen Ci'an, he should be resting and recuperating properly. How could he still be drinking heavily for so long?
She was deeply worried. "I understand, Ye Qi. Thank you for telling me. I'll go to the Lu residence later to try and persuade him."
Lu Yuan, the commander of the Northern Garrison, would certainly not admit it easily. We should go directly to Lu's residence and catch him red-handed, and see what he has to say then.
"Thank you, Princess Qinghe," Ye Qi said with a smile, rubbing his head and then said shyly, "But I still have to ask you not to tell the eldest brother that I came to inform him, otherwise he will scold me again."
The eldest brother is really something. Every time he gets hurt or sad, he hides away and tries to process it all by himself, afraid that Princess Qinghe will find out and worry.
If I hadn't noticed it myself, I don't know how much longer I would have had to endure it.
How can we snatch Princess Qinghe from Lord Shen's hands like this?
It really gave him a lot of trouble.
Jiang Zhi naturally agreed.
As night fell, Jiang Zhi settled Shen Ci'an in and instructed Steward Lin and Qing Xing to take turns looking after him. Then, she put on a cloak and hood to avoid being seen and went to the Lu residence.
The gates of the Lu residence were tightly shut. After the knock was made, the gatekeeper, seeing that it was a woman wearing a veil whose identity was unknown, naturally did not allow her to enter easily.
"My master said that he will not see anyone who comes looking for him in the next two days. Please leave."
He was about to close the door when he said that.
Jiang Zhi thought for a moment and took out the jade pendant that Lu Yuan had given her at the Northern Garrison.
The gatekeeper was startled and quickly welcomed Jiang Zhi in.
The main house was completely dark, without even a candle lit, as quiet and deserted as if no one lived there.
The servant escorted Jiang Zhi to the door and then left.
Jiang Zhi pushed open the door and went in. Before she could see what was happening in the darkness, she was greeted by a strong smell of alcohol.
A tall man sat alone in the shadows, almost blending into the night. He hadn't changed out of his flying fish robes, only the gold thread embroidered on them gleaming coldly in the moonlight, like a lurking blade.
As he tilted his head back, the wine spilled out, and his Adam's apple bobbed abruptly in the shadows.
“Lu Yuan…” Jiang Zhi called out, removing her veil and cloak.
Lu Yuan seemed to only now realize someone had entered. He turned to look at her, raising an eyebrow. "What brings A-Zhi here?"
After saying that, he continued to drink slowly and deliberately.
Jiang Zhi stepped forward and then saw that several wine jars were now scattered haphazardly on the table.
"Why did you drink so much?" Jiang Zhi stepped forward, grabbed his arm, took the wine jar from his hand, and put it away.
"Well, there are so many things to do at the company, let's relax with a drink." He took his hand out of hers and then reached for the wine jar on the table.
"Stop drinking, Lu Yuan! What's wrong with you?" Jiang Zhi grabbed both of his hands, forcing him to face her, her dark pupils glaring at him.
Lu Yuan looked at her, then suddenly gave a self-deprecating smile, "A-Zhi clearly knows, so why did you still ask me?"
Jiang Zhi choked.
When Ye Qi told her, she guessed why Lu Yuan wanted to.
But now she doesn't know if or when her teacher will wake up, so she can't give him any guarantees or promises.
“Even so, you can’t drink like this. Your body needs to be recuperated. Last time you were stabbed with a dagger and poisoned while saving me. You were whipped by the Emperor a while ago. Now you’ve used up too much of your inner strength for the sake of the Master. Do you think you’re made of copper and iron? You’re not taking care of your body at all…”
Jiang Zhi spoke at length, but saw that Lu Yuan was just staring at her blankly. His drunken eyes had lost their usual sharpness and were now like a pool of moonlight, carrying a cold and alluring beauty, adding a touch of unconscious seduction.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she swallowed hard before continuing, "Besides, as a member of the Embroidered Uniform Guard, aren't you supposed to be constantly vigilant? Even in your own residence, what if your enemies come seeking revenge at night, and you're this drunk?"
Lu Yuan took her hands in his own, lowered his eyelashes, and said, "Okay, I understand. I won't drink it."
"Really?" Jiang Zhi asked, half believing it.
"Yes, A-Zhi is right. I was too indulgent." He was unusually not as domineering as usual, and lowered his head to admit his mistake.
Jiang Zhi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Lu Yuan is a man of his word; if he says he won't drink anymore, he really means he won't.
"Did you come here today specifically for me?" Lu Yuan asked again.
"I just happened to be passing by," Jiang Zhi said casually, remembering not to reveal Ye Qi's identity. "I thought I'd come in and see if you were asleep, but I never expected you to be drinking so heavily here."
Lu Yuan didn't dwell on the loopholes in her words, but carefully looked at her face and said, "You look much better than the last time I saw you."
"Well, I'm relieved to see you're alright," Jiang Zhi said. "Then I'll head back now."
Lu Yuan nodded. "Okay, I'll send someone to take you."
Jiang Zhi was somewhat surprised.
It seems Lu Yuan is really drunk tonight. Not only did he let her go so easily, but he also had someone else take her home.
However, she was worried about Shen Ci'an being home alone, so she decided to go back and keep an eye on him as soon as possible.
So he put the cloak and hood back on.
Just as she was about to open the door and leave, her wrist was suddenly tightened, and she was pulled back abruptly. She exclaimed in surprise and found herself sitting on Lu Yuan's lap.
His hot, alcohol-scented breath sprayed onto the back of her neck, and Lu Yuan's voice trembled through her back, "Ugh, I regret it. Stay with me a little longer before you leave."
Jiang Zhi's lips twitched involuntarily.
She knew it!
"Lu Yuan, let me get up first," Jiang Zhi said.
With her soft, fragrant body in his arms, Lu Yuan was reluctant to let go, burying his head in the crook of her neck. "Azhi, how can your heart be so hard?"
Jiang Zhi felt a ticklish sensation as his firm nose brushed against her, and tried to pull away, but Lu Yuan held her tightly, saying, "Let me hold you for a while."
His voice was low and deep, and his arms were outstretched and as hard as iron.
As he held her, his lips expertly traced her collarbone and chin upwards.
Jiang Zhi's chin was held by him, her lips slightly parted, soft and moist like a young beast hiding in a cave, trembling and concealed.
Lu Yuan's gaze deepened as he followed the nimble creature into his mouth, his breathing growing heavier.
"Ah Zhi, have a drink with me."
Jiang Zhi vaguely heard Lu Yuan's voice, took a deep breath and looked up, only to see Lu Yuan grab the wine jar on the table with one hand, but instead of bringing it to her lips, he took a sip himself.
Then he lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers, the cool wine flowing into her mouth through her lips.
The spicy liquor choked Jiang Zhi, bringing tears to her eyes. She glared at him, dissatisfied, "It's so spicy, I don't want this..."
Before he could finish speaking, Lu Yuan poured in his second mouthful without warning.
Jiang Zhi was completely enveloped in his broad embrace, her waist pressed against the edge of the table, unable to resist at all. Lu Yuan chased after her and made her drink several mouthfuls in succession. Suddenly, it felt as if something was burning in her heart, churning in her chest and scorching her limbs and bones, even her breath felt scorching.
