Chapter 102 Take off your clothes
Lu Yuan was waiting nearby when he heard the panicked cries and rushed over.
Seeing Jiang Zhi lying unconscious and pale in Xie Qi's arms, his pupils dilated in shock. "How could she be like this?"
Xie Qi pursed his lips tightly and didn't say anything. He picked her up, mounted his horse, and rode away.
Lu Yuan followed suit.
As darkness fell, the army set up camp on the spot.
The military doctor took Jiang Zhi's pulse through a gauze curtain, his expression grave.
"How is she?" Xie Qi asked anxiously.
"This young lady is weak in both qi and blood. She has been traveling a long way and has also suffered a fright, which is why she has a persistent high fever. Let me prescribe a medicine and she will be fine after a few days of proper recuperation."
The medic then asked, "But do you know if she has any other injuries?"
Lu Yuan's voice was deep, "Yes, she fell off the startled horse and was almost trampled. She sprained her ankle, her knees were scraped, and both her palms were cut by the reins. As for whether she had any other hidden injuries, we don't know."
Xie Qi became increasingly alarmed as he listened.
She cared about him so much that she was willing to take such a big risk to come and remind him.
He felt both pity and gratitude.
He was in a bit of a dilemma.
The military camp was full of men, and there were no maids at all. Who would check her body for any other injuries and then apply medicine to her?
The military doctor wrote out the prescription, left some wound medicine, and went out to brew the medicine.
Xie Qi and Lu Yuan exchanged a glance and came to her bedside almost at the same time.
"Lord Lu, I am very grateful that you escorted her here today, but this is my camp, and I hope you will leave." Xie Qi coldly gave him the order to leave.
Lu Yuan naturally knew what he was thinking, and just looked at him calmly, "No one knows better than me where she is injured. The one who should avoid this is General Xie."
Xie Qi chuckled, "When did Lord Lu become so enthusiastic?"
"If it weren't for my 'kindness,' it's uncertain whether you would have even met Miss Jiang today."
“Lu Yuan, don’t think that just because you saved her you can boss people around,” Xie Qi said. “Don’t forget this is the Divine Martial Army, an army under my command.”
“Unfortunately, I’m not your subordinate,” Lu Yuan said with a smirk. “If General Xie wants me to leave, he’ll have to see if you have the ability.”
Xie Qi was furious. "You think I wouldn't dare to lay a hand on you?"
Lu Yuan placed one hand on the Embroidered Spring Blade, "I have long heard of General Xie's superb martial arts and profound inner strength, and I have long wanted to learn from him."
“Okay,” Xie Qi said, his spirits rising, but he was still worried about Jiang Zhi. “Go outside, don’t disturb her.”
Lu Yuan had the same idea.
The two were about to fight outside the tent when Jiang Zhi groaned and woke up.
Xie Qi put down his sword and went to check.
Lu Yuan sheathed the sword and looked down at her.
Are you feeling any better?
"Where am I..." Jiang Zhi rubbed her aching temples and realized that she was in the middle of an army when she saw Xie Qi and Lu Yuan.
"By the way, what about that guard? Have you found him yet?" This was what she was most concerned about.
Xie Qi reassured her, "Don't worry, I've arranged everything. I'll go to the woods alone in the middle of the night to lure him out. You should rest and recover."
“No, that’s too dangerous.” Jiang Zhi thought for a moment. “You can call all the guards over, and I’ll help you identify them through the curtain.”
“But your illness…” Xie Qi hesitated.
Jiang Zhi insisted, "It's just a quick look, it won't take much time, and it's the safest way."
Xie Qi summoned all twelve of his personal guards into the tent, and Jiang Zhi recognized the man at a glance.
But the matter of rebirth was so bizarre that no one would believe it if she told them. Not wanting to make it obvious, she pretended to linger her gaze on each of the twelve people for a while before clearing her throat.
Xie Qi immediately received Jiang Zhi's signal.
He gave a few brief instructions to his guards and then dismissed them.
“It’s the third person on the left,” Jiang Zhi said confidently.
Xie Qi raised an eyebrow. "Alright, I'll go and make the arrangements. You can focus on recovering."
"What does Prince Xie intend to do?" Jiang Zhi asked again.
Xie Qi sighed softly, "It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that he hasn't done anything to betray us yet. If I punish him arbitrarily, it will only destabilize the morale of the army. I can only send someone to keep a close eye on him and deal with him when he makes a move."
Jiang Zhi could understand Xie Qi's concerns.
After all, it's impossible for Xie Qi to kill someone just because she points to them.
"Okay, then be careful."
Xie Qi nodded, his gaze falling on Lu Yuan.
"Take good care of Zhizhi, and we'll save our competition for next time."
Lu Yuan let out a soft hum from his chest, which was taken as his agreement.
After everyone in the tent had left, Lu Yuan walked behind the gauze curtain, sat down in silence, took out the medicine for his wounds, and calmly said, "Take off your clothes."
Jiang Zhi clutched the blankets around her, "I can do it myself."
Lu Yuan smirked, "You can see the wound on your back?"
She fell from the horse and must have suffered many hidden injuries. If these are not treated, her fever will be difficult to bring down.
Jiang Zhi knew that Lu Yuan was right, but this was Xie Qi's tent after all, and she was being asked to undress in front of Lu Yuan, which was extremely embarrassing.
Lu Yuan noticed her concerns. "Xie Qi has already sent people to guard the door. He's busy dealing with traitors and won't have time to come over. Don't worry."
“If your illness doesn’t get better, you’ll never be able to return to the capital,” Lu Yuan added. “You can keep it a secret for a day or two, but if a young lady from a noble family doesn’t come home for several days, what will become of your reputation?”
Jiang Zhi wasn't particularly concerned about her reputation.
However, she still needed to investigate the cause of her mother's death with the Prince of Xiang, and could not waste time recuperating.
So he glanced at Lu Yuan apologetically and said, "Please, Lord Lu, help me take off my clothes."
Lu Yuan remembered that both of her hands were injured and wrapped in gauze, so he nodded with a slightly stiff expression, sat down on the edge of the couch, reached over her waist, and untied her belt.
He closed his eyes to avoid suspicion, the girl's delicate fragrance lingering around his nose, and only opened them again after she said "It's done".
His pupils trembled.
Jiang Zhi had already turned around, and sure enough, there was a large patch of red and purple bruises on her fair and jade-like back, which looked shocking. It was hard to believe that a young lady from a respectable family could endure this for so long.
"Sit still, I'll apply the medicine for you."
He placed his broad, calloused palm on Jiang Zhi's back and gently massaged it with the medicinal oil to help the medicine spread.
"If it hurts, shout it out."
Lu Yuan's voice was cold, but his movements were very gentle. After applying the medicine to her back, he unwrapped the gauze from her palm and helped her clean and apply the medicine again.
After all her injuries were treated, Lu Yuan helped her put her clothes back on.
A short while later, someone came to see him, saying that the medicine had been prepared and was being brought in.
Lu Yuan then fed Jiang Zhi the medicine until she finished it.
After all that commotion, and with the addition of sedatives to her medicine, Jiang Zhi quickly succumbed to sleep and fell into a deep sleep.
Lu Yuan held the knife in both hands, leaning against the bed, pretending to sleep as he kept watch.
