Chapter 100: The Three Heroes of Jiangyin

"Your subordinate Chen Mingyu and your subordinate Yan Yingyuan greet Lord Zhao!" The two men saluted and said.

"You're welcome, both of you! I'm new in Jiangyin, and I'll have to rely on you for county affairs in the future!" Zhao Xiaokun said.

"Your Excellency is too polite! It is my duty to share your worries!" The two answered at the same time.

At this moment, the silent man at the door said, "Master Zhou, what we talked about last time..."

Zhou Yuntian interrupted and said, "I am currently in the process of handing over the matter to this Lord Zhao. If you have any questions, you can consult Lord Zhao!"

Zhao Xiaokun asked, "Who is this?"

"I'm Feng Dunhou, the county instructor. Greetings, Lord Zhao!" Feng Dunhou said. Feng Dunhou looked more refined and elegant, and he didn't look like someone who could defend a city! Zhao Xiaokun thought to himself, huh! These three are the legendary Three Heroes of Jiangyin, and they're all here today. They claim to be indifferent to life and death, and they'll fight to the death if they don't agree! They've been called the Three Flatheads of the Late Ming Dynasty online!

In the summer of 1645, the people of Jiangyin, led by Yan Yingyuan, the Jiangyin prefect, Chen Mingyu, and Feng Houdun, resisted the Qing Dynasty's hair-shaving order. Because the resistance lasted 81 days, it became known as the "81 Days of Jiangyin." In the end, the entire city was martyred, with no one surrendering. Three Jianlu princes and 18 generals were killed in the battle. Also participating in the siege were Bolo (Prince Duanzhong of the Qing Dynasty), Nikan (Prince Jingjin of the Qing Dynasty), and Kong Youde, the Gongshun Prince of the Qing Dynasty, who were later promoted to princes. The Qing army, with 240,000 soldiers and over 200 cannons, laid siege to the city, resulting in over 75,000 casualties. Jiangyin's 81-day defense resulted in nearly 100,000 casualties within the city.

These three were very capable in defending the city, so Zhao Xiaofei wanted to recruit them first and then promote them to important positions, at least to help him defend Nanjing City.

"I wonder what's the matter with Instructor Feng? Can I solve it?" Zhao Xiaokun asked.
