Chapter 161: Baixiang Town Massacre
Chang Ding led the Qing army into the homes of the people to rob food. A woman cried and begged them to leave some food for her.
"Please! Leave the food here! Leave it here! My child will starve to death!" The woman grabbed a Qing soldier and cried.
The soldier turned around and kicked the woman down, but she still knelt on the ground and held him back. The soldier said, "I don't care if you live or die. If you keep holding me back, I'll kill your son and eat his meat!"
But the woman still didn't let go, so the Qing soldier retaliated with a knife, knocking her unconscious. The woman's hand was injured, and blood immediately flowed out. The woman fainted from the pain. Her two children also ran over to her and cried loudly. The Qing soldier took a look and left.
The fighting intensified, and the Shun army engaged the Qing army for a day outside Baixiang Town. The Qing army suffered heavy losses, and Liu Rukui's troops advanced and surrounded the town. Li Yan also arrived with 500 cavalrymen, and the two armies joined forces to lay siege to the Qing army. However, by then, it was already dark, and the Shun army could only surround the town without attacking.
The Qing soldier who had robbed the woman of her food was running around, and the food had long been eaten up by him. He wanted to find another house to steal food from, but after searching many houses, he found that either no one was home or everyone had died.
He opened the door and found the fifteenth house he had visited. Inside, three Qing soldiers were cooking food in front of a pot, one of them adding salt. The one adding salt said, "Would you like a bite? This place is full of men, so there's plenty of meat!"
He turned and walked away because he saw that there was only a few pieces of meat in the pot, only a human foot. He seemed to remember that the woman in that family had two children and wondered if they were still alive. He could only go and see if he had any luck!
He left the house and went to the woman. He gently opened the door and saw the woman, using a broken bowl fragment to cut her arm and feed her two children with her own blood. She wanted them to live. With her last remaining strength, the woman held the two children down and licked their own blood. The two children cried as they drank their mother's blood.
That night, the two children looked like two blood-sucking ghosts, making the Qing army's scalp tingle. The woman scolded, "Drink up, you little bastards! If you don't want to die, drink up! I can't be with you, so you must find a chance to survive. Do you understand? Otherwise, even if I become a ghost, I won't let you go! Do you understand?"
The two little girls nodded while crying, but the smell of blood made it hard for them to swallow. Moreover, this blood was their mother's, so they really couldn't drink it.
The Qing soldier approached slowly, knife in hand. The woman stood up and said to her two children, "Run!" Then she rushed towards the Qing soldier. She wanted to use her body to hit the Qing soldier and give her children a chance to survive.
The Qing soldier raised his sword and slashed at the woman. With a loud thud, the sword pierced her stomach. The woman held the sword tightly, refusing to let go. With all her strength, she collapsed to the ground, taking the Qing soldier with her. The two children, seeing their mother fall to the ground, forgot her warning and ran back.
The Qing soldier stood up and said, "I'll repay your life in my next life! Your two daughters should accompany you! Living is worse than death! Don't be reborn into troubled times in your next life!"
After a while, the water in the pot boiled. Inside were six arms and six thighs. The Qing soldier was finally full. He hadn't eaten so much in days. As he left, he glanced at the house, which was already engulfed in flames!
The same thing happened in many families. After the food was seized, the officers were given food first. The soldiers, starving, had to eat human flesh. The entire town of Baixiang was filled with the aroma of meat.
The next morning, Li Yan led his troops into Baixiang Town to seize the fruits of victory from Liu Rukui. Everyone smelled the aroma of meat. Some people followed the others into the house, intending to rob and have a snack.
But when they entered the house, they saw the tragic scene: the mother, daughter and three of them were lying there, their arms and legs missing. They knew where the smell of meat came from.
Ah! A Shun army soldier roared! "These Jianlu are not human! Brothers, follow me! No one will be left alive!"
"Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive!" The Shun army was infected by this atmosphere and roared. They passed on what they saw and heard to every soldier, and all the Shun soldiers were inspired to have the blood of a beast.
They attacked the Qing army with all their might. Even when some of the Shun soldiers were wounded, they roared in anger. They opened their mouths and bit the enemy's neck, refusing to let go. Even after being stabbed many times, they still refused to let go. Their mouths were full of the enemy's blood, and they stared at the enemy, wanting to swallow him alive.
The anger suddenly boosted the Shun army's fighting power. The Qing troops in Baixiang Town were unable to resist and faced collapse. Jin Yuhe and Chang Ding were organizing a breakout! They knew that if they survived this time, they would be lucky to have only a hundred of the less than two thousand elite troops left.
"Charge! Charge for me! Get out alive, I, Jin Yuhe, will not treat you unfairly! Beautiful lady Jin, I will give it to you even if I have to sell everything I have!" Jin Yuhe shouted loudly.
"I, Chang Ding, swear here that Lord Jin and I are the same! If I violate this, I will be shot like this arrow!" After saying this, Chang Ding pulled out an arrow feather from his back and broke it in front of the soldiers.
"Follow me! Charge into a bright future! Charge into a future for you! Charge!" Jin Yuhe continued to charge eastward on his horse.
What a shame! These less than 2,000 men were no match for Liu Rukui and Li Yan's nearly 5,000 cavalry. They couldn't break out at all, and half of them were wiped out as soon as they reached the center of the town. The Shun army slowly narrowed the Qing army's range of movement. At this time, Liu Rukui rode forward and said, "Why don't you surrender quickly?"
But then, shouts erupted from behind Liu Rukui. "Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive!" Li Yan led his men over, his body stained dark red with blood. The soldiers behind him did the same, each holding a Qing soldier's head. Many of the heads were still dripping with blood, dripping onto the ground.
Liu Rukui turned around and said, "I want to live!"
Li Yan ignored him completely and continued to shout, "Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive!"
The ordinary soldiers around Liu Rukui also began to shout: "Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive! Leave no one alive!"
Liu Rukui looked at Li Yan in horror and said, "What are you going to do? Rebellion?"
The other soldiers ignored him and continued to narrow the encirclement. Li Yan shouted, "Ready! Shoot!" At this point, all the lower-ranking soldiers no longer listened to Liu Rukui's orders, but to Li Yan's. They fired all the arrows in their hands.
A hail of arrows decimated the Qing army. Li Yan shouted, "Charge! Leave no one alive!" All the Shun troops charged the Qing army. The two sides engaged in a fierce battle that lasted for an hour. Jin Yuhe and Chang Ding were shot like hedgehogs, their heads cut off and hung on the walls of Huaiqing Prefecture.
