Chapter 36 Family Tree
That evening, the eldest brother, Zhao Xiaokun, found the address. He finally understood how wealthy his younger brother had become: a villa, a company, and tens of millions in the bank. He was a true winner. He was genuinely happy for his brother, and he remained as supportive of his brother and Xiaomei's marriage as before.
At the dinner table, Zhao Xiaokun said to Jiang Xiaomei, "Xiaomei! We will be a family from now on. My brother will depend on you to take care of him. I'm toasting you a glass here. Xiaofei has been a little lazy and willful because of me. After you get married, please be more tolerant of him."
"Brother Xiaokun! From what you said, Xiaofei is a good person. We have been together almost since we were young, so there is nothing we can't tolerate. I hope I can attend my brother's wedding sooner in the future!" Jiang Xiaomei said.
"I don't have to worry about that. I don't even know where my girlfriend is!" Zhao Xiaokun was a little scared when he mentioned dating. He really didn't know how to fall in love.
"I believe it! Big Brother will have a girlfriend soon. I'll take care of it," Zhao Xiaofei said. He thought to himself, Guan Xin from the company is pretty good. He could introduce her to Big Brother. They used to be neighbors. But Big Brother was busy studying and didn't pay much attention to those little brats. Now that Guan Xin is grown up, he could consider matchmaking with Big Brother.
"Yes! Xiaofei, Xiaomei. You should pay more attention. If you get married during the Chinese New Year next year, your eldest brother will be the only one left at home. As long as there is a suitable person, you can introduce her to your eldest brother! Otherwise, your mother will be worried to death. You know your eldest brother best. He is honest and hardworking. He doesn't smoke or drink, and he has a house and savings. How can he not find a partner with such good conditions?" Liu Aiping said.
"Don't worry, Auntie. Many of my friends are single. They're young, pretty, and capable. When I'm ready, I'll let you see me first. If you're satisfied, I'll introduce you to my brother." Jiang Xiaomei quickly flattered Liu Aiping. Zhao Xiaofei thought to himself, wasn't it the time you told me in the kitchen that you were annoyed by my mom's fuss?
"Okay! But let me tell you, we don't want girls from the countryside! We don't want girls with a lot of brothers and sisters! I don't want girls from other places, especially Shanghai! Girls in Shanghai are very powerful, and they control men too strictly." Liu Aiping said.
What do Zhao Xiaofei and Zhao Xiaokun think about their mother? Zhao Xiaofei wonders if his mother is a little too arrogant. Aren't these requirements too many? Zhao Xiaokun thinks, Oh my god! I'm lucky to have found a partner! Why is she so picky?
Jiang Xiaomei said somewhat embarrassedly, "Auntie! Counting back three generations, who in our family isn't from a farming family? It's unnecessary, right? I've seen my classmates and colleagues who came from the countryside do quite well. They work diligently and are very motivated. I think that's not the case..."
Before Jiang Xiaomei finished speaking, Liu Aiping said, "That's your family, not other people's families. Auntie tells you, in our Zhao family, let alone the three generations ago, there have been no farmers in the eighteen generations. Xiaofei's father is a worker, and his grandfather was also a soldier during the Republic of China. Our family has a family tree, and there are records from the Ming Dynasty. We have always been military households, and later in the Qing Dynasty we were incorporated into the Green Camp. So auntie can say with confidence that there is really no one in our family who is of peasant origin. This condition cannot be changed." Liu Aiping began to tell the family history.
Zhao Xiaokun thought to himself, "That family tree is why you almost separated from my dad. You looked down on my dad's background. Now you're saying our family is good, so what were you doing back then?"
Zhao Xiaofei was relatively young and of course didn't know what happened at that time, but he thought that after returning to the Ming Dynasty, he could go and see his ancestors. Maybe he could make up a lie and let his ancestors help him do things, which would be the best.
Jiang Xiaomei was speechless after hearing what her future mother-in-law said, and could only smile awkwardly. Zhao Xiaofei asked his mother, "Mom! Do you still have that family tree? Can I take a look?"
"Yes! It's in the box where your father's belongings are kept! It's just a tattered book. If your father hadn't read it so often, I would have thrown it away long ago." Liu Aiping said.
"Mom! Let's go home and look for it. I like those things." Zhao Xiaofei said.
"Okay! I'll give it to you later!" Liu Aiping said. She didn't care about family trees at all; she only thought of them to show off. She had watched a dating show where a girl said the same thing as Jiang Xiaomei. She said everyone in our family came from a peasant family. Actually, she didn't mind peasant origins, but she just couldn't accept the girl's tone of voice. She thought to herself, if you met someone like my family, what would you say?
At night, the family did not stay in the villa. Zhao Xiaofei first sent Xiaomei home, and then drove home with his mother and eldest brother. When he got home, Zhao Xiaofei was busy looking for the family tree. He really found the family tree in the box. As his mother said, it was beginning to fall apart. After a careful look, it seemed to have been revised since the Qing Dynasty. The earliest ancestor recorded was Zhao Tianyou during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. He was the commander of Tianjin Wei. After flipping through it again, he saw Zhao Xinhui, the deputy commander of Tianjin Wei during the Chongzhen period. He was a relative of Feng Shengshi, the commander at that time.
Zhao Xiaofei smiled when he saw this. It seemed like he would have a chance to visit Tianjin and meet his ancestor. Maybe he could even bring a group of his own troops with him when he went south to Nanjing. They would then be called the Zhao Family Army.
Zhao Xiaokun saw his brother laughing as he flipped through the family tree and asked, "What are you laughing about? What's there to be happy about?"
"No!" Zhao Xiaofei shook his head.
"Are you really going to give me so much money?" Zhao Xiaokun said, holding the bank card.
"Really? What's wrong?" Zhao Xiaofei said.
Zhao Xiaokun flicked his bank card with his hand and said with a smile, "Hey! I finally see the return of my money! I never thought you could pay me back when I borrowed money from you before. This time, I don't have to worry about buying a house."
