Chapter 48 Brotherhood

Chapter 48 Brotherhood

Huang Qi hadn't heard from Jack in ten days. He felt he would never see his brother again. There was a high possibility he'd been murdered. He could only report Jack's disappearance to the company, claiming he'd disappeared while on a mission, and he pointed the finger at Zhao Xiaofei.

Qian Cong was anxious. The organization on the dark web had told him that they had lost one of their members, and the agreed price would have to be increased. The other party was a master, and they would suffer heavy losses in the future. If they wanted to continue the cooperation, the price would be doubled.

Professor Qian had just returned from a seminar abroad yesterday when his son called him over to his villa. He walked in and asked, "What's up? Why are you calling me over so urgently?"

"Dad! It's bad. One of them followed Zhao Xiaofei, and that person is gone. We don't know whether he is alive or dead!" Qian Cong said anxiously.

"Don't worry! How many days has he been missing?" asked Professor Qian.

"It's been 13 days! Have we been exposed?" Qian Cong said.

"Exposed? If I were exposed, would I still be able to go abroad for meetings?" Professor Qian asked back.

"Then what should we do?" Qian Cong asked.

"I will go to Zhao Xiaofei's company to meet them. It would be best if I could meet Zhao Xiaofei. I will definitely be able to see whether he knows or not. And you will go abroad immediately, to Uruguay. Our country does not have an extradition treaty with them. Even if something happens, they can't do anything to you for a while. When the time comes, you can take advantage of their investigation time and spend money to change your identity. No one can do anything to you!" said Professor Qian.

"Dad! What are you going to do then?" Qian Cong asked.

"Me? What can happen to me? The worst that can happen is that I'll go to jail. It's not like I committed a capital crime. If I don't die in jail, how many years can I live?" Professor Qian's words reflected the temperament of an old rogue who was fearless.

Professor Qian then drove to Zhao Xiaofei's company and met Jiang Xiaomei. In the office, Professor Qian asked, "Where has Xiaofei been lately? I haven't seen him in a long time, and I can't reach him even when I call him. Our exhibition is almost ready, is he just going to be a hands-off manager?"

Jiang Xiaomei smiled and said, "Mr. Qian, you're right. This Xiaofei is a hands-off boss. I haven't seen him for a month. Our two families have agreed to get married after the Chinese New Year, but I'm the one worrying about everything. Sometimes I get so angry that I really don't want to marry him anymore."

"Young people! You should work harder now. It is also to earn more money. It is for your future!" said Professor Qian.

"You're right! But when I first followed him, I never thought of a life like this. I just wanted to live an ordinary life." Jiang Xiaomei said.

"There are not many girls who think like you now. Other girls wish their husbands were rich and capable so that they can live a high and mighty life as wives of wealthy families. Xiao Fei is lucky to marry him!" said Professor Qian.

"Thank you for your compliment! By the way, the renovation of this house is almost done. Can you tell me when to move those cultural relics there?" Jiang Xiaomei said.

"How is the equipment debugging going?" asked Professor Qian.

"Everything is fine, except for the exterior wall which needs some repairs," said Jiang Xiaomei.

"Okay, I'll let you know once I've made the arrangements! It's hard to gather enough people with this expertise in a short time, so I'll go back and make a few more calls. By the way, how's the training of the security guards going?" Professor Qian asked.

"No problem! We have all the staff! They are all veterans!" said Jiang Xiaomei.

"That's good. With so many good things, it's inevitable that someone will have bad intentions. I'm worried that someone will steal or switch them. Okay! Then I'll go back and prepare. It will just take two days." Professor Qian said and stood up to leave.

"Mr. Qian, let's finish our meal before we leave!" Jiang Xiaomei said.

"No! The food outside is too oily. I'd better go home and eat! Let's go!" Professor Qian said and went downstairs.

Jiang Xiaomei didn't send him off, but continued working. Professor Qian returned to the villa to find Professor Hong. They had previously agreed that if he wanted to go into Zhao Xiaofei's basement to see the cultural relics, they had to go together. If Zhao Xiaofei noticed and wanted to go into the basement with Lao Hong, Lao Hong would definitely refuse.

When I saw Lao Hong, he said, "Where have you been? Hurry up, let's go to the basement to check something. I haven't touched it in several days."

Professor Hong and Professor Qian then went down to the basement, opened the door, and went inside to study the artifacts. Professor Qian randomly took a few items and examined them, finding that none had been swapped. This indicated that Zhao Xiaofei truly had no idea, and the truth had definitely not been revealed. There was a very good chance that there were other circumstances surrounding the man's disappearance. They simply hadn't considered them!

Zhao Xiaofei had been observing him for a long time and hadn't seen any signs of him returning to northern Myanmar. He felt the previous story was likely false, or partially false. The truth was that all the artifacts had already been moved here, and the place was already empty. His goal was to secure a long-term partnership with him.

Professor Qian now faced a choice: should he continue to wait? Or should he take action against these artifacts and find someone to forge and replace them? Now was a good opportunity. While Zhao Xiaofei was still here and Jiang Xiaomei still trusted me, he could swap the forgeries and make a fortune.

After much deliberation, Professor Qian decided to take action and select some quality items to switch. He began to examine and select his targets. He wore a pinhole camera and meticulously recorded the items to replicate at home.

Upon returning home, Professor Qian immediately called his son Qian Cong. "Hey! Are you on the plane?"

"Just about to leave! What's up, Dad?"

"Go ahead! You'll be back in two days. I've been there and nothing seems to be wrong. But we still have to wait a little longer! Let's proceed according to Plan B."

"Got it! I'll be in Beijing in a week." Qian Cong hung up the phone and boarded the plane. Plan B was what he and his father had agreed on. If the original plan went wrong, they would switch Zhao Xiaofei's artifacts. They would pick out the most valuable ones. His father had apparently realized that Zhao Xiaofei might not have noticed their actions, so he would execute Plan B.
