The light in the interrogation room was a bit dazzling.
Yu Nian sat on the chair, his fingers curled up unconsciously.
The first group of police officers who came to question the suspect were young and spoke in a polite tone, but their questions were sharp and direct, almost breaking down every detail of the incident.
Yu Nian forced himself to calm down and carefully recounted what had happened earlier.
After sending away the first group, before he could catch his breath, the second group of police came in.
This time, they were two experienced old detectives, their eyes as sharp as hawks, as if they could see through people's hearts.
Instead of repeating the previous questions, they tried to find loopholes in Yu Nian's words from the side using seemingly casual chat.
Yu Nian also wanted to clear himself of suspicion, so he answered very seriously.
After finally waiting for the second group to leave, Yu Nian was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when the door opened again.
The third group, a police officer who seemed to be of a higher rank, came with a recorder and conducted the interviews in person.
This time the questioning was more detailed and even began to explore some human perspectives and motivations.
"You and the injured person, do you really not know each other at all?" The policeman's eyes were as calm as water, but with unquestionable pressure.
Yu Nian met his gaze with a firm tone.
"Comrade police officer, I have never seen him before. I just showed up at the agreed time and place. When I entered the private room, I found him lying in a pool of blood. My only thought at that time was to save him and call the police."
After three inquiries, the experienced policemen looked at each other and had a rough judgment in their minds.
Yu Nian's confessions were highly consistent three times, and the details also stood up to scrutiny.
The timing of his appearance and the promptness of his calling the police were consistent with the normal reactions of an innocent discoverer.
If he was the murderer, he would never have put himself under the police's attention so quickly.
He can basically be ruled out as a suspect.
However, there was one detail that made several veteran detectives frown slightly.
"Young man," an older policeman said in a softer, yet still scrutinizing tone, "every time you mention the wound on that injured person, it seems... a little unnatural?"
Yu Nian's heart suddenly skipped a beat!
He tried his best to control his facial expressions, not letting himself reveal any flaws, and kept his voice as steady as possible.
"Comrade police officer, I... I've always been afraid of blood, especially when I see such... such a large wound, with blood all over the floor. It scares me. Even now, when I think about it, I still feel a wave of fear, so..."
His explanation is quite reasonable.
It is normal for ordinary people to feel frightened after suddenly witnessing such a tragic scene.
The old policeman nodded and didn't delve into it any further, but the doubt in his heart was like a drop of ink dropped into clear water. Although it was faint, it had not completely disappeared.
Just when the atmosphere in the interrogation room fell into a subtle stalemate again, the door of the interrogation room was pushed open with a creaky sound.
A young police officer who had been in charge of following up on the injured walked in quickly, with a look of relief and excitement on his face.
"Captain Wang, Director Liu! There's news from the hospital! The injured... the injured has woken up!"
"Awake?!" Several policemen were alerted almost at the same time.
"Yes! And his identity has been preliminarily verified!"
Yu Nian's eyes suddenly burst into dazzling brilliance.
He suddenly raised his head and stared at the police officer who reported the news, almost subconsciously confirming it.
"He...he really woke up?"
"Yes, he's awake." The young police officer nodded affirmatively.
When Yu Nian heard the young police officer's affirmative words, "Yes, he's awake," he felt relieved.
The string that had been stretched to the extreme since he came in suddenly broke, and he almost collapsed.
Excitement, relief, fear...all kinds of emotions surged into my heart like a tide, my eyes became hot, and I even felt a bit of uncontrollable bitterness.
In his entire life, he had never thought that he would be associated with the word "murder suspect". The invisible pressure almost crushed him.
At this moment, a familiar figure hurried over from outside the heavy glass door of the Public Security Bureau.
It was Yu Bai.
Although she walked quickly, she looked calm.
Just as he was about to step into the hall, he was stopped by the guard at the door.
"Comrade, this is the public security agency. Who are you looking for? What's the matter?" The guard's tone was formal and professionally alert.
Yu Bai took a deep breath, suppressed the anxiety surging in his heart, and briefly explained his purpose.
Upon hearing this, the guard looked at her carefully for a few seconds, then asked his superiors for instructions through the intercom for a moment before stepping aside and speaking.
"Go in and wait in the lobby waiting area. Don't walk around casually."
"Thanks."
Yu Bai thanked him and walked quickly into the slightly empty hall.
Almost at the same time, she saw Yu Nian coming out of an internal corridor, accompanied by the previous team leader, Officer Wang.
Yu Nian's face was pale, and his expression was a mixture of fatigue and relief.
"Third brother!" Yu Bai stepped forward quickly.
When Yu Nian saw Yu Bai, a smile of surviving a disaster finally appeared on his tired face, and his voice was still a little hoarse.
"Xiaobai, you're here. I...I'm fine."
Officer Wang also nodded to Yu Bai.
"Yu Bai, right? I'm sorry to have worried you. The situation is basically clear now. After the injured person woke up, he clearly identified someone else as the perpetrator. As for Yu Nian..."
He paused, and looked at Yu Nian with a hint of approval.
"Not only is he not suspected of committing a crime, but he remained calm in the face of danger and provided timely initial rescue to the injured, buying precious time for emergency treatment. He was a courageous act."
