Chapter 33 Eat Something Good

Lin Rui seemed to notice the change in Han Yi's aura, but he did not pause and continued:

"Wang Lei didn't come empty-handed. He brought back an astonishing amount of supplies, including food, medicine, and weapons... Almost overnight, the base's already stretched financially was greatly alleviated."

The only voice left in the conference room was Lin Rui's low narration.

"To be honest, Captain Han, during the years you were at the base, everyone remembered you very well."

Lin Rui raised his eyes and finally looked at Han Yi with a sincere look.

"You are fair, capable, and resourceful. With you here, even though the base is short of supplies, people's hearts are stable."

"When we heard the news about your accident, many people were truly sad for you, and many of them secretly wiped away their tears."

He paused, his tone filled with sarcasm and helplessness.

"But in the end times, what's the most important thing? Survival."

"When the mountains of supplies appeared before my eyes, the huge surprise and hope of survival quickly diluted everything."

"How long can sadness and regret last? After a few days, everyone started to gather around Wang Lei."

"He's the son of the head of the base, and he brought life-saving supplies, so he naturally became the new backbone."

Lin Rui smiled bitterly.

"Wang Jiancheng took advantage of the situation and supported Wang Lei to take over most of the base's affairs. The traces of your existence are like footprints in the snow, easily covered by a new heavy snowfall."

There was no expression on Han Yi's face, only a hint of coldness flashed across the depths of his eyes.

He could imagine such a scene, where human nature of seeking profit and avoiding harm was infinitely magnified in the end times. He was not surprised, but the stinging feeling of betrayal in his heart was still clear.

"Of course, there are some people, especially those who used to be close to you, who feel that something is wrong, or simply don't accept Wang Lei's opinion."

Lin Rui's tone became even lower.

"But at that time, most people were immersed in the ecstasy of having enough supplies. Who would listen to those 'inappropriate' voices?"

"Either they were ostracized as outcasts, or... they were suppressed by Wang Jiancheng and his son using various means. The opposition quickly died down, as the arm could not prevail."

Having said that, Lin Rui's expression became extremely solemn, even with a hint of fear.

"But they were all wrong. Those survivors... they thought good days were coming, but they had no idea what kind of person was pushing them up."

"Wang Lei,"

Lin Rui spoke each word with a chilling chill in his voice.

"He's a complete 'superpower-only theorist.' In his eyes, only those with powerful superpowers deserve to live and possess resources."

"Ordinary people? Or low-level psychics like us who have little combat power?"

Lin Rui twitched the corners of his mouth in self-mockery, but there was no smile in his eyes.

"In his eyes, it's just a burden that wastes food and garbage that can be thrown away at any time."
