Chapter 146: Seeing Each Other

The next morning, the door of Yu Sheng's ward was gently pushed open.

Then, a slightly noisy sound of footsteps was heard.

Yu Bai looked up and saw a group of doctors in white coats entering one after another.

The leaders had serious expressions and extraordinary demeanor, followed by a large team of young doctors and nurses.

"Routine ward rounds."

The middle-aged doctor in the lead spoke concisely, but his eyes inadvertently swept over Yu Bai who was standing beside him, with a hint of subtle inquiry.

Yu Bai's heart moved slightly, but his face remained calm.

Ward rounds?

This scene is a bit too big.

Six hours after my brother's surgery, the attending physician came with two assistants, carefully checked all the indicators, and confirmed that everything was stable.

Ward rounds back then were professional and efficient, and definitely not as...heavy-handed as they are today.

What's more, the people in charge in front of him had a calm aura and sharp eyes, and they didn't look like ordinary doctors in the department at all.

Rather than coming to check on the ward, it would be more accurate to say that he came... specifically to see someone.

Yu Bai captured this point keenly.

Their eyes did not linger too much on the cold medical instruments or hanging medicine bottles, but instead frequently fell on Yu Sheng's face on the hospital bed.

There was an undisguised scrutiny and examination in his eyes, as if he wanted to see through the young man lying on the bed from inside to outside.

This is not the kind of concern that an ordinary doctor shows to his patients.

Yu Sheng, who was lying on the hospital bed, naturally felt this unusual attention.

He turned his head slightly to meet those curious, inquiring, or cautious gazes without dodging at all.

He just lay there calmly, with a frank expression, allowing them to look at him.

That calm demeanor actually caused a hint of surprise to flash across the eyes of several doctors who were originally looking at him with scrutiny.

The atmosphere in the ward was subtly stagnant for a moment.

At this moment, the leading doctor, who had gray hair, gold-rimmed glasses and looked quite experienced, suddenly stepped forward with a kind smile on his face.

"Good recovery, young man."

As he spoke, he naturally stretched out his hand, placed it on Yu Sheng's wrist, and gently pressed with his fingertips, making a pulse-taking gesture.

Yu Bai's eyes narrowed slightly.

Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis?

In this western hospital, it is performed by a western doctor who is obviously of high status?

Sure enough, the old doctor slowly felt the pulse while casually chatting with Yu Sheng. His voice was gentle, but it had an undeniable penetrating power:

"Young man, where is your home?"

Yu Sheng paused and replied calmly, "From Jiangcheng."

"Oh, Jiangcheng, a nice place." The old doctor nodded and continued, "How many people are there at home?"

This question seems a bit too personal.

Yu Bai's heart skipped a beat and he looked at Yu Sheng.

Yu Sheng's eyes swept over his sister, as if to comfort her, and then he slowly said: "My father died young, and there are many brothers and sisters in my family. Including my mother, there are seven in total."

The old doctor's fingers paused slightly on Yu Sheng's wrist, a barely perceptible glint flashed in his eyes, and then he returned to his amiable demeanor, his tone carrying just the right amount of concern:

"How did you get your leg injured? It looks pretty bad. How many years has it been like that?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the eyes of almost all the doctors in the ward were focused on Yu Sheng's plastered leg.

There is a silent sense of exploration in the air.

Yu Bai understood clearly: they were not here just to check the ward.

These questions may seem like everyday matters, but in fact every one of them is asking about the eldest brother's family situation.

In a flash, a thought struck Yu Bai's mind like thunder!

Sister Fan Qi!

These seemingly casual inquiries were all about my eldest brother's family background and health...

This isn't a ward round at all, it's clearly... a visit!

Realizing this, Yu Bai's heart was shaken, and an indescribable sense of tension instantly gripped her heart.

She had to help her eldest brother make a good impression on the Fan family.

Almost subconsciously, she hurriedly bent down and tried frantically to take out disposable paper cups from the bedside table to pour water for these doctors with "special identities".

This is a major matter concerning my brother's future happiness, and we cannot neglect it!

However, as soon as her hand touched the cabinet door, a warm hand gently pressed her arm.

"Don't worry, little girl."

A gentle female voice sounded.

Yu Bai looked up and met a pair of smiling eyes.

The person who spoke was a female doctor in her fifties, with a gentle temperament and a friendly smile. She was one of the people who had just stood beside the old doctor, with the same inquiring eyes.

"We are just doing routine rounds to check on Mr. Yu. He will be fine soon." She gently patted the back of Yu Bai's hand, her tone soothing, "Don't be nervous. Just do what you need to do."

These seemingly considerate words made Yu Bai more certain of his guess.

If it was just a routine ward round, why would they specifically reassure the family members, "Don't be nervous"?

Yu Bai took a deep breath, suppressed the waves in his heart, and gave the female doctor a slightly awkward but decent smile.

"Okay, thank you, doctor."

She stood up and quietly stepped aside, leaving space for them.

But his eyes were fixed on the old doctor who was still taking his eldest brother's pulse, and his heart was tense.

The ward fell into a subtle silence again, with only the subtle sound of the old doctor's fingertips rubbing his wrist and the occasional ticking of the instrument.

Time seems to be stretched...

“Eh—?”

In this silence, a cry full of surprise and uncertainty broke the peace without any warning!

The sound was not loud, but it was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, instantly stirring up a thousand waves!

It was sent by the old doctor who took my pulse!

In an instant, the air in the ward seemed to freeze!

Not only Yu Bai, but even the doctors and nurses who were just watching nearby felt their hearts in their throats.

Everyone's eyes were focused on the old doctor and the eldest brother's wrists!

Yu Bai's heart thumped and almost jumped out of his chest!

What's wrong?

Is there something wrong with my brother's health?

Are there any side effects from the surgery?

The old doctor frowned, and his originally kind face was now full of disbelief.

He raised his head and his sharp eyes swept over Yu Sheng on the hospital bed again, then he looked down at his fingers pressing on his pulse, as if confirming something.

"This... this operation was just completed yesterday?" He finally spoke, his voice full of obvious confusion and shock, looking straight at Yu Sheng and asked.

Without waiting for Yu Sheng's answer, he seemed unable to understand and muttered to himself, asking himself more than asking others:

"...But this pulse...how could it be so strong and powerful? Steady, peaceful, and full of vitality...This doesn't seem like the pulse of someone who's just undergone major orthopedic surgery and has suffered severe damage to their Qi and blood..."
