Chapter 107 The War of Civilizations 7
Feeling a strange sense of dread, the three of them turned around and looked back when they saw Lin Xia's gaze.
Xie Cheng's expression darkened further, and A Tong pursed her lips tightly. Ji Wei took a screenshot and sent it to the group chat, causing Lazy Cat to exclaim in surprise.
“I think we’ve been discovered.” Ji Wei’s expression remained calm.
Lin Xia glanced at the 'nano-devouring insect' in the spatial button, then tossed the spatial button into her own space.
"I threw the spatial button into the space. I feel that this 'nano-devouring insect' is too uncontrollable. Do you guys have any thoughts?" Lin Xia asked.
Ji Wei tossed it into his spatial storage: "I think Seventh Sister is right. Can these nanodevouring worms decompose our mechs? And our warships? Couldn't it just be a suicidal end?"
“Very likely. Nano-devouring worms. None of us know anything about them. We don’t know what will happen after they devour metal, or even the conditions that trigger them.” A-Tong also threw them into her space.
"But if their plan fails because of our lack of cooperation, will it affect the entire planet's combat plan?" Xie Cheng frowned, somewhat worried.
However, he still threw the spatial button into the space and said in a deep voice, "But no matter what, it's best to take the initiative into our own hands."
The group chat was buzzing with activity, and Lazy Cat finally chimed in.
"The entire planet is on edge today. As expected, I wasn't selected for the Fireseed Project. Now, I'm with a civilian organization and we've found an abandoned underground security fortress. Inside, we discovered a lot of abandoned mechs."
"It is said that these mechs were built when AI still existed here, but they were abandoned because mechanical civilizations could easily take control of them, and the cost of modification was too high."
"I'm currently buying energy blocks everywhere, planning to wander in space. There are still many abandoned mechs here, but only a few people have the mental strength to control them. I'll send you the address; if you can come back, this is a way out." After saying this, Lazy Cat quickly disappeared again.
"I've discovered that Lazy Cat has a rather unique talent for escaping," Ji Wei remarked.
"What do you mean?" A-Tong asked, puzzled.
"He always manages to find the best escape route very quickly." Xie Cheng had witnessed this twice and benefited from it.
"Then isn't he the chosen one?" A-Tong exclaimed.
"Hahahaha, if that's how you talk, I have so much to say." Lazy Cat jumped back again.
“I’m still in the enemy camp, I don’t have time,” Ji Wei replied immediately.
......
After a few words, everyone relaxed a bit, and a huge underground passage appeared before them.
"Sir, we've arrived. We want to know what our mission is." As soon as Lin Xia spoke, all three of them turned their gaze to the man with the buzz cut.
The other two newcomers looked hesitant, but the five veterans all frowned and looked at Lin Xia with hostility.
"As soldiers, all you need to do is follow orders!" the crew-cut man said in a deep, displeased voice.
"As a mission taker, how do you know how to customize a combat plan or devise mission steps?" Lin Xia looked at him calmly.
"I told you, you only need to follow orders. Do whatever I tell you to do."
"Don't they know the battle plan either?" Seeing the unfriendly expressions on the faces of the six people opposite him, Ji Wei stepped forward and stood to Lin Xia's right.
“They’re different from you.” The man with the buzz cut frowned, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.
"What's the difference? You're mission takers, and we're cannon fodder?" A-Tong stepped forward to Lin Xia's left, her tone sarcastic.
The man with the buzz cut looked at Xie Cheng, who stood behind Lin Xia with his arms crossed and was also looking at him with a sullen face, and his expression finally darkened.
“Not telling you is to ensure the information won’t leak to the greatest extent possible. No one who came here today wants to leave alive. Don’t cause trouble.” The man with the buzz cut gripped the weapons at his sides tightly.
Lin Xia stared at them: "What's the reason? If you suspect us so much, why did you bring us here in the first place?"
An impatience flashed in the buzz-cut man's eyes, and he muttered, "I told you not to gather familiar people together..."
He glanced at the four of them impatiently: "Come if you want, or...heh...if you make it back alive, I'll report you as deserters."
After saying that, he ignored the four people and turned to leave.
"What's wrong, Seventh Sister?" Ji Wei looked at Lin Xia with a puzzled expression as she watched the person walk away.
A-Tong glanced at Xie Cheng, who was also looking at Lin Xia with a puzzled expression. Her eyes flickered. Was this trust?
Lin Xia had been trying to find a breakthrough in their spatial nexus, and just now she found it. These people's spatial nexus only contained 'nano-devouring insects' and no other weapons.
Lin Xia guessed that these people were going to perish together with each other, while he and his group were fighting against the last remaining robots. The final outcome was still uncertain, but the mechs would definitely be devoured.
She shared her thoughts in the group chat, but still followed along. She didn't understand why she had to bring them along; it seemed completely unnecessary...
They walked for a long time without any guards. When they reached the underground, the lights came on, and they were all astonished to see a vast number of machines of various shapes and sizes underground.
"What is this?" one of the newcomers exclaimed.
The man with the buzz cut looked a little better when he saw them following him, and explained in a deep voice, "This is their reserve team, which has not yet been activated."
Lin Xia's mental energy extended further, and her complexion grew increasingly worse.
A-Tong blinked, numbers flashing in her eyes, and her face darkened. She and Lin Xia exchanged a glance, both looking somewhat heavy-hearted.
The man with the buzz cut took a deep breath, looked at his old comrade-in-arms, and laughed heartily: "Ready?"
The group exchanged glances, their eyes filled with heaviness, relief, and regret, but they all smiled as they looked at each other.
"Wait a minute, how do you know this is their military reserve and not just waste?" Lin Xia glanced at the man with the buzz cut.
The man with the buzz cut changed his expression, a look of astonishment in his eyes: "What are you talking about?"
"Didn't you see? The dust on those machines in the distance is so thick!" A-Tong said incredulously. Even with ordinary night vision goggles, she could see clearly.
The man with the buzz cut frowned: "Behind this glass is their intelligent mechanical incubator. If even one hatches successfully, it will be a huge disaster for us. Therefore, this place must be destroyed."
"To destroy a possibility here, sacrificing a few elites like you who have been trained in the military for several years is simply not worth it," Ji Wei frowned, puzzled.
"How dare you question the captain's decision?" The men's eyes flashed with ferocity, including the two newcomers.
"Won't she make a mistake?" Xie Cheng was also puzzled. No matter how you looked at it, this place was almost abandoned. Even the robots might have given up on it. Why were they going to sacrifice themselves for these junk?
Just as someone was about to make a move, the man with the buzz cut stopped them, giving them a cold look: "Alright, the mission is important. Now that we're here, it's not like they can just refuse to do it because they don't want to."
