Chapter 146 Eternal Paradise 9
"What are you doing!" Jiang Ying exclaimed sharply when she saw Lin Xia take both water bottles away.
Wang Jiarong seemed to have just come to her senses, her face darkening: "Jiang Ying, what are you saying? We agreed before that we would each take care of our own food and water."
"Lin Xia, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, it's just that..." Wang Jiarong gritted her teeth, "Everyone woke up too late, and my mother isn't feeling well, so we didn't manage to get that much water. How about this, we'll borrow your water and pay you back double when we get there."
“Yes, young lady, it’s dangerous for you to be alone. We have a car and satellite navigation, so it’s not unreasonable for you to take out some water,” Wang Jiarong’s mother, who had barely said anything, also advised.
Lin Xia didn't really care about some water, since it was a mutually beneficial arrangement. She couldn't just back up someone else's car and GPS and then walk away, but she wasn't going to take it lying down.
“Girl, don’t be angry. Look at the sky. Without a car or navigation, how are you going to get to the base? Jiang Ying is spoiled. Don’t pay attention to her. Let’s help each other. When we get there, I’ll make it up to you as I should. I still have some connections. Once we’re on the spaceship, I can still hold my own.” Professor Huang said sincerely.
"No need." Lin Xia glanced at Professor Huang and turned to leave.
"Brother! Stop her! She's taken it all, and we don't have much water left." Jiang Ying anxiously grabbed her brother's clothes.
When she turned around and saw Lin Xia holding a gun, and remembered that she had just casually tossed the grenade into the mouth of the strange insect, she immediately fell silent.
Jiang Kai was annoyed that his sister had said something inappropriate that offended someone, but he didn't believe the person could actually walk to the base: "My sister misspoke, I apologize, but now is not the time to be quarrelsome, we need to get going, we..."
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Xia turned and left. Fighting against evil, though goodness may remain, leaves one physically and mentally exhausted. There is no need to do good and suffer at the same time.
When you encounter people or things you don't like, staying away is the key to mental and physical well-being. There's no need to waste time thinking about things that make you unhappy, as it greatly affects your ability to be kind to others.
Lin Xia's figure slowly disappeared into the swirling yellow sand. Everyone in the car was stunned, never expecting that she would actually leave.
Lin Xia, walking along the road, browsed through the backup area, found a modified off-road vehicle, and after she could no longer see those people, she redeemed it and sped away.
Shaking off the sand, Lin Xia activated the satellite navigation. Her skin was unbearably dry, so she poured water on her face and washed it, but the water evaporated quickly, making her feel even worse.
Seeing that the person had really left, Jiang Ying shrank her neck and dared not speak. Jiang Kai sat in the driver's seat. At this moment, the wind picked up again. Fortunately, the buildings were buried, so there was no need to drive carefully anymore.
"Ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling..." Lin Xia heard the sound and saw a long caravan of camels ahead. There were old people and children in the caravan. Apart from the sound of the camel bells, everyone was quiet. They wore veils or hats on their heads and had bloodstains on their mouths.
Seeing her car approach, Lin Xia received several envious glances, while the adults watched her car warily.
But all the camels were just going around in circles, refusing to move forward. Some even sat down, and no matter what they did, they couldn't be pulled up.
"Stop pulling! Get down! A sandstorm is coming! Encircle the camels, quick, quick, quick! Lie down, lie down!"
Before she finished speaking, Lin Xia saw the distant sky turn red as it drew closer, and more and more sandstorms were flying around, hitting the glass with a clattering sound.
The camel caravan members were very skilled; they quickly formed a circle with several camels, and the people, holding water and food, lay down inside the circle.
There was only sand as far as the eye could see, with no buildings to provide any shelter. Lin Xia quickly stopped the car, got off, and crawled under it, keeping a short distance from the people.
The wind howled, deafeningly loud, and the gap in front of Lin Xia was instantly filled. She took out the [Earth-type Ability Card] and controlled the sand to leave her a space to breathe.
Soon, the entire sky darkened, and the entire earth seemed to tremble and rumble.
The car above her head began to sway and bounce. Lin Xia watched as layers of sand walls, like ocean waves, rushed towards her. She felt terrible. The wind couldn't blow her away, but the sand could bury her.
With earth-elemental energy surging in her hands, a wall of earth rose from the ground not far away, standing in front of her and those nearby.
The sandstorm crashed against the earthen wall, and most of it was stopped, but the sand in front of them continued to rise rapidly, constantly being pushed away by earth-based abilities.
When things finally quieted down, Lin Xia dug through the sand and crawled out from under the car. She then heard cries and screams; someone had been blown away by the sandstorm.
Seeing that the car was more than half buried, Lin Xia was too lazy to dig anymore. When she saw the people looking at her warily, she turned around and left.
Not long after she left, some children discovered the supplies in the car, especially the water, and immediately started shouting.
When the adults arrived and saw that there was still gasoline, they worked together to dig the car out. When they discovered the satellite navigation system inside the car, that was another pleasant surprise.
Lin Xia was sitting in another car, and the sand in her mouth never stopped. The apocalypse in this world wasn't that dangerous for Lin Xia, but the dryness was unbearable.
The weather was getting worse, but she was also meeting more and more people, which meant she was heading in the right direction.
Finally, she saw the towering, eggshell-like base, which gleamed brightly in the sunlight, so bright it hurt her eyes.
Upon closer inspection, there were rows of cars and people queuing along the roadside, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Lin Xia took the package and got off the bus. After walking for 20 minutes, she saw that the area was fenced off, electrified, and filled with armed men.
No wonder there were people everywhere along the way, some crying and some making a scene, but no one forced their way through.
As I got closer, I heard many people saying that only those who passed the exam could go in directly, and the rest would only be considered if there were any vacancies.
Lin Xia took out her phone, walked over, showed the text message, then removed her mask, scanned her face, and went inside.
After going inside and walking a long way, Lin Xia was led to an elevator leading underground. As the elevator doors opened, Lin Xia saw a spaceship. People were busy around her, moving things, unloading goods, and there was a constant flow of vehicles and people.
After registering her, scanning her face, iris, and fingerprints, and then giving her a watch and glasses that resembled a terminal, telling her to figure it out herself, Lin Xia was taken to the spaceship's dormitory area.
Upon entering, I found it was a four-person room with bunk beds, but it looked quite comfortable. There were already two people inside, one on the top bunk and one on the bottom bunk.
Both of them were lying on the bed wearing glasses, and they didn't react when Lin Xia came in.
She opened the door and listened in the hallway, but it was still completely silent. Was the soundproofing really that good?
