Chapter 46 Torrential Rain and Extreme Cold? 4
Chapter Forty-Six
Lin Xia ran on the ice. The temperature didn't affect her too much, but there was frozen trash, broken glass, and frozen cars and shared bicycles on the road, so she had to be careful where she stepped.
The streets gradually became lively, especially as people trapped in office buildings came out to try to go home or find food and water. Some people, having heard what Lin Xia said, decided to seek refuge in air-raid shelters.
Some people were wearing roller skates and traveling alone; some had their children and luggage in bathtubs and were pulling the tubs forward with ropes; some were helping each other; and some were pushing bicycles, carrying luggage, and wearing helmets or pot lids on their heads.
What they had in common was that they were all dressed in thick layers, with hats, scarves, and gloves, and some were even wrapped in blankets.
Lin Xia continued forward, and when she passed an intersection, she found that there were many people blocking the way.
As she extended her mental energy forward, she could only see that the road was blocked on both sides, with people jostling in the middle. She couldn't see anything beyond the intersection, so she could only ask the people in front of her, "Excuse me, why is there a traffic jam ahead?"
The man glanced back at her; he was completely covered up, so her face was obscured. "It looks like they're collecting tolls up ahead. You have to pay before you can pass."
Lin Xia frowned: "What? They're charging tolls at this hour? And there's only one road?" It's only the second day of the game.
"Shh, they just killed someone, keep your voice down!" The man looked around, then turned away and remained silent.
Lin Xia checked the time; it was 3 PM. It was already quite dark, and she could even see flashes of lightning through the clouds. This was a matter of life and death, and everyone was gathered here. Weren't they afraid that it would hail again? Even if it rained heavily, they couldn't withstand it.
Looking back, she saw more and more people gathering. The girl next to her, who was wrapped in several layers of clothing, said, "This is a main road, the closest one. The restaurant that caught fire is right next to it, and the entrance is piled with garbage, making it even harder to walk." It was too late to turn back now.
Lin Xia had been feeling a sense of urgency, and she couldn't care less about that now. She pulled out her pistol and fired three shots into the air. The people in front of her screamed and dodged, looking at her in horror.
Looking at the cleared path ahead, she walked across the intersection and saw more than a dozen people standing there with machetes, the one in front holding a gun.
Seeing Lin Xia approach, he immediately raised his pistol and aimed it at her. Just as he was about to speak, the woman vanished in an instant. Immediately afterward, he felt a sharp pain in his wrist, and the gun slipped from his hand.
The dark muzzle of a pistol was pointed at his forehead, and he cried out in terror, clutching his hand, "Spare me! Spare me! Spare me! I just collected some food and clothes, I didn't do anything else!"
The man with the machete behind him was so frightened that he took several steps back. Lin Xia saw the gunshot wounds on the heads of five or six dead bodies on the ground next to her and kicked the man to the ground without hesitation. "Bang!"
"ah--"
People screamed and backed away. The men with machetes behind them turned and ran in fright. Lin Xia said, "Leave your weapons!" He then fired another shot, and the men dropped their machetes and ran away.
She put away her pistol, checked that she wasn't splattered with blood, and, too lazy to chase after anyone, was in a hurry to get going.
Just as I was about to leave, I heard a man's voice behind me.
"Hey, what's wrong with you? You could have just chased them away, why did you have to kill them? It's only the second day of the disaster, everyone should be working together to get through this difficult time, you're completely lawless!"
“Yes… he’s a murderer.” The woman behind him said loudly, and several other people behind them said the same thing.
Lin Xia's eyes flashed with impatience. Where did this saint come from? Can't they see the dead people on the ground?
Too lazy to waste words, she turned around and fired a shot at the man's feet. The man reacted quickly, jumping away and raising his hand to shoot a fireball at her.
Lin Xia took a small step to the left and dodged the fireball. It turned out to be a player. If a player talks like that, they're not a saint; they're just looking for trouble.
Without further ado, he lashed out with the vines in his hand, whipping the group of people. Before they could react, they were struck hard by the whip and fell heavily to the ground.
"Ah! Brother Feng, help me!" the woman screamed shrilly.
Feng, who was still standing there after being whipped, looked at Lin Xia with a serious expression, then smiled and said, "So you're a player too. Sorry, I didn't know that. You see, we're both players, from the same world. Shouldn't we work together to clear the game?"
Lin Xia glanced at the man impatiently. Was he crazy? Just as she was about to move the vine in her hand, a chilling feeling suddenly enveloped her.
Without a second thought, Lin Xia darted into the broken window next to her. Just as she disappeared, a bolt of lightning struck the spot where she had just stood, creating a deep crater in the ice.
Everyone looked up at the sky, where lightning crackled and filled the entire sky, almost shattering it.
"Hide!" Lin Xia shouted. People screamed and scrambled into the building, but there were too many people gathered there. People pushed and shoved each other, all trying to get into the building first. Some people were pushed to the ground and trampled so badly that they couldn't stand up.
However, because they were dressed in thick clothes and were bulky, people climbed into the window very slowly. They might be pulled down from below before they could even climb up, fall down and be trampled on, and couldn't get up at all. Only when the crowd below was high enough could the people behind climb into the window.
......
Just a few seconds later, lightning struck down with crackling sounds. Lin Xia quickly retreated and hid in a place where there was no metal.
The screams, curses, and shoving sounds outside were gone, but Lin Xia could hear a continuous rumbling in her ears for a good ten minutes before it stopped.
Outside, all was quiet. After a long while, cries and screams finally broke the silence. Lin Xia looked outside and saw people convulsing from being struck by lightning, people blown to smithereens, and elderly people and children trampled to death...
People knelt on the ground, crying out the names of their deceased relatives. Someone was crying because his leg had been grazed by lightning and he had lost feeling in it. Beside him were women and children who were overjoyed and were crying uncontrollably while holding him.
The child, squeezed into a corner and sitting in a basin, was crying loudly. In front of him were his parents, who had shielded him from the lightning strike but were not hit, and were holding him tightly and crying.
......
Lin Xia blinked, her fists clenched tightly. A thought flashed through her mind—if she didn't use the megaphone to shout, would these people still come out of their homes...?
Shaking her head, Lin Xia rejected the feeling of self-blame. If they didn't come out and find a way out, there would only be one outcome: death. By letting them know the location of the safe zone in advance, she was clearly saving them.
Looking around, Feng Ge and his group were nowhere to be seen. I didn't know if they were hiding or had already left.
Seeing that the people were still gathering outside, Lin Xia shook her head and ignored them.
Fortunately, they knew it was dangerous outside, so they quickly wiped away their tears and helped each other climb into the house. The stairwell was probably the safest place, and almost everyone was gathered there.
Seeing the people looking at her with a mixture of longing and fear, all gathered not far from her, Lin Xia ignored them and went inside to look outside.
