Chapter 78 Gene Invasion 4

Chapter 78 Gene Invasion 4

Lin Xia thought for a moment, took out the throwing knives and counted them. There were 14 knives. She then exchanged them for a set of 9 knives and used gold element cards to enhance them.

After consuming two gold element cards to enhance all 23 throwing knives, I started body forging again.

It was 12 o'clock, and Lin Xia lay down to sleep.

She had just fallen asleep when a scream came from afar. Her eyes snapped open, her ears twitched, and she heard the sound of something gnawing and digging in the ground.

Lin Xia's mental energy surged into the ground, where he saw rats digging a hole. Their eyes were bloodshot and their expressions were crazed. Lin Xia slung his backpack over his shoulder, took out a long knife, enveloped his entire body with mental energy, and warily watched the ground.

She noticed that the dog-faced man next door had also become wary, holding a hiking stick and carrying a spear made of twigs in his backpack.

Lin Xia watched as the floor tiles were lifted up, and huge rats, larger than normal cats, darted out. She flew around with her throwing knives, slicing off rat heads one by one. As more and more rats were being turned upside down, she simply took the throwing knives underground to finish them off, so that she wouldn't have nowhere to stand in a while.

The screams rose and fell, because most people lived on the first floor in fear of the building collapsing. As soon as the rats came out, chaos ensued.

Fortunately, because of the bloody smell from next door, most of the rats came to their side, and there weren't many outside.

The dog-faced man was very strong, had excellent aim, and was very agile in dodging, so he didn't seem dangerous.

These rats looked frantic, but they weren't unaware of fear. When Lin Xia killed a small pile of rats, all the rats behind them ran away, and the nearby rats followed suit.

This place is full of dead rats, it's definitely not safe to live here. Lin Xia scanned the upstairs and the surrounding area with his mental energy. Many people have been bitten. The mutation rate is so fast, a new batch of rats or rat-men will appear soon.

I wonder what choices people will make after they discover this...

Lin Xia found an empty room upstairs and slept for a few hours.

At first, it didn't stop at all, but the screams attracted wild dogs, and people covered their mouths and dared not speak again.

As soon as Lin Xia woke up, she heard the rustling of insects and the swooping of birds hunting for food outside. If she didn't know their size, it would have been quite a pleasant sound.

Standing up and looking outside, the lush greenery and harmonious surroundings made it seem as if only human-built structures were out of place in this world.

Suddenly, the once bustling forest fell silent after a period of chaos, and the wild dogs that had come out to hunt for food disappeared without a trace.

Lin Xia slung her backpack over her shoulder, quickly gulped down two vials of nutrient solution, and then drank a few mouthfuls of water.

A tiger's roar echoed, and the world fell silent. Even the howls and groans ceased. Lin Xia saw a tiger the size of a truck appear in the distance.

Lin Xia glanced at his throwing knife, doubting whether he could break through the tiger's defenses. This tiger was so huge, had it mutated into other abilities?

Is it really reasonable for something to be this huge? Surely not all animals have successfully mutated, and none of them died before completing the mutation?

This tiger seemed to have a clear goal in mind. Its screams could be heard intermittently, each one a fatal blow, with no second sound. Each strike could collapse the only remaining house.

It's a human who didn't mutate into an animal after being injured!

Lin Xia withdrew her mental energy and scanned her surroundings. She found that, including the dog-faced man, there were actually five who had not completely mutated and still had their senses.

She put on her hat and protective goggles, quietly opened the door, and silently ran towards the back of the house. The risk of injury was too great; she wanted to avoid it if possible.

No sooner had she jumped out of the window than a large peach came hurtling towards her. Lin Xia dodged, and the peach hit the half-broken glass, shattering into pieces on the floor.

The monkey cackled and started throwing peaches again. Only then did Lin Xia notice that the street behind the hotel was lined with peach trees, now laden with large, pink peaches. They were fuzzy peaches, and as soon as one was thrown, Lin Xia could see the fuzz flying everywhere.

The throwing knife flashed and pierced the monkey's stomach. It clutched its wound and screamed as it fell from the tree. Lin Xia saw many insects suddenly crawl out from somewhere and swarm towards the monkey.

Several people ran out from behind her, rushing forward without regard for anything else. Lin Xia put away her throwing knife and ran forward at top speed.

The building behind her collapsed with a crash. Lin Xia glanced at it, and it was as if a stack of building blocks had been knocked down, revealing the tiger's silhouette.

Lin Xia immediately changed direction, but to her surprise, the dog-faced man followed her all the way. What's more, he was very fast and more agile than Lin Xia in the forest.

Lin Xia couldn't move fast. Her mental energy probed ahead while she ran behind. She also had to use her throwing knife to cut off thorny plants and insects blocking her way. Seeing the dog-faced man following behind so easily, Lin Xia gritted her teeth.

A throwing knife flew to the dog-faced man in an instant. He stopped, breaking out in a cold sweat. Lin Xia gave him a cold look and ran forward.

The dog-faced man glanced anxiously behind him and shouted, "I know where the base that can withstand the mutations is!"

Lin Xia stopped in her tracks: "Where?"

The dog-faced man glanced around: "Are you sure you can find it if I tell you?"

Hearing his words, Lin Xia rolled her eyes, turned around and left, the throwing knife still in place. It was obvious that these mutated people were more hostile than normal humans. She was not incapable of protecting herself, so why should she increase the risk to herself?

The dog-faced man looked anxious, but when he saw the throwing knife parked beside him, he gritted his teeth and quickly ran in another direction.

From afar, Lin Xia saw a very long and thick tail on the ground. It was green overall with black stripes and a row of sharp spikes in the middle.

With a mental focus, Lin Xia saw a green lizard about the size of a tiger. Its body was green, and the spikes on its back looked extremely sharp. Its huge claws were gripping the ground. If it weren't for its short legs, Lin Xia would have almost thought he had seen a dinosaur.

Its green skin looked like it had high defense. Lin Xia turned around and avoided it, thinking to herself, "I was so focused on the cats and dogs in the city that I forgot that some people like to keep pets."

Lizards, turtles, parrots, pigs, hedgehogs, snakes, spiders... The thought of these pets mutating into giant forms sent shivers down Lin Xia's spine.

Think of the hard shells of turtles, the beaks of parrots, the quills of hedgehogs, snakes! Spiders!

I can't think about it, I can't think about it. I'm definitely not afraid in terms of strength, but the consequences of getting injured would be too serious!

Looking at the speed of the tiger behind him, he knew he wouldn't be at a disadvantage in a fight. But the tiger would only attack, and he would have to be careful not to get hurt, especially by watching out for plants and insects around him. It was impossible to defend against everything.

Running away is definitely easier, but sometimes, you can't just run whenever you want...
