Lu Li gently took Xiao Lu'er's hand and stroked her smooth and delicate skin as if he were touching a fragile treasure.
"Little deer, wake up! Open your eyes and wake up!" Lu Li shouted in a hoarse voice.
No matter how he called, the little deer remained motionless, as if she had fallen into a deep sleep.
"No, no!"
Large tears slid down his cheeks, and just then, Little Deer's hand moved.
Lu Li stopped abruptly, raised his head sharply, and looked at the little deer who was smiling at him.
“Brother Lu, you’re fifty years old, why are you still crying?”
Lu Li quickly wiped away his tears and said, "Nonsense, I'm not fifty years old, I'm only forty-nine!"
"Okay, I was just kidding." Little Deer gave a playful smile, then reached out to wipe away Lu Li's tears and said softly, "Don't cry, it's embarrassing for a man to cry."
"I...I didn't cry!" Lu Li quickly retorted.
Little Deer smiled gently, and after a few seconds of silence, she said, "Brother Lu, I want to go home."
The word "home" hadn't appeared in Lu Li's mind for a long time.
The home that Little Deer mentioned was the refugee village where Lu Li traveled back to the Warring States period.
Little Deer's parents are buried there, and Little Deer said a long time ago that if she ever died, she must be buried at home.
Fallen leaves return to their roots!
Lu Li suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, so intense that he could barely speak.
"Okay...I'll take you home!"
Many people were waiting outside, and they were all shocked when they heard the news.
Lu Fusheng was the first to rush in, her face full of disbelief. Little Deer had clearly reached the level of a minor grandmaster, how could this be?
When she saw Lu Fusheng burst in, Xiaolu said softly, "Brother Lu, could you please go out for a moment? I have something to say to Fusheng."
Lu Li, with red and swollen eyes, nodded and walked outside.
Lu Fusheng looked at Xiao Lu'er with indignation and asked, "What happened? Why are you...?"
Little Deer didn't answer her question, but just said to herself, "I know you like Brother Lu, but I like him too."
"However, from now on, you'll have to take care of him..."
"Although you've been taking care of him all these years, thank you, Fusheng."
Lu Fusheng choked up. She didn't know how to express her current emotions, but she felt more resentment and jealousy.
"Why? Why?!"
"Do you know that Brother Lu only feels brotherly affection for me? The person he truly loves is you!"
"Why did you appear in his life first and capture his heart completely?"
"And now they want to use this method to make him feel resentful forever? Why should they do this!"
Little Deer gave a bitter smile, then said, "Fusheng, time changes a person. After I die, I hope you can stay by his side forever. Promise me, okay?"
Lu Fusheng was unwilling to accept this. She wanted Lu Li to truly like and love her from the bottom of his heart, not just like a brother and sister.
"I can do it without you telling me!"
Both of these women deeply loved Lu Li, but neither of them took that step.
Help me up.
Lu Fusheng stepped forward and helped Xiao Lu'er up. Only then did she realize that Xiao Lu'er's body had deteriorated to the point of no return.
When the two of them came out of the room, the courtyard was already full of people.
Gai Nie, Cang Wu, Wei Zhuang, the first day of the month, the sixth day of the month, the ninth day of the month...
Lu Li turned around abruptly. Little Deer smiled palely and then said, "Brother Lu, let's go home."
"Okay, let's go home!"
Lu Li picked up the little deer, got into the carriage, and left Xianyang City amidst the farewells of the crowd.
Little Deer lifted the curtain, slowly closed her eyes, felt the whistling wind beside her ears, felt the warmth in her arms, felt... Brother Lu's breathing.
But from then on, she never saw her Brother Lu again...
"Father, Mother, wait for me, I'll be back soon..."
The carriage gradually moved further and further away until it finally turned into a small black dot and disappeared completely.
On the outskirts of Xianyang, there is a desolate and remote cemetery. The cemetery is overgrown with weeds, some of which are so tall that they cover the graves.
The little deer knelt before the grave, its arms trembling as it scooped up soil and sprinkled it on the mound, its mouth opening and closing as it murmured something.
A faint smile graced her face, as if she were speaking to her parents, her tone gentle and kind.
The two then arrived at a small hill behind the former refugee village.
The two sat on the ground, with Little Deer leaning on Lu Li's shoulder, reminiscing about the past.
The two of them sat quietly until it got dark. Lu Li stood up and said, "Little Deer, I promised you that I would let you see the most beautiful fireworks in the world."
As he spoke, he took out the fireworks he had made from the back of the carriage, though he didn't know if they would be successful this time.
Little Deer nodded happily, looking curiously at the fireworks in Lu Li's hand. They looked very peculiar; she had never seen them before.
"Wait here, I'll put it out for you right now!"
Lu Li quickly placed the fireworks ten feet away from them, then took out a tinderbox and lit the fuse.
He kept repeating to himself, "I must succeed, I must succeed!"
The fireworks were lit and burst open, their dazzling light piercing the sky and illuminating the entire night sky.
