Then, Cao Cao asked Liu Bei, "Xuande, since it is your master who has come, let us go out of the city to greet him!"
Liu Bei nodded in agreement, and the two immediately went out of the city to wait.
Two hours later, the 80,000-strong army arrived at Hulao Pass in a grand procession, led by Lu Zhi.
Liu Bei hurriedly stepped forward, knelt on the ground, cupped his hands in greeting, and said, "This unfilial disciple Liu Bei greets his master!"
Lu Zhi was taken aback, then asked incredulously, "Are you Xuande?"
“Master! It is your disciple!” Liu Bei said respectfully.
"Oh my, I didn't expect you to be at Hulao Pass, Xuande. That's quite a surprise to your master!" Lu Zhi stroked his beard and said with a smile.
In Lu Zhi's mind, Liu Bei could only be considered half a disciple, simply because Liu Bei was less qualified and had mediocre talent.
"I am Cao Cao, Cao Mengde, greetings to Lu Shi!" Cao Cao stepped forward and bowed.
Lu Zhi waved his hand and said, "Mengde, you may dispense with the formalities. Mengde has fought for the country and made great contributions!"
Cao Cao humbly replied, "I dare not accept such praise!"
"This is not the place to talk. Please enter the city!"
