The next day.
Jiang Wei left Guigu and went to Yizhou alone.
Before leaving, Jiang Wei found Lu Li and bowed to him in farewell.
"The journey is long, so please be careful in everything you do!" Lu Li advised.
Jiang Wei nodded emphatically and said, "Master, rest assured, your disciple will act with caution!"
After saying that, he turned and left Guigu.
Lu Li watched his disappearing figure and sighed.
Jiang Wei ultimately embarked on this path, and Lu Li did not stop him, because it was his own choice!
Shu Kingdom, Chengdu!
It is bustling and lively, with a constant flow of traffic, yet it exudes an ancient atmosphere that seems to have stood the test of time!
Jiang Wei passed through the city wall and walked onto the street.
"This Shu Kingdom is indeed extraordinary!" Jiang Wei thought to himself in amazement.
Under Zhuge Liang's rule, the people of Shu lived in peace and contentment, each fulfilling their duties, and there were no riots or other disturbances.
"Sichuan is rich in grain and gold and iron, and the country is wealthy. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, the road to Sichuan is difficult, more difficult than ascending to heaven. It is difficult to conquer the Central Plains and establish merit by relying on the defense of the passes!"
Jiang Wei joined the army and, after a series of tests, was directly promoted to centurion.
Jiang Wei was not satisfied, but promotion in the army required military merits; without them, it was almost impossible to get promoted.
Jiang Wei spent three days in the army, observing the combat methods of the Shu soldiers and gathering intelligence about Shu to understand its strength.
After three days, I had gained a fairly deep understanding of the Shu Kingdom.
Jiang Wei discovered that while the individual combat strength of Shu soldiers was very strong, they were much weaker as a whole, especially compared to Wei soldiers.
He was a centurion, commanding a hundred men, and he wanted to train them to be like the elite Trapped Battalion of yesteryear!
The reputation of the Trapped Camp is immense. Back then, with only seven hundred men, they were able to unleash the strength of ten thousand, making countless people wary and even fearful!
The current Shu Kingdom is not even one-tenth the size of the original Trapped Camp.
"If we train them like the Trapped Camp, we might be able to recapture their former glory!"
Just as he was lost in thought, a commotion suddenly broke out among his hundred men. A group of cavalrymen, dressed in armor and riding fine horses, fought against three men and were not at a disadvantage at all!
"Look, doesn't that look like Zhang Bao, the son of General Zhang Fei?"
"Really?"
"Absolutely true!"
After Zhang Fei's death, Zhang Bao rose through the ranks and was appointed a general. Moreover, Zhang Bao was highly skilled in martial arts and brave in battle, earning him a great reputation in the army.
Jiang Wei narrowed his eyes, watching Zhang Bao charge and break through the enemy lines.
"This man is not bad; he has not tarnished Zhang Fei's reputation," Jiang Wei muttered to himself.
Just then, a young man about the same age as Jiang Wei, wielding a long spear, actually knocked Zhang Bao off his horse. Everyone present was stunned and began to discuss among themselves.
"Who are you? What superb marksmanship!" Zhang Bao was knocked off his horse, his face bruised and swollen, but he still gritted his teeth and questioned.
"My name is Chen Dao!" the man replied calmly.
"Fine! Very well!" Zhang Bao sneered, "Although I, Zhang Bao, am not a top-tier general in Shu, I am not someone that can be humiliated by just any Tom, Dick, or Harry! If you have the guts, let's fight, life or death!"
Chen Dao frowned slightly, then said, "I'd be happy to oblige!"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Bao laughed heartily and exclaimed, "That's great!"
After saying that, he mounted his horse and sat down facing Chen Dao.
Immediately afterwards, Zhang Bao swung his eighteen-foot spear toward Chen Dao with incredible speed!
Seeing this, Chen Dao's eyes narrowed, and he gripped his spear to block. The two spears collided, sparks flying, and the deafening clang made the surrounding crowd tremble.
Zhang Bao shouted and thrust out his eighteen-foot spear with all his might, trying to force Chen Dao to retreat. But as soon as he made a move, Chen Dao's counterattack came again!
"Bang!" Zhang Bao was struck in the chest by a fierce tiger tail whip kick, and he immediately coughed up blood and flew backward, crashing heavily ten meters away!
A commotion erupted around them. Everyone looked at Zhang Bao's disheveled appearance with pity and compassion.
“General Zhang Bao…” A soldier stepped forward to help him up.
However, Zhang Bao pushed him away, struggled to his feet, his arms trembling, and pointed at Chen Dao, saying, "Again!"
Chen Dao glanced at him coldly and continued to thrust his spear at him!
Pfft!
Zhang Bao was shot in the shoulder again, the wound ripped open, blood gushed out, staining his clothes red, which made the people around him feel heartbroken.
Zhang Bao roared and brandished his eighteen-foot spear, thrusting it out with all his might!
This was a deadly move, executed from a tricky and unpredictable angle, catching the opponent completely off guard!
This time, Zhang Bao seemed to have the upper hand. A cold smile played on his lips, as if he could already see his victory.
Just as the eighteen-foot spear was about to pierce Chen Dao's body, there was a clang, and Chen Dao's spear blocked the eighteen-foot spear.
"How is that possible!"
Zhang Bao was stunned for a moment, then felt a tremendous force coming from his arm, making it impossible for him to hold the eighteen-foot spear steady.
The next moment, Chen Dao grabbed the spear and pulled hard, dragging Zhang Bao off his horse.
He collapsed to the ground, his face deathly pale, his lips trembling. After a long while, he managed to choke out a single sentence, "I lost!"
"From this day forward, you shall be a centurion!"
Jiang Wei watched this unfold, and suddenly an idea struck him: defeating Zhang Bao could make him a centurion? He could do it too!
So Jiang Wei rode out and asked Zhang Bao, "General Zhang, if I defeat you, will I become a commander of a thousand men?"
