Chapter 9 Turbulent Times

Sword Eleven, as the name suggests, is a sword technique with only eleven moves. The moves are exquisite and each one contains terrifying killing intent.

"Senior Brother Jian Chen, can this sword technique be taught to others?" Lu Li asked.

Jian Chen was taken aback for a moment, then thought for a moment and said, "It's not a particularly earth-shattering sword technique. If you want to learn it, Junior Brother, I'm willing to teach you everything I know."

Lu Li naturally wanted to learn, but the most important thing was that he needed to establish the Black Ice Platform and adopt some orphans.

Because these moves of Sword Eleven are perfect for assassination, each move is ruthless and deadly. Although there are only eleven moves, they are ever-changing.

"Thank you, senior brother, but I need you to teach others."

Jian Chen looked at Lu Li with some confusion, wondering who to teach, since Lu Li already had Cang Wu by his side, and that little deer also looked quite extraordinary.

"How about I go on a long trip with you in a few days, Senior Brother?" Lu Li asked with a smile.

Jian Chen immediately nodded. That was just his personality. Even if he didn't know what Lu Li wanted to do, he was loyal to Gui Guzi, and Lu Li was someone Gui Guzi approved of, so he would listen to Lu Li.

"Thank you, senior brother."

Jian Chen bowed and withdrew. Today's battle with Cangwu had brought him a new breakthrough, and he needed to find a quiet place to reflect on it.

Five days later, Lu Li found Jian Chen and went with him to select thirteen orphans with good potential and teach them martial arts.

In this turbulent era, refugees were everywhere, and slums were filled with them.

They often can't even get enough to eat and have to eat tree bark to fill their stomachs.

When Lu Li and his group arrived, they were immediately surrounded by a group of people.

"Grandpa, please have mercy and give me some food."

Such sounds were everywhere, and even Lu Li found it hard to bear.

This further strengthened his resolve to help Ying Zheng unify the world and end this era of war.

Lu Li glanced at Jian Chen beside him, and Jian Chen nodded before going to choose a child.

Just then, Lu Li felt someone tugging at his trouser leg. He looked down and saw a dirty little child.

He looked to be only six or seven years old.

"Sir...my mother is dying, could you please give me some food?"

"I can serve you like a slave to repay your kindness!"

Lu Li's heart clenched immediately. Judging from the voice, it sounded like a little girl, who was only six or seven years old.

Lu Li picked up the emaciated little girl; she was very light, lighter than a knife.

A wave of pity washed over him. Six or seven-year-old children, acting like this—what kind of era was this?

"What's your name? How old are you?"

The little girl was a bit timid, and murmured, "I don't have a name. My mother calls me Siwa. I'm twelve years old."

Lu Li choked up a little. In this era of war, they didn't even have names.

At twelve years old, he looks only six or seven; this is a serious case of developmental delay.

In those turbulent times, even a full meal was a luxury for them.

Lu Li took out a chestnut cake from his pocket and handed it to the little girl, saying, "Come on, take me to see your mother."

Siwa led Lu Li to a straw mat, where an old woman lay on the verge of death.

She ran quickly to the old woman and whispered, "Mom, there's food. Eat quickly."

Lu Li saw the old woman slowly open her eyes and said softly, "Mother doesn't want to eat, you eat."

The surrounding refugees were already eyeing him covetously; if Jian Chen hadn't been nearby, they probably would have swarmed him long ago.

"Mother, this is from this older brother for Fourth Brother. Mother, please eat it quickly."

Upon hearing Siwa's words, the old woman finally noticed Lu Li.

She tried to get up, but she had no strength left in her body.

"My benefactor! Thank you, thank you!"

Lu Li was at a loss for words. He was born into a privileged family and had never experienced the hardships of life.

"Fourth Brother! Kneel...kneel down before your benefactor!"

The fourth child was startled and immediately knelt on the ground.

Suddenly, the old woman seemed to utter a sentence with all her might.

"My benefactor, please take Siwa as your servant. Just give her something to eat so she can survive."

Upon hearing his mother's words, Siwa burst into tears and crawled on his knees to the old woman, saying, "Mother, I don't want to leave you!"

"Mother! I can dig up wild vegetables and find medicinal herbs. I will definitely heal you!"

Hearing Siwa's words, Lu Li's eyes also reddened.

In this era, seeing a doctor and taking medicine is a luxury. For ordinary people, even a common cold can be fatal.

The old woman in front of us was terminally ill and beyond saving; death was only a matter of time.

Lu Li couldn't save her, nor was he able to. There were too many people like the old woman here. How many could he possibly save by himself?

"Okay, I will take her with me. As long as I live, she will have something to eat."

Hearing Lu Li's words, the old woman seemed relieved, forcing a smile, but she no longer had the strength to speak.

Siwa cried and shook the old woman, trying to get her to open her eyes and see.

But the old woman was barely clinging to life. Lu Li couldn't bear to watch any longer, so he picked up the four children and turned to leave.

Siwa desperately pounded on Lu Li, trying to break free, but Lu Li said in a deep voice, "Siwa! Your mother's greatest wish is for you to live!"

"Follow me! I'll let you live!"

Lu Li's words struck Siwa's heart like a heavy hammer.
