They walked back to the same intersection. The light turned red, and the two stopped.
"Aren't you going home?" Li Lechen suddenly turned around and asked.
Zhou Mi was looking down at her feet, her mind filled with the faint yet overwhelming smell of chocolate cake emanating from Li Lechen, who was walking ahead of her. Hearing the question, she abruptly looked up.
Their eyes met, and both of them were startled.
"What are you doing?" Li Lechen asked, his lips twitching.
He felt that Zhou Mi was acting a little strange today. Could it be that she had become hopelessly infatuated with him because he had suddenly shown that kind of physical talent?
It's important to know that most female high-achieving students' views on love are directly linked to their academic performance. Academic performance can make up for shortcomings in figure, appearance, and everything else, as long as their grades are good.
Moreover, I already had a lot of advantages, except for my poor academic performance in the past.
Cough cough!
As clever as Zhou Mi was, she quickly noticed Li Lechen's strange look and took a step back in disgust, teasingly asking, "Why aren't you wearing those glasses anymore?"
Upon hearing this, Li Lechen casually took out his glasses from his pocket, put them on, and nodded seriously: "I didn't expect you to have such good taste. I'll satisfy you."
"Yes, I really think these glasses suit you very well."
Having won the argument, Zhou Mi proudly shook her head.
"You're a girl, it's past dinner time, shouldn't you be going home?" Li Lechen could only try to reason with her. "By the way, are there still any buses to Leishi Village?"
"It's gone."
"Gone?! How are you going to get back?"
"It's none of your business!"
"Hey! You came to my house looking for me, and now you can't go back. If I don't take care of you, who will? There are so many human traffickers these days. Even though you're not that good-looking, you'd still be in high demand if you were sold to some remote mountain village to be a bachelor's wife." Li Lechen was genuinely a little panicked. Firstly, he was really worried about Zhou Mi going back so late at night, and secondly, he was afraid she would stay overnight; he really had no experience hosting girls who stayed overnight.
Fortunately, Zhou Mi's phone rang just as she finished speaking.
"Hello, Uncle." "Okay, I'm near Jiahe District." "I don't need to buy anything." "Oh, do you want to talk to your cousin? He's right next to me."
I'm most afraid of being called on suddenly, both in class and in life.
Li Lechen was completely unprepared and could only awkwardly greet the caller, "Second Uncle, have you eaten? Zhou Mi and I have already eaten." "No trouble at all, no trouble at all. She just asked me a few physics questions. We did some problems at home for quite a while, then came out for noodles and are on our way back now..." "Hello? Hello?"
Okay, the call was disconnected.
Li Lechen was telling the truth, but his second uncle couldn't stand it anymore. Zhou Mi had clearly come to give Li Lechen his summer homework to copy, but instead, she was being shamelessly accused of coming to ask him questions. Although Zhou Mi wasn't his biological daughter, her good grades and the possibility of her getting into Tsinghua or Peking University would be a source of pride for him. That would definitely bring him more direct benefits than Li Lechen's success.
It was just a polite formality, so there's no need for further formalities. Let's just leave it at that.
Li Lechen wasn't annoyed; after all, what he said was true, and Zhou Mi knew it herself.
The two then found themselves in a state where one was walking quickly ahead and the other was trying to keep up, and they remained silent the whole way.
Across the intersection, a man wearing a baseball cap was wandering around like searching for a needle in a haystack, but unexpectedly, when he turned around, he struck it lucky.
A man and a woman. The man looked like a student, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, tall and thin. His features were unremarkable, just an average person, but his black-rimmed glasses were very eye-catching.
It's almost certainly him!
I just don't understand how that bag of diamonds ended up in his hands. Did he find it too?
Never mind all that, just keep up.
So, when Li Lechen and the others left, the man in the baseball cap quietly followed them.
Li Lechen and Zhou Mi naturally didn't feel anything. There were many people walking on the street. They weren't rich, so they weren't afraid of being kidnapped, nor were they beautiful women, so they weren't worried about being followed.
"classmate!"
As Li Lechen was walking, he suddenly heard a voice behind him.
They heard someone calling their classmate, and both he and Zhou Mi instinctively turned around. They were met by a short, unfamiliar man dressed in black, wearing a baseball cap.
"Excuse me." The man quickly stepped forward.
"Are you calling me?" Li Lechen asked, puzzled.
"Your pants have been slashed; something might have been stolen," the man warned.
"Oh~~" Li Lechen said frankly, "I accidentally broke it myself, thank you."
"Hmm." The man in the baseball cap gave an awkward twitch of his lips, then quickly overtook the two men and disappeared at an intersection ahead in the blink of an eye.
Li Lechen helplessly reached into his pocket, his index and middle fingers barely peeking out from the cut hole, and moved them slightly.
It wasn't a deliberate lie; I just didn't want to cause any unnecessary trouble.
Suddenly, Li Lechen abruptly pulled his hand out of his pocket again, held his index finger up to his eyes, and examined it carefully.
Feeling puzzled, I switched to my right index finger and looked at it as well.
I remember the scar was on the side of my left index finger, but now the side of my left index finger is smooth and flat, and doesn't look like it has been injured at all.
Crucially, there are no scars on his right index finger either.
What about the scar?!
Could it be...?
