"Your Majesty's compassion is deeply appreciated by this old minister!" Gu Hui expressed his loyalty with tears of gratitude.
Lu Xingjian was very satisfied with Gu Hui's pragmatism.
With the Gu family's statement and the Xuanfu border storage investigation, it's unlikely that such a terrible situation as the burning of the stables will occur again.
He turned his gaze to Gu Ziyu, who had remained silent.
"Ziyu is not young anymore, it's time for him to settle down. Is there anyone you'd like to marry?"
Gu Ziyu simply said, "I am ashamed that Your Majesty has been so concerned."
Lu Xingjian smiled faintly: "Since you are not destined to be with the fourth young lady of the Zhenyuan Marquis's mansion, I would like to act as a matchmaker."
"I have heard that the daughter of Wen Gong, the General of Datong, is good at military strategy and skilled in riding and archery. She should be able to get along with Ziyu."
Gu Ziyu paused for a moment, lowered his eyes, and replied in a clear voice:
"This humble servant will obey His Majesty's decree."
Su Wanwan is already married, and to the emperor no less.
He has absolutely no chance of marrying her.
Getting married sooner would not only reassure the emperor, but also dispel the malicious rumors of the past.
Standing beside the imperial desk, Su Wanwan clenched her hands and pursed her lips tightly.
Isn't Lu Xingjian afraid of ruining Gu Ziyu's lifelong happiness by arranging this marriage?!
Or is it that, in men's eyes, mutual affection is the least important thing, while family interests and power alliances are more important?
Lu Xingjian was quite satisfied with Gu Ziyu's compliance and said reasonably:
"This matter is not urgent. Let's wait until the Gu family is satisfied with the proposal before I issue an edict to grant you marriage."
Gu Hui understood that the emperor was just being polite.
The border troops in Datong are unstable and are watching the progress of the border reserve verification in Xuanfu.
The marriage alliance between the Gu family and the Wen Gong family, the general of Datong, was merely a way to reassure Wen Gong and prevent the Datong border troops from causing trouble.
"The Gu family will obey the Emperor's orders," Gu Hui reiterated.
"Very well, I will have the Empress arrange a flower viewing party so that Miss Wen and Ziyu can meet, and then we can discuss the matter of bestowing a marriage upon them."
Lu Xingjian smiled and made the final decision.
From beginning to end, Gu Ziyu never once looked at Su Wanwan.
He never expected that after confronting the Grand Princess Chun'an and her husband at the Su family's gate, he would never have the chance to see Su Wanwan again.
If the emperor really wanted to deal with his rival in love, he had plenty of ways to do so.
They just haven't done anything to him because of the Gu family's power and status.
Now that everything has settled and the emperor has won the heart of his beloved, he has completely given up hope.
Not disturbing or bothering her is the best blessing he can give her.
After Gu Hui and Gu Ziyu left, Lu Xingjian and Su Wanwan also slowly walked towards Kunning Palace.
Su Wanwan frowned and asked, "Does the Wen family agree to this marriage?"
Gu Ziyu usually has a very good temper, but when she gets angry, she can be deadly.
If a marriage is arranged haphazardly, resulting in a unhappy couple, it may have the opposite effect.
The lesson learned from the Zhenyuan Marquis's mansion is still fresh in our minds.
Lu Xingjian glanced at her indifferently: "You seem quite concerned."
Su Wanwan felt as if she had been pricked by a thorn.
He insisted on dragging her over, and he asked her to arrange a flower viewing party so that Miss Wen could meet Gu Ziyu.
Now, it's her who's preoccupied with this matter.
She felt a little uncomfortable, but just smiled:
"I was assigned a job as soon as I got married, so naturally I dare not be careless."
"I've never seen you so enthusiastic about other things," Lu Xingjian said without any emotion.
He even took care of their marriage.
She didn't even take being a bride seriously.
If he hadn't personally visited the Su family yesterday, she might not have gotten out of bed and refused to dress up for her wedding.
Su Wanwan paused, feeling a tightness in her chest.
"You want to marry Maggie, but you insist on using me as a scapegoat. Do you expect me to happily prepare a dowry for you?"
Lu Xingjian glanced at her lightly, speaking coldly.
"Who has been forcing me to retract the imperial edict?"
"Will you stop now that I'm not going to marry her?"
Su Wanwan pursed her lips and didn't say anything more.
She did mention twice that he should rescind the imperial decree granting them the marriage.
But if he hadn't given Ma Ji the lantern, would she have asked him to retract the imperial decree?
If they are truly wrong, they are half right and half wrong.
Big brother, don't laugh at second brother.
Su Wanwan paused when she reached the Qianqing Palace.
Seeing that he was still heading towards Kunning Palace, I breathed a slight sigh of relief.
If he doesn't spend the night in Kunning Palace on the second day of their marriage, everyone in the palace will probably know that she, the new empress, is not to the emperor's liking.
Life will likely be much harder.
Lu Xingjian, however, felt that her silence was an admission.
After the two returned to the East Warm Pavilion of Kunning Palace, he spoke again, his tone cold and sarcastic:
"Only I can tolerate your temper. If other people knew you were like this, how could they live with you?"
It was all disdain.
Su Wanwan was furious and turned completely cold.
"If you look down on me so much, why did you marry me in the first place?"
“Woman Ma Ji, Yan Ruo, and Wan Xiu are all younger and prettier than me. Why don’t you marry any of them?”
Lu Xingjian gave a cold laugh, his tone growing increasingly icy.
"If I hadn't promised my grandmother, would I have had to put up with this?"
Su Wanwan frowned: "It's her who made you suffer."
"You're welcome to go find someone gentle and kind. I won't get in your way. You can do whatever makes you happy."
“They are young, beautiful, gentle and kind,” Lu Xingjian’s face turned completely cold as he pulled her in front of him.
A cool glint appeared in his deep, dark eyes.
"But you are the wife I married through proper channels, why would I look for someone else?"
After saying that, he pinched her face and kissed her.
